Sep 9, 2010I have a dynamically generated swfs with text fields in a html page which have to be printed/have pdfs made from them. The text is virtually unreadable when printed. I have tried setting the sharpness settings on the text fields to highest, rendering the text fields as bitmaps, nothing seems to improve them. Is it possible to get text to print as clear from swf in html page as from plain html text? I have seen the PrintJob class in as3 but this seems to relate to only one swf at a time. Is there possibly a way to use this for highres printing?

Sep 14, 2009I have been on countless Flash forums, reading hundreds of posts with varying degrees of suggestions all of which leave me without a solution. Posts have been floating around regarding this topic for almost a decade now, and nothing seems to get resolved. So I come directly to the source. First off, here's a description of the problem. I am not the designer. The designer is very purposeful about the font styles, sizes, colors, etc, that he select. So to even consider bastardizing his work my substituting in any of these godawful "Fonts For Flash" would be inconceivable and potentially jeopardize my job. (Not really, but he is very passionate about his work... and who am I to question the master. What is baffling to me is if you watch the animation closely, the text is actually clearer during the movement... but as soon as the animation ends, that's when the text turns fuzzy.

I have used the same code when dealing with the label component except the one with clear text used scaling to scale the label component and not being used on the other.

Jun 29, 2009I have a movieclip with dynamic text fields and images, when I add 3D animation to my movieclip it makes my dynamic text and dynamic images slightly blurry. Is there a way to fix this? I'm not using papervision or any 3rd party library I'm using the Flash API.

Aug 27, 2009ok.. so i have a static text that says "QUIT TO MENU"..i set it to "no anti-alias" for a crisp look...i put it inside a movieclip so i can dynamically call it from the library..i exported the movieclip for actionscript and gave it a class name of "QuitToMenuButton".....so i call it from the library using:

Oct 5, 2010I am using an SWC library so that I could use the fl.controls.TextArea in my project in FlashDevelop. While working on an unrelated section of my code I noticed that all my TextArea objects had turned extremely blurry (both the text and the UI elements). I'm not sure when this started, but when I first added and setup the TextArea I spent a lot of time tweaking and configuring it and didn't have any issues with the sharpness of the object.

Aug 1, 2011I am somewhat stuck on building a specific layout in AS3 with data coming from an XML file. And I really didn't expect any problems with layout in Flash.A while ago I built a Flex banner, but due to performance and size issues I want to rebuild it in Flash/AS3.[URL]..My flash file is already parsing the XML and I have all the data I need available. But right now I only show it as text in a htmltext field.After a long time of googeling around, it seems there is no way to achieve the layout with a "classic text" field. Can I do it with a TLF field? It does not look like it.
Can I do it with some displayContainer tricks maybe? I am pretty new to Actionscript, so I can only hope some of you experienced devs can help me with a few hints on this.How would you build it? For every entry I basically need a two column header (left side a image, right side text. all fixed height) below that goes a textfield of "variable" height. And then below that the next entry block, and so on. Just like in the Flex banner.
I found some frameworks, but they all want height values for all of the layout parts. Since I have a variable text height for each entry, I cannot use these frameworks. And because of size constraints I don't really want to use any framework if I can avoid it.

Jun 28, 2009I am trying to parse an some xml that is coming from a php file. I used the DOMDocument to write the xml and then echoed it back out. It's perfectly formatted I'm sure. When I load the php file from flash I don't get any errors but it won't trace the xml. I even have the header ("content-type: text/xml"); in the php file. Can flash pick up xml data from a php file assuming everything is done correctly?

Sep 18, 2006I am trying to export a .swf file which plays video/sound so I can upload the file to a website (embedded). However, the sound does not want to play when in flash. It is basically of a person talking and lasts about 20 seconds. I have exported the file as a .mov using flash mx pro on mac. the .mov file plays in a quicktime but when imported into flash the sounds seems to disappear.

But the tutorial above does not cover xml. Who can show me how I can display the image on the stage, by retrieving ist path from an xml document? how to retrieve data from xml but they forget to mention how to actually display them on stage!
ActionScript 3.0 :: Printing Sprites With Scrollrects Using The Bitmap Printing Option Fixes And Prints Most Of The Stuff In The Sprite
Jun 19, 2007I have a sprite that has a scrollbar that uses the scrollrect feature. The sprite has several bitmaps and textfields. When I print the outer sprite (The one with the scrollrect) all of the textfields outside the scrollrect are cut after the first line. In case anyone else is having problems with printing sprites with scrollrects using the bitmap printing option fixes and prints most of the stuff in the sprite. Excluding all textfields outside of the scrollrect. This however can be fixed partially by embedding your fonts.
So now the only problem left is printing multiline textfields that are outside the scrollrect. P.S. Imho the scrollrect should have nothing to do with the printed area of the sprite because the printJob.addPage has a printarea parameter.

Apr 15, 2008I am using this function for a button in my Flash menu that I want to print my entire HTML page.

After I pop in the code, I go to test the page on my Mac locally and I get this error.
"Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation.
The following local application on your computer or network: I:......main.swf
is trying to communicate with the internet enabled location:
I:.....page.html To let the application communicate click setting. You must restart the application after changing your setting."
And on a Windows machine, nothing even happens.
Obviously I think its not working because I am testing it locally, because the minute I upload it to my server, it works. The only problem is, I need it to work locally because it is going to be viewed from a CD not through the net.
Is there another way for my Flash Button to print the entire HTML page?

Printing With Button And Submitting Input Text In CS4?
May 15, 2009I am trying to make a box where a student enters their name and then clicks a button so their name is rememered and shows up. I have created an input text instance called "nameText" and a button to submit it called "submitMe".
Second, in this game I would like to keep track of when a specific button is clicked. In this game I'm having incoming freshman into college decide if the statement applies to college or high school by clicking on a button (saying high school or college). I want to keep track of their choices and display them on a result page, then clear when I click the replay button on the results page. Each button has its own name for each of the 12 questions (hs1 for high school c1 for college, and so forth until hs12 and c12).
Third, I'm looking for any advice on how to print in flash. The person I am developing this program for wants students to print their results (with their name on it from the "nameText" input field) and be able to hand it in to her in class. I am not sure how to do this and I can't seem to find a clear way that works. I have made a button called "printMe"
Otherwise I've attached the swf file so you can see what I'm thinking.

Aug 6, 2008I'm trying to print the contents of a scrollable text field. Why after all these years this is such an impossible task in Flash is beyond me. But maybe I'm overlooking something?
Right now I have two text fields. One for display and one for printing that is hidden from the user and is roughly the size of A4 paper. The content of the print text field is scrolled as many times as is necessary and each time is added to a print page.
The function looks like this:

Unforntunately this is not very reliable because the size of the print text field does not correspond exactly to the size of the A4 paper and of course the print margins set by the user can differ as well. This results in an overlap of text between the different pages coming out of the printer.

I have a main timeline that has movie clips showing images of different options for the product.On the first frame, I use buttons to select the choice for option 1 from the Option1_mc.Then I store the choice in a variable.I use a button to go to the next choice (frame 10.)
On frame 10, I use buttons to select the choice for option 2 from the Option2_mc.This is stored in another variable.
There are about 10 options that are selected and stored in variables.Some are text values and others are instances of images from the Option movie clips.
I made a Print_mc to use for printjob.I can't get the values of the variables to display in the first frame for printing.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Printing From Text Layout Framework?
Sep 24, 2010Its all about printing a Sprite that holds (besides others) a TLFTextField instance thats textFlow has been imported from an external XML file.
Everthing works fine, the content is formatted in correct way, the textfield is aligned at the desired coordinates so that i have nothing to complain about concerning what is visible ON THE SCREEN.
I then instantiated the PrintJob class, added the sprite to the job and sent it to the printer.
But no text from inside the TFLTextField is printed. Except for that, everything else (I added a background color to the sprite holding everything and a normal TextField instance with dummy text) is processed well.

Jul 21, 2009I am using Flash CS3 and AS2. I have a dynamically generated text string that is displaying in a multiline dynamic text box. This dynamic text box is inside a container movie clip which contains everything that I want my user to be able to print (other dynamic text fields, graphics etc.) When I view my swf on screen it displays exactly as I intended - if the text exceeds the text-box length, then it word-wraps. But when I print the container movieclip, the overflow is hidden and does not wrap to the next line.

Sep 13, 2010I'm trying to print an MC that is on screen with a dynamic text field in the MC - its printing just fine but the placement of one of the elements is off. Basically I have a dynamic text field centered on the stage, however when I print it, the text field moves to the very right on the printed page, while the rest of the contents of the MC stay centered. To clarify on the printed page I basically have this nice page with centered text, but the dynamic textfield is moved all the way to the right of the page.
