It works fine if I wait until the image is actually loaded (loadComplete) and then push the bitmap I create. If I try to push the loaders like you see here, it freezes up, every time. [code]..

I want a random image from the xml to be loaded and displayed when gallery is opened, together with gallery thumbs. Then remaining images are to be loaded in the background.

Flash - Waiting For Multiple Loaders To Complete

I have an arbitrary number of images I want to load. I want to load them, wait until I get an Event.INIT for each, and only then proceed with the rest of the program. I know I can do that by having an Event.INIT listener update and check some count variable, but is that the standard approach? Is there a more elegant or AS-specific way?

I have a project that needs 4 levels of zoom, each with its own image loading in. So, to make things easier on myself, I made an array of the Loaders, so I can instantiate them and hide/display them when I need to.However, this doesn't work as I had expected.I.e. i have been building a library that has thumbnails which you click to view the full image. i have built the application it works but i want to change the way the image on the actual thumbnail loads using code instead of manually adding the value to the url loader component.

the loop runs fine without the last line of code which i've commented out.the make up of these thumbnails are a uiLoader component which are each inside there own movieClip.what i wanted this to do was every time the loop runs it currentLoad adds 1 to its value then that value is subbed into instanceN:String and thumbnailURL address that bit works the trace statements read correctly.but my issue is using the instanceN value as the instance name path which then loads the current thumbnailURL value which is the URL address for the thumbnail picture.when i try to load the url address using the commented out code above i got the error .TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.the trace statements correct values below

the first value is the currentLoad value.

the second value is the instance name path.

the third is is the URL address for the thumbnail.[code].....

My question, is there any difference to declare each array as such, before pushing them to the main array? trace(arr[0]);// i know it traces the arrays contents, but if it could, would it tell me this is data type Array , exactly the same as if i had declared it?

I am making a web page and i have to load in to main page swf multiple swfs that represent background. First there is a gradient swf than swf with snow particle system. My question is what would be best practice to use one loader for all different swfs that are in the background or should i use different loaders for different swfs?Here is what i mean:

1.) var loader:Loader = new Loader();

I use this loader to load first gradient swf and after it it has completed loading i use same loader to load snow swf.

2.) var loader:Loader = new Loader(); + loader = new Loader();

I use this loader to load first gradient swf and after it it has completed loading i set it again to be loader = new Loader();
and than i use this loader to load snow swf.

3.) var bgLoaderGradient:Loader = new Loader(); + bgLoaderSnow:Loader = new Loader();

I use it to load gradient swf and than i make new loader,

bgLoaderSnow:Loader = new Loader();
to load snow swf.

So what would be best way to do loading of the swfs.

I'm updating a flash player some other guys built, it's in good shape but the functionality that my client wants me to add seemed easy at first but turned into a *nice* little puzzle. What I'm trying to do is a "reverse" xml load. Reverse because the way I've done it is have flash load an xml and parse it within the swf. But this one is the reverse of that. Basically I have multiple swfs that need to be dynamically populated by one xml file. Each swf (the same .swf) needs different text and images. I can see trying to do it a number of ways but their all leading to dark tunnels I don't know if I can get out of.

Is it possible to push an object into a specific index in an array. Because I have a set array from 1-10 and each index has a unique purpose so I was wondering if it would be possible to do something like:

array[1].push(object);

If not whats the best way to do this? At the moment I have a seperate array and I just do array[1] = arrayOfObjects.length -1;

ok this is going to be tricky to explain. The scenario is i have an array like so Code: var Final:Array = new Array(); and i have a class with a bunch of variables grouped together (no function in this one) the original reason was for this to serve as a way making seperate instances (something like a structure from C++ i suppose) when needed but once i explain further it might just be making it more complicated. now what im doing is to use array.push to add new objects inside the above array. but the problem is every time i push i mostly likely will need to "create" a new instance of the object am i correct.but i cant do that sice the function that does will have a static name for the instance of the object i push into the array.

i hope that made sense, now what i need as a solution is some way to dynamically add unique instances of the object into the array without having to have unique names everytime. i can only see two logical method of doing this, one is to figure a way of dynamical naming the instances, or to have some sort of syntax like array.push(new Object(Copy stuff from a temporary Object)); But one more would be to avoid using objects all together but even that ive tried to figure out

in a loop i wish to load a sequence of images in an individual movieclip for each. e.g image0 in movieClip0, image1 in movieClip2 etc...

i've set up the loop and the movieclips are added using an array.

addChild(aMovieClips[i]);

when i use loaders.load(new URLRequest("assets/images"+section+cityCode+i+".png"));

it unloads the previous images and only shows one image in the last movieClip.

I then tried using loader[i].load but this didnt work.

I then tried creating the loaders outside of the loop and then adding them to an array but this doesnt seem to work.

specifically it breaks at aMovieClips[i].addChild(aLoaders[i]);

How do i go about adding a different image to each individual movieClip.

I am running into some trouble adding an array into another array to create a multi-dimensional array.The code appears as below:

I am looking for a means of placing the slideDataArray into a 'slot' or value of slideShowDataArray so that I can in the end pass the slideShowDataArray as a parameter to another function.As of now, the last slideDataArray appears 11 times (the loop runs 11 times) in slideShowDataArray and the way the code is written the slideDataArray is unique every iteration of the loop.

ActionScript 1/2 :: Add A Time Delay Before Pushing To An Array?

I have a function, loadXML, that loads an xml file with a list of locations to OTHER xml files.  Within this function I load each individual xml file and run a new function, parseXML, to pass each of the variables I desire from the individual xml files into an array.
 
This all works fine and dandy on my computer, but when I run it online it breaks down.
 
What I believe is going on is that the initial xml file loads fine, but because the referenced xml files are on the web and are varying sizes, they stop loading sequentially and the data no longer corresponds to the xml file referenced in referenceListA array.  (ie. all the data from each referenced file, item1, item2, and item3 will stay together because they are called at the same time, but will become mixed up from the referenced xml file).
 
This normally would not be a big deal, but because I want to also create a link BACK to the referenced xml file, sometimes the link will not lead back to right location (it will lead back to another xml file in the list).
 
I was thinking about adding a time delay somehow in the loadXML function to give time to load the newxml file, but that would still be problematic...
 
How can I make sure that the referenceListA[i] mathes up to its own information?

I seem to have run into a situation where when I push a value to an array held within a singleton via a getter/setter , Flash seem so access the getter over the setter method. Within my command/controller (I am using RobotLegs)

The getter and setter within my model e.g. robot legs singleton

When I set a break point on both the getter and setter, only the getter method is being called, why? I would think that a push value on the array would trigger the setter, not the getter.

I have a menu swf with multiple buttons and an animated logo which is in a loader called myLoader

These buttons are in an MC which uses this[code]...

...and so on with the add.event.listeners and they all work great- they overlap the menu then disappear.

The problem I have is the logo always stays on top of everything. Looks rather stupid, is there a way I can hide this logo behind the swfs while they play?

Here's what I am trying to do: I have an array of movie clip instances called iconArray[]. what I want to do is create the effect of shifting icons on screen right or left. Lets say we're shifting the icons left--what I want to happen is the icon on the left (iconArray[0]:MovieClip) to tween to the left about 20-30 pixels and then fade out, which I can currently achieve. The problem is I want copy the instance of that icon as a temp MC and push it onto iconArray and then have it fade in tween from the right.
 
In other words, the left most icon should "wrap" back around to the position of the right most icon but in order to create the illusion without having the left most icon pass over the other icons (which looks tacky) I want to create a copy of the left most icon and push it onto the array as a new movieclip with the same image and have that fade in from the right while the other one dies off.

it does not create a new icon, is seems to point to the same movie clip as iconArray[0] and any adjustments I make to the x or alpha affect the original MovieClip instance and not the new on I created and pushed onto the array.
 
How does one go about copying a movieclip, storing it in it's own instance/var so it can be displayed and manipulated as a separate entity?

I'm loading a bunch of SWFs at the same time. I'm using a custom class to do the loading. Most of the time they all load OK, however occasionally one or two will be unloaded (I can see that in the console) before we get to the Event.COMPLETE. The ProgressEvents are all fine - I can see them loading, but then boom - they're unloaded.

I've done a bit of digging around and discovered that this may be a bug in the Loader class where if you are using multiple instances of the class then sometimes one or more will be Garbage Collected before they finish loading and are therefore unloaded. I've tried keeping a reference to the loader and the classes holding the loaders and I'm still having the problem. The solution is to queue the loads and load each swf in order which isn't a problem, just a bit irritating.

Relative Performance Of Native C++ To Flash For Pixel-pushing?

I was trying to get a ballpark idea of how much slower Flash is at pure pixel-pushing 2D graphics than doing the same thing in SDL or other native library. For instance if I have a Flash/Flex app on a modern PC which each frame does a 2D loop and directly reads/sets every pixel, what equivalent PC would give the same performance for a native C++ app? Maybe a classic Pentium, a PII, PIII?
