My project consists of various external SWF files and also uses SWFAddress. What I want is the internal state of some external clips to set the SWFAddress value.
View 1 RepliesI'm creating a Flash interactive thing which is basically a couple minute animated intro and then a menu of products to choose from. You click on one of 12 products and get a little animation about how it works. So my question is where to put these 12 product animations? I was originally thinking to just put them in the main timeline and just jump to them with labels but I'm thinking that the timeline is going to get too hairy, it's already got a lot. Now I'm wondering what the best approach should be. Should I produce 12 external SWF movies to be loaded when clicked on, or should I just make each product animation an internal movie symbol and just add an instance from the library to my main timeline? Or is there any other approach that might be better for some reason?

I have my test site at alenelias.com/home2.html and I'm using an old AS2 class for the buttons to do the up, over, hover, selected states.When you click the back button on the browser, the selected state doesn't change and I can't figure out how to fix this and it is the most important problem here.The title of the pages has the forward slashes as well and tried to change it with no luck.And third if I keep clicking back, once I reach the intro page (loader in a different scene), if I press forward, the url changes but the page does not. I have four movie clips already created and I want to make it so that when someone visits the page and accesses it for the first time, one of the four is randomly selected and plays (I also want to be able to tell it what frame of the movie clip to go to)!
I am a beginner developer in Flex, and I have been using viewstates lately. I had a couple of custom popup titlewindow components that are initialized using[code]...
They both contain view states already, and are very similar so I wanted to combione them into one popup titlewindow and change view state on initialisation of the popup to either the Create version of the popup or the Update.
I thought I was being smart haha, but I realized soon after refactoring my code that, I as far as I know I can't pass parameters to the popup to indicate which state I want, if it is created using the PopUpManager.
Does anyone know how to pass parameters to the PopupManager, or create the ContentCreate component(TitleWindow) in mxml or code so I can specify the view state?
The timeline swf itself (the core of the site) is being loaded into a wrapper swf, as one of the requirements is that this timeline can be used elsewhere, in other projects. This wrapper, however, will have some additional visuals that pertain to a stand-alone version of this timeline. As a result of never knowing exactly where this is going to be used (either a subchapter in another flash website, or as a stand-alone site by itself), I've decided to dump all of the swfAddress code into the wrapper, in a child class of it. To handle the navigation changes, I'm dispatching custom events (from the timeline) with parameters that describe the nav changes, which gets picked up by the parent wrapper, which then calls a function in the swfAddress child class for handling.
Also done in this swfAddress class is the parsing of the URL onChange event (when a browser back button button or history changes the nav, rather than a Flash button). This, too, dispatches an event with info about the parsed URL, which the wrapper is picking up and then calling a function in the timeline's API to make the necessary changes.

i have been trying SEO to get it noticed. I came across Swfaddress and statemanager and decided to implement them. I have examined the sample files for both methords and decided i want to use SWFaddress (it works well with google analytics).My problem is that the examples of swfaddress use a frame based navigation and my site uses buttons which load the pages into a loader component via a preloader. Do you think it would be possible to use SWFaddress with my site?
View 5 RepliesI'm currently developing my own 2D shoot em-up and using a book called "The essential guide to Flash games" as reference to create my own enemy spawn state machine where the game keep spawning enemies (game goes on forever till player dies). I attempted to trigger each enemy spawn occuring to the game's level with an variable called "chance".
With my current attempts, the game either only spawns one enemy and spawns no others or doesn't spawn any enemies at all. I was wondering anyone here has any suggestions/tips for this issue I'm having?

Ive got a working code but this one is static. But... what if I wanted to have another menu from within the loaded external swf, and have that have its own loaded external swfs, url change etc, as well? Now, in the "news.swf" there is yet another menu, this one with two buttons: one button says "Article 1" and the other "Article 2" and each would signal a URL change and load "article1.swf" and "article2.swf" respectively when clicked. the problem is that when i click on another link i.e. "Home"...i have an outro that plays.it is a mask that covers all the buttons and creates a wipeout effect. but you'll notice right after you click the link the buttons return to their original opacity. is there a way to have their current opacity stay so that they don't return to original when the wipeout occurs? the code is fairly simple. each rollover button(movie clip) has the following code.

I was wondering what the best way to load my flash game would be. I know how to make an external preloader, but if I want to upload the .swf of the game to a site like newgrounds, Im guessing I need an internal preloader.I've tried a few times but my game only displays after the swf is 100% loaded. While its loading I just see white screen with grey "..." which im guessing is built into the flash player.
I have a .fla called AsteroidsGame.fla which has a library of some classes, and the game's structure is coded into a .as file called AsteroidsGame.as. Maybe this is causing issues?

I am working on a project for a client. It is a service map for their company. It is basically an isometric view of the clients state, split up into counties. The counties are individual Movie Clips. When a clip is rolled over, it appears to float up above the rest and it glows and displays a tool tip with county specific information. On roll out, the clip tweens back down to its original position in the isometric lay out.
Heres my issue, These Movie Clips are all odd shapes since they are counties in a state. If the mouse is positioned at the bottom edge of one of these clips it will "bounce" as in it rolls over, tweens up, sees the mouse isnt there, tweens back down, hits the mouse, and goes back up again. I have tried rearranging my event listeners, and even adding a timer to the tween back down, i still get the bouncing effect. here is some of the basic code.

I understand loading external text into flash through actionscript to produce a quick way to modify text without modifying the flash movie. The problem is being able to create hyperlinks in the external text to navigate within the movie (website). So my question, Is there a way to load external text but with the ability to code links into words or phrases that point to instance names (frames) within the movie (website).

I've got a project that I've been avoiding because it's something I've never done before. I have a concept game that I put together with internal AS3. I wasn't given much time make it work, otherwise I would have done the code externally to start.
The project is now 'go', but I want to convert the crappy internal code to external. I don't have any of those fancy IDE's. I could get one, if it would help.Does anyone know of any tutorials covering internal to external conversion? Has anyone else done this? Is there a simple list of things to convert to make the code work externally?

There is nothing wrong with my code, because it works fine on my mac, but not on pc.
I am creating a side scrolling game in Flash (as3) and trying to keep things organized and clean.Ive created a "Level" class that gets all the level data, player data, and creates all the terrain objects and the player object. Its starting to get messy because im handlng all of the functions for player collision checks and player movement, terrain movement, sound starting and stopping, enemies, and more, all in this class. Is this normal? Or is there a better way to organize things to keep them separate, but still allow them to interact with each other.
