ActionScript 3.0 :: Tracing The CurrentFrame Of A Nested MovieClip

I can't trace the currentFrame of a deeply-nested MovieClip which I animate it using Tween. this.menuDropDown.column001 is the MovieClip I need to trace it's frame. It has 20 Frames. I can use stop() and gotoAndStop() on that without problems, but if I trace its currentFrame, I always get 1. instead of 1-20.

I have checked over and over again. But when I run it, it always skips the first two currentFrame if conditionals and runs the last currentFrame if conditional. I have this code in another file and it works perfectly...

I am building a gallery that displays images. There is a gallery movie that controls which image is displayed. It is on level 2.
The images are on loaded in movieclips onto level 3. What I am trying to do is create back and forward buttons that load with the images.
What I'm trying to do is get the button that loads with the images (on level 3) to send a command to the movie clip on level 2 top move forward twelve frames.
I've tried using currentFrame to get the clip to move forward, but it I can't get it to work properly. Here's what I have (this is all AS2 in CS4):

_level2.clip.gotoAndPlay(currentFrame + 12);
}
What seems to be happening is the currentFrame is being defined as the frame on level3 that the button is on. Flash takes that frame number, adds 12 to it and then moves the clip on level 2 forward that many frames. So if my button on level3 is on frame 2, the clip on level2 gets moved 14 frames.
What I need to happen is for the currentFrame to refer to the current frame on level2, not the current frame on level3.

I have a movieclip on the stage with 3 frames. Each frame has a stop(); in the actions layer. I have double (and triple and quadruple) checked the label names.There is a button to toggle between the three frames of the movie clip. A Frame 1 button, a Frame 2 button, and a Frame 3 button. The movie clip (there are lots of them) is then spawned with a mouse click. The movie clips are already declared at the beginng. They are not unlimited so I can just have a for loop go through all of them and change the frame number even before they are spawned and added to the display list.Frame 2 and Frame 3 work just fine. But the button to go to Frame 1 will display Frame 1 on all of the pieces that are already on the stage, but on all new pieces that will be spawned, it just displays whatever other button was pressed last. For instance if I have a movie clip on the stage that's displaying Frame 2 and I hit the buttom for Frame 1, the movie clip will switch to Frame 1. But if I spawn a new movie clip, it will display Frame 2. If I then click back on the Frame 2 button and then again to Frame 1, the movie clip will correct itself.
I can't find where on earth in the code it's going wrong. I've tried using traces but I can't find any problems or inconsistencies. Everywhere I put a trace to tell me what frame the object is at, it traces correctly. I'll click on Frame 1 button, then click on the stage, and it will trace to the output menu that the current spawned movie clip is on Frame 1 when it's very clearly displaying Frame 2.[code]

Does anyone know a good way to acquire the currentFrame of a movieclip symbol placed on the main timeline? currently there is only 1 frame, but the movieclip has 50.
If i trace currentFrame, i only get 1. and tracing the child name doesnt work either.
I got it to work earlier but it crashed before i got to save and now i cant figure it out. Was something to do with making another movieclip symbol.

I know that the functionality of the addChildToStage and deleteChildFromStage functions works fine because I have tested it here: [URL] the nav adds a new instance of "player" to the stage and the big red button deletes "player".
I want to start the movie with a mc_CopyBlank on stage and then have the nav issue play(); command to the movie clip held in "player" then have the current frame of that clip trigger the addChildToStage and DeleteChildFromStage functions that I've written here. The .fla is hosted here: [URL]why this doesn't work. Feel free to keep the .fla as it's basically a barebones four page site. (if it ever works)

I'm coding buttons and have them all switching but I want to set b1 so that it doesn't replay a movieClip if it's clicked again. So I click on b1 and bring up page1, if I click on b1 again it replays the fade-in. How do I set this so if it's already loaded it won't load again?

I have a masked movieclip which contains nothing but static text inserted from the IDE (not programatically).
In the IDE it states this movieclips height to be 332.25, however when I trace the movieclips _height property it returns 327.3.
This is causing my scrollbar code to mess up as it is not scrolling down far enough. It is also not a one off thing, every block of text I make in the IDE exhibits this behaviour.

So. I have this relatively simple code

when I run it, there's this wierd random star just in the middle of the screen. I tried tracing all stars with _x values of 0, 200, undefined; _xscale values of 0, 100, undefined. There was nothing. I don't know why it's there. I don't even know if it has code in it. =/ Does anyone know what it is? Btw, I know it looks like crap ... sorta more like a glue gun than stars ... I have a better looking version, I just used this to try to disect the problem.

I'm trying to build a styled, rounded button movieclip that I can reuse/resize. So inside a movieclip, I have two layers:
Layer 1: A border, which is a shape - a rounded rectangle (or actually the stroke of a rounded-rect).
Layer 2: A nested movieclip which contains a shape for the face of the button. I have added filters to this nested movieclip to give it a beveled-type look - typical rounded button stuff.
So, I've tried applying scale-9 to the parent movieclip: in this case the border scales fine, but the face (with the filters) does not. So, then I tried applying scale-9 to both the parent and the nested face movieclip,I want to be able have the button self contained as a clip which I can pull from the library, drop on the stage, and scale without distortion - and so far, as mentioned,I can't figure out how the get the nested face, the one with the filters applied, to scale appropriately.

I'm having a problem trying to get some nested movie clips to play. I have three movie clips on three different layers all on frame one of the parent layer. each layer has a labIe (well just call it "layer1", "layer2. "layer3") I have a stop command on the parent level (on its own layer). each of the three movie clips has its own animation (the nested animation). The lower two have a stop command in their first frame(nested) so they wont play. Only the top movieclip would play on run. I want to place a gotoandplay command in the nested timeline of the above movie, that will start to play the next lower movie clip nested timeline, as the above one is ending, and repeat this process to cylce back around to the top movieclip. The overall goal is to have one animation move into the other using nested timeline smoothly.

I created a stage size 960 by 640, than i create a movieclip exactly the same size as the stage, but when i double click to get into the movieclip everything get smaller an object with 960 by 640 has reduce to 184by 140??? How do I get it back to the original size?

I have a main swf that loads an external swf (WNC.swf). The external swf (WNC.swf) contains a scrollPane that loads another external swf (WNC_DATA.swf). I'm trying to target the WNC_DATA.swf from the main swf, so I can tell it to go to frame (2). The following code targets the first child swf (WNC.swf), however I'm unable to target WNC_DATA.swf inside the scrollPane.

If -- draggable -- moivieClip_A is created, and then moivieCLip_B is created as a child of movieClip_A, (when movieClip_A is dragged onPress, movieClip_B simultaneously moves with it), is it possible to change a property of movieClip_B with a mouse event? Seems as though movieClip_A's layer position / mouse events are blocking mouse events for movieClip_B.

This is probably a very simple solution, but I can't seem to find it online. Basically, I have a button that need to change a movieclip's frame in it's parent.So I tried:

But it's not working! I know I'm getting to the right locaiton because _parent holds a variable, and I can access that just fine. But I for some reason can't access the movieclip at all.
Note: I can't upgrade to AS3 (What I'm used to) as this isn't my file.

i have a movie clip and inside that MC i have a menu with some buttons(they are also MovieClips), my buttons(MC) inside the menu MC are animated by the mx.transitions tweens, all of that works fine.
then i want to put my menu with some transparency by default and restablish the _alpha to 100% when i rollOver the menu, when i do that the change with the _alpha propertie works fine but my buttons inside the MovieClip no longer works?

Im having a problem adding a child to a nested movieclip.the main movieclip is instanced when the user clicks on the create gallery button.the code then proceeds to create x movieclips(productFrames) with nested movieclips(imageFrame) with instance name:imageFrame1 & dynamic text frames(title & genus) & then add text to those frames & an image to one of the nested mcs

I am trying to design a menu system that pops up which I have just about managed. however nested in the menu movie clip are a number of other movie clips which I want to use as buttons but I am having problems getting the movie clips to load a swf once clicked. I tried putting a button in side the menu movie clip and it would not even recognize the mouse over which makes me think you can not nest buttons or movie clips in another movies clip?
