Flash :: Debug Run Time Errors In Released Flex App
Feb 10, 2012
There doesn't seem to be a way to access stack traces for a released version of a Flex app running on a generic user's non-debugger version of flash. I can still get access to the error number, but that's just not good enough in some cases.
Was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to approach this. All I can think of is logging as many events as possible in some buffer and then dumping that to the server when a crash happens. I've implemented this and it's ok but, unfortunately, adding logging all over the place doesn't seem very practical if your code base is reasonably extensive. But maybe there's a catch all way to log all sorts of stuff in some simple way that I have not thought of - some sort of centralized listener? Or maybe some other approach?
Will take any advice (although ideally skip the "you should test your app before you release it"?).
I have firefox 3.6.15 with flash debug version 10.3. whenever an error occurs a popups comes up with the error and a stack trace but it does not line numbers of each leaf in the stack trace which makes it more difficult to debug. how to configure it to actually show line numbers ?
I think it may relate to how I compile my flash application. (i think!) i use eclipse FDT 4.2 to compile and i added the following compiler flags: -debug=true -compiler.verbose-stacktraces i think these parameters should be enough but I may be wrong.
I am trying to debug application which fails on me silently online. I am a 100% certain that I am running the flash debug player. To even make sure I am not losing it, i throw an Error ON PURPOSE. But flash shows not a single stracktrace in the browsers. I am kind of close of losing it. Any clues ? I am trying this on chrome, and firefox. WTH? Compiling with FDT, debug mode, even set the compiler argument debug=true. This is normally not the case.
Is there a way where I can save and debug a file in flash cs3 with combo keystrokes?I'm running cs3 on a windows computer and I usually do ctrl+s to save and then do ctrl+shift+enter to debug... and I was just wondering if I can combine these 2 actions with one combination of keystrokes.
Both of these are saved in files with the name same as the classes.
Both are saved a folder which also contains an fla file name hello.fla.So,when test the movie(hello.fla),after choosing the document class as WavyBall,I get these errors: 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: Ball.
Source: var Ball:Ball; 1120: Access of undefined property stage. Source:Ball.x=stage.stageWidth/2; 1120: Access of undefined property stage. Source:Ball.y=stage.stageHeight/2; 5000: The class 'WavyBall' must subclass 'flash.display.MovieClip' since it is linked to a library symbol of that type. What is wrong?
I have a swf that I need to attach the flex builder debugger to. I have full access to the source code, and can make a debug build of this swf.
However, this swf is being loaded by a non-debug build of another swf which I don't have source code to, and can't make a debug build with.
I've tried mocking this up with two very simple swfs, and while it works fine when both are debug builds, when the outer swf is a non-debug build, while I can get the debugger to connect, I don't get trace messages, breakpoints don't work, and it seems to lock up the flash app.
I have a Flex 4 application which connects to ASP.NET webservice based on FluorineFx. It is authenticated by cookies via RemoteObject.setCreadentials()
Both applications connect to FMS server and talks to each other via RTMFP direct connection (P2P).
I want to debug both instances of this application in Firefox and Internet Explorer at one time by single click (F11).
Now I can debug only in one browser by running Debug in Flash Builder 4. I have created double browser runner with bat file registered as default browser in Preferences > General > Web browser that looks like this:
I've been working in Flash BUilder 4.0. I installed Flash Builder 4.5, and switched to the workspace I had used for 4.0. Then we were told to go back to 4.0, and now I can't run or debug. I can build, but then I have to double click on the .html file to run. Right clicking doesn't bring up run or debug, and the run and debug icons are not in my toolbar.
The company I am working for has a flash component (using flex and cs4) that crashes intermittently in chrome, FF and IE. (so far only win32 platforms)
I submitted a bug report to Adobe but have not heard anything back from them. Their support process seems like a black hole. WE can get a dump from Flash using these steps but after submitting the bug we got no help at all.
We loaded this into MS visual studio but can;t get decent stack information because there are no symbols for the flash stuff.
Microsoft and other companies provide symbols to help with debugging and we would like to get that from adobe. Is there any way to make progress on this?
Does anyone know where to get flash symbols or how else we can make progress?
It is hard to debug the process if the container just dies.
the binary is flash10c.ocx
I just spent a painful hour on the phone with adobe folks - and the final answer from one of them (I spoke to about 8 people) was that they do not have a per incident purchase plan for developer support for flash.
I have this very strange problem on a big flex app where it would run fine with the debug swf if the user has debug flash installed but will have some disparities for people with standard version of flash. These disparities include:No pop upsloose all event catchingWeird positioning of a buttonI read somewhere that updatedisplaylist was handled differently ?For now i will try the export release way instead of the bin-debug swf, and to go back in the commits to see what was the turning point.
I am debugging both a flash cs4 project and a flash builder project, actually the flash builder project will load the flash cs4 project thru swfloader, but the system can only support one debugger at a time. So I am seeking a method to debug it simultaneously...
My project is open - I see the expanded sub-folders. There are not compile errors showing up. Under the project's properties I see Run/Debug Settings but the New button is greyed out.
Recently, when I tried to show the results of my work (some Flex app) to my boss, i was quite suprised that application which run perfectly well on my pc, on my boss' pc wasn't displayed properly (the only thing visible was a default grey background). After 3h of trying absolutely everything, finally the app showed up when I changed his Flash Player version from standard one to debug (both was v. 10.0.22.87). Does anyone know what can be the reason of this (any compiler flag or sth). Forcing my boss to installing debug FP was quite ok, but forcing final user of the app to do so is unacceptable.
PS: By showing I mean deploying to Tomcat on my pc and giving my boss a link to the app. We both use Win XP. Also when I installed debug FP for Netscape browsers and standard FP for IE (on my pc) the result is the same - working in Firefox, Opera, Chrome and grey background in IE. I've compiled both as a Debug and as a Release. I'm using Flash Develop 3.0.2 RTM After stripping my app to sth like this - it still works only in debug FP
I have an html file which I want to use every time I debug my flex application. I don't want an new html file to be generated every time. How can I do this?
I am having some weird trouble with getting my Flex Builder 4.5 environment set up and working. I am currently debugging with the stand alone version of the debugger, though I have the same problem using the versions for Firefox and/or Chrome. It works fine as long as I do not include any break points, if I do include break points (anywhere in the code) the debugger just goes unresponsive until I terminate the process from FB.
I'm having a nightmare - always at the last minute of the project Flash craps out...
I have stripped all the actionscript from the file, but the animated sprites cause the following error throughout the timeline (about 5/6 times) [url]...
I changed two main elements to buttons, then back to movie clips via the library panel and the properties window. Could this 'break' the objects?
Is it at all possible to connect the Flash Player debug version to the debugger in Flex Builder using source code? I'm running an app which has no right click menu, and I therefore can't right click and select connect to debugger.
I heard somewhere that the introduction of CS4 released some new AS3 features that Flash CS3 didn't have. I haven't been interested in learning what they were until now. Is this some mistake on my part or did they really release new features?
In my flex 3.5 project, I have a class (MyItem) extending Canvas. In this I have declared a private variable named itemInfo which is type of ItemInfo (which is another subclass of Canvas).
I wrote code to hide/show the iteminfo when the mouse is over/out of MyItem. I am not getting any error but it is not showing the itemInfo as expected, when debugged the code, surprisingly the variables tab in debug window does not have the variable itemInfo at all.
I have declared a dummy:int variable and it is also not visible.
Those who had started with AS2.0, mostly complain about AS3.0's restricting warnings and errors displayed at the compile time. Which was almost too weak ( and made to feel breeze ) in AS2.0 .However, recently, i was undergoing a hell time debugging, that made me realise how AS2.0 makes a slip, because of weak compilation.
Code: class MyClass { var abc:Number ;[code].....
in the above trace statement, one would always get undefined ( but no compile time error ) even when i am trying to call getAbc() which is actually a private function.
i'm trying to make a craps game in flash. The program starts with a login screen which takes you to a menu, then you get the choice of 3 games. I'm on my second game so far which i'm having trouble with.So far i've managed to get 2 spinners with numbers 1-6 on each, which will spin, give you the values in 2 separate text boxes then add the value together in another text box.The trouble i am having is the winning and lossing condions, where i have no idea where to start.
Rulse are if your value equals 7 or 11 you win
if your value equals 2,3 or 12, yoo lose and
if your value is anothing else then user gets another go and has to get the same value again or get a 7 and lose.
i need to create another function or create if statements within existing functions.I tried creating another function afte the bottom function but got a lot of time constant errors and unexpected else statements whihc i didn't understand.
what changes I make to my source, compiling alway yields either a transcoding error, or a missing definition. The stack overflow link I always put in all my source, to look at for encouragement every time I feel like banging my head against the keyboard.
// Main.as package { // General imports
[code]...
Currently when I try to compile I get the following error...
C:Documents and SettingsGekoDesktopFlash estclientsrcMain.as(6): col: 31 Error: Definition com.bit101.components:Label could not be found.
and if I remove the comment from "var myLabel" or "addChild lines" in Main.as, then I get..
C:Documents and SettingsGekoDesktopFlash estclientlibMinimalComps_0_9_5_srccomit101componentsComponent.as(51): col: 4: Error: transcoding parameter 'embedAsCFF' is not supported by 'flex2.compiler.media.FontTranscoder' C:Documents and SettingsGekoDesktopFlash estclientlibMinimalComps_0_9_5_srccomit101componentsComponent.as(51): col: 4: Error: Unable to transcode /assets/pf_ronda_seven.ttf.
My classpaths are "src", "libMinimalComps_0_9_5_srcassets", and "libMinimalComps_0_9_5_srccomit101components" I'm using Flex SDK 3.5.0.12683 on Windows XP with FlashDevelop 3.2.1 RTM why I'm constantly receiving errors each time I try to build the project?
As with most IDEs when you type something that is an error it will highlight it with the red cross or red underline, and this is what used to happen in Flash Builder 4 but for some reason now it does not work.
I can type any old garbage and hit save, which forces the build (I have build automatically selected) and no error shows on the line, or in the Problems panel.
I'm building a video player using Flash CS4 (hereby referred to as "Flash") to create the graphic symbols and compiling and debugging with Flash Builder 4 ("FB4"). Here are the steps I take in my current workflow: --Create the graphic symbols in Flash. I've created a few different symbols for the player, but I'll focus on just the play/pause button ("ppbutton") here. --In the Library panel, I go to the ppbutton symbol's Linkage properties and link to a class named assets.PlayPauseButtonAsset that extends MovieClip. I do not actually have an assets package nor do I have a class file for PlayPauseButtonAsset as Flash will create them for me when I publish.
--In Flash's Publish settings, I set the project to export a SWC that will be used in FB4, called VideoPlayerAssets.swc. --After the SWC is created, I create my FB4 project called "VideoPlayer" and add the SWC to my path. FB4 creates the class VideoPlayer in the default package automatically. --In VideoPlayer.as, I import assets.*, which imports all of the symbol classes I created in Flash and are available via VideoPlayerAssets.swc. I can now instantiate the ppbutton and add to the stage, like this:
I have .fla called Helicopter and a movieclip in the library with a linkage of Fly. If I use the code-snippet(as a seperate class called Helicopter.as)below with Flash or Flashdeveloper it works fine. If i use FlexBuilder (Actionscript project)I get these errors. is there some settings I have to change in FlexBuilder?
