I need to upload a file from my Flex interface to a folder located on the server.

I use the following [code]...

Problem: I need to pass an additional argument to my upload.php script (actually a String - the name of the folder I want it to be uploaded). Is there a way to do this?

I'm trying to pass my object class as constructor argument. I have something like this:

import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.display.BitmapData;

Now, when I try to create my Example:

var example:Example = new Example(myObjClass);

I get message, that I'm not passing any variable (Error #1063). Why is that? What is wrong with it?

I have recently moved from AS2 to AS3 and I am finding the transition fairly easy, however I do have a few questions, some of which may not have been possible with AS2 but I would like to achieve them in AS3

1. Is it possible to pass the name of a class as an argument in a function and then use it to create a new instance. e.g [code]

2. Carrying on from the previous question, if a class can infact be passed, can I specifying a variable type for the argument so that only classes and not instances will be accepted?

3. I have three class files that all inherit some functions and variable from another class called Ship. Is it possible to specifying a variable type so that the variable can only hold instances of classes that are inherited from the Ship class?

Trying to migrate my way of thinking from AS2 to CS4/AS3. Ok, I have 2 buttons on the stage. Each button does almost the same thing, so I want to create a single function, and each button calls that same function (we'll name that function "Navigate")... however, the function will need to end up doing something different dependant on which button was clicked. So, previously, in AS2, I would've added some code onto the buttons themselves with on(release) methods (see CODE EXAMPLE 1) So, each button effectively calls the Navigate function, and passes a different frame label to the function. Now, I'm trying to recreate this functionality in AS3. As you all know, on(release) has been done away with (still don't know why), but we now have to use event handlers, so I'm trying to figure out a way to pass a different frame label argument to the Navigate function. Currently I can achieve that by using a switch statement to test which button was clicked, and act accordingly (see CODE EXAMPLE 2).

I'm using the FileReference Class under AS2 to pass images to php/imagick for processing and then back to Flash as JPG. The AS is based largely on the Adobe examples here: Adobe Help.Its all working fine across various platforms except that filenames which include spaces never make it to the server - turns out thats about 10% of the images folk are attempting to upload.

I am trying to use the load method of FileReference object to load the data and use it to display a thumbnail of the selected image.However, after calling fr.load(), fr.data remains null.I'm using Flex Builder 3.0.2 on Windows 7 with Flex SDK 3.4 and Flash Player 10 Debug. If I evaluate fr.load() in Eclipse's watch variables list, I get an error reading "No such variable: load."

I'm using code from the tutorial: "Preloading in ActionScript 3" found on this site...I used the exact code, and changed only the swf it's loading in.My swf is pretty simple....just some buttons that contain loaders themselves.Somehow, when i simulate download....it seems to skip the preloader, and immediately load the swf...slowly and choppy. im sure other ppl have been faced with this dilemma. say that you are attaching an event listener to an object which obviously if revoked, will call a function. now how do you send additional params with listeners?so you get something like:

I've always wrote all my code into the .fla and now I'm trying to use classes more. I have my file loading the document class. Then the document class imports two additional classes. In my constructor of the document class I am creating a new instance of both additional classes. Here is my doc class:

Now inside of the other two classes I should be able to just use main_class.myFunc(); Correct? Why isn't is working? How can I interact classes? I have a problem with multiple listeners. Basically I have a box which displays some text and when I hit the space key additional text from the box appears. But the problem is the space key also starts the game.

I want the space key to first display the additional text then hitting the space key starts the game.

So, any ideas how I can use the space key twice without disrupting the first key press?
