ActionScript 3.0 :: No Script In File But Throwing Ten Time Errors

Jul 8, 2009

I'm having a nightmare - always at the last minute of the project Flash craps out...

I have stripped all the actionscript from the file, but the animated sprites cause the following error throughout the timeline (about 5/6 times) [url]...

I changed two main elements to buttons, then back to movie clips via the library panel and the properties window. Could this 'break' the objects?

Flex :: Asdoc Throwing Errors For MXML Component That Includes A Separate .as File?

Jul 27, 2010

I have an MXML component that includes a .as file with

<fx:Script source="myfile.as" />

Running asdoc throws a whole bunch of errors like

"Error: The private attribute may be used only on class property definitions."
"Error: The public attribute can only be used inside a package."

Solution 1 is to move the AS code into the MXML file. Kind of defeats the objective of using external .as files for MXML components in the first place, so really a last resort option. Code inside a mxml file is messy (I really don't want logic mixed in with mxml), and would also require using the < !--- ---> asdoc syntax.

Solution 2 is to have the MXML component inherit from a normal class file. That would mean no private members in the base class, only internal (meaning a separate package for the component to be safe) or protected. This would make things tedious to say the least.

Are there any other work-arounds or possibly a beta/nightly version of asdoc that fixes the problem? I am using the Flex 4.1.0.16076 SDK, the "latest production quality release".

Update:Just tried using asdoc from the svn trunk, (4.5.0 rev. 16942) and the problem persists.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Run Time Errors 1046 : Type Was Not Found Or Was Not A Compile-time Constant?

May 5, 2010

Both of these are saved in files with the name same as the classes.

Both are saved a folder which also contains an fla file name hello.fla.So,when test the movie(hello.fla),after choosing the document class as WavyBall,I get these errors: 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: Ball.

Flash :: Debug Run Time Errors In Released Flex App

Feb 10, 2012

There doesn't seem to be a way to access stack traces for a released version of a Flex app running on a generic user's non-debugger version of flash. I can still get access to the error number, but that's just not good enough in some cases.

Was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to approach this. All I can think of is logging as many events as possible in some buffer and then dumping that to the server when a crash happens. I've implemented this and it's ok but, unfortunately, adding logging all over the place doesn't seem very practical if your code base is reasonably extensive. But maybe there's a catch all way to log all sorts of stuff in some simple way that I have not thought of - some sort of centralized listener? Or maybe some other approach?

Will take any advice (although ideally skip the "you should test your app before you release it"?).

ActionScript 2.0 :: Restricting Warnings And Errors Displayed At The Compile Time?

May 13, 2010

Those who had started with AS2.0, mostly complain about AS3.0's restricting warnings and errors displayed at the compile time. Which was almost too weak ( and made to feel breeze ) in AS2.0 .However, recently, i was undergoing a hell time debugging, that made me realise how AS2.0 makes a slip, because of weak compilation.

Code:
class MyClass
{
var abc:Number ;[code].....

in the above trace statement, one would always get undefined ( but no compile time error ) even when i am trying to call getAbc() which is actually a private function.

IDE :: Craps Game - Get A Lot Of Time Constant Errors And Unexpected Else Statements?

Jan 16, 2010

i'm trying to make a craps game in flash.The program starts with a login screen which takes you to a menu, then you get the choice of 3 games. I'm on my second game so far which i'm having trouble with.So far i've managed to get 2 spinners with numbers 1-6 on each, which will spin, give you the values in 2 separate text boxes then add the value together in another text box.The trouble i am having is the winning and lossing condions, where i have no idea where to start.

Rulse are if your value equals 7 or 11 you win

if your value equals 2,3 or 12, yoo lose and

if your value is anothing else then user gets another go and has to get the same value again or get a 7 and lose.

Heres code so far:

import fl.transitions.Tween;
import fl.transitions.TweenEvent;[code]....

i need to create another function or create if statements within existing functions.I tried creating another function afte the bottom function but got a lot of time constant errors and unexpected else statements whihc i didn't understand.

ActionScript 3.0 :: ClassPath Errors On Compiling Main FLA File

Oct 13, 2010

The company I work for outsourced the development of a flash project which I have now taken over. We had a handover from the developer and all was working well. However, I have moved all files onto a new machine and now I get several errors when I compile. The project is set up as follows (this isn't all the folders):
mainFolder
mainFolder-in
mainFoldersrcfolderB
mainFoldersrccases
mainFoldersrccontainerMain.fla (and Main.as)

When I compile Main.fla (all fla's are set to compile to the bin folder) I get the error -
1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: PageEvent.
Which refers to this line in the class -
protected function pageEventHandler(e:PageEvent):void

PageEvent is a class that is found in the folderB directory - mainFoldersrcfolderBevents
It is imported into the Main class -
import folderB.events.PageEvent;
3 errors appear, all the same for the 3 times the var e:PageEvent is referenced.
It seems that the main.fla/.as cannot find PageEvent class.

Another example is this:
In the directory mainFoldersrccases is a class Case1.as/fla
this class extends CaseSpaceCore which is found here - folderB.pages.cases.spaces.CaseSpaceCore; and is imported into Case1.as
When I try to compile I get the error -
1017: The definition of base class CaseSpaceCore was not found.
and then other errors about overridden methods that is cant find because it cant find the base class.

I am using Flashdevelop (if that makes a difference) as did the developer. I have tried adding the class path in the project settings to srcfolderB but this made no difference.

Actionscript 3 :: Get File Name And Line Number For Warnings And Errors On Vizzy Flash Tracer?

Jul 6, 2011

What's the simplest way to see where warnings and errors come from, on vizzy?

Here's a few instances I see on my mac. Quite different from the screenshots we can see on its wiki:

Warning: 'flash' has no property 'prototype'
Warning: 'StageVideo' has no property 'prototype'
Warning: 'AsBroadcaster' has no property 'addListener'
Warning: 'AsBroadcaster' has no property 'removeListener'
Warning: 'flash' has no property 'prototype'

[Code]...

I can now see VizzyTrace.swc is required for many vizzy functionality. But even after considering all that (and enabling debug flag on the FLA, replacing trace for trc, setting up the "extra options" and adding the SWC) I still see nothing.

Now every trc line is prepended with an almost useless (I can control traces just all right and easily induce where they came from) file name and line number under Flash Professional's own output when I "Test Movie" but not even then will Vizzy show those lines. Not to say after the SWF is compiled and I'm tracing on the browser.

Actionscript 3.0 :: Errors (#1009) Cannot Access A Property Or Method Of A Null Object Reference While Navigating Through Tested File

Aug 4, 2009

I am new to flash. I am experiencing random (at least to me) errors (#1009) while navigating through my tested file. I can't reproduce them everytime. It only happens sometimes. Usually they occur after I have clicked back and forth between different pages (frames). Sometimes the error shows up once, and the file moves on as if nothing bad has happened. Sometimes the error continuosly displays, which really slows down the test. One example of such: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at About28_fla::MainTimeline/clickResumeFromAbout()
