ActionScript 3.0 :: Time That Is Not Affected By System Clock Change On Mac

Feb 7, 2012

I want to calculate the number of ms elapsed between 2 time points for measuring reaction time. The system clock change (e.g. from auto sync) messed up the calculation.The function flash.utils.getTimer is supposed to return the number of milliseconds that have elapsed since the Flash runtime virtual machine for ActionScript 3.0 (AVM2) started. This number of milliseconds is not affected by system clock change on Windows, but this is not true on Mac. The Date class is affected by system clock change on Windows or Mac.Is there any other timing function that returns time which is not affected by system clock change on Mac?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Digital Clock That Grabs The System's Time?

Dec 9, 2010

I'm having a lot of trouble getting my AS3 code to work. I have made a digital clock that grabs the system's time and I want to be able to control the speed of the time by using a slider and a button to reset the time back to the system's clock. Any idea how I go about doing this? I figure I need to grab the system's time and then stop it and create my own clock by increasing the seconds by 1.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Clock - The Digital Clock Works Fine, But The Analog Clock Just Starts From A Random Time?

Apr 12, 2011

I have to make this analog clock for a university assignment and despite some really good efforts last night and tonight I just can't work out how to get it fully working. There is both a digital and analog clock; the digital clock works fine, but the analog clock just starts from a random time whenever I play the test movie. I am supposed to use the date object, not the timer object. And I am also supposed to add a sound every minute - I have added the sound to the minutes layer and selected but I don't know where to go from there. I seem to be able to find lots of example code for the timer object but not the date.

this.addEventListener("enterFrame",clockHandler); false, 0, true;
function clockHandler(e:Event)

Click to Activate and Use this Control. upgrade to Studio 8 has been rendered anemic by the requirements of "more security" by Microsoft and others. Flash :: Source Control System For Binary File?

Oct 20, 2010

We use subversion, which works great for software projects. We also have a lot of flash projects, which we don't use any kind of source control. Each flash project contain quite a few images. The time frame of each project is a couple weeks, but few can go upto a couple months.

The number of files we create contribute to quite a bit of file size. To keep repository size at a minimum, we want to keep the latest version only and wipe out previous history once a project is finished. History is useless to us after a project is finished.

It looked into subversion, but it doesn't allow to remove anything from the repository. I need to perform this workaround here.

One easy way is creating a separate repository for each project. When the project is over, save the latest version to archive and wipe out the repository. The number of active projects is about 50 - 100. Is there any issue with creating one repository per project?

Actionscript 3.0 :: Control Firing Order Of MC's With Timer Class?

Sep 11, 2010

I am working on a card game.When the game initializes, 2 cards get dealt to the dealer and 2 to the player. Each card MC is created dynamically. When you hit the deal button, the cards are dealt, but all appear at the same time. So i figured i would try using the Timer class in order to delay each card so they are dealt one-at-a-time. Seemed easy enough, but evidently i am missing something obvious and probably embarrassing. The short, simple code, which i expected to be a no-brainer, doesn't seem to want to work. My ignorance with the Timer class isn't helping where i am going wrong or if i am way out in left field? I created a Timer that repeats 4 times(repeatCount). I was thinking that i could target e.repeatCount with a case statement and fire off each card. I can't seem to get it working though.

Code: Select allimport flash.events.TimerEvent;
import flash.utils.Timer;
var dealTimer:Timer = new Timer(200, 4);

ActionScript 3.0 :: Unable To Control The Root Timeline From A Class?

Sep 1, 2009

I've been trying to switch from AS2 to AS3 by forcing myself to use AS3 on every project and never revert to AS2 no matter what the problem may be. Doing this, I've learned a lot so far, and it has shown me that AS3 has the potential to be much more logical and easier to manage, but every once in a while I run into a problem in which research doesn't prevail.

At the moment I'm working on a project that uses the Union Platform. My goal is to make all control over User1's "Reactor" API managed by a single class.

Anyways, I've ran into a very limiting problem that I can't seem to get by. I can't figure out a way to call the root object and be able to call it's functions from a class!

Here's one of the methods that I've tried (No errors were reported, but it did not work) -

main.as:

Code:
package {
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import net.user1.reactor.Reactor;

[Code]...

As you can see, I tried to pass "this" as a MovieClip in hopes that I would be able to use the MovieClip's class functions. (Which is most likely very nooby and completely wrong since it's probably not considered a MovieClip reference, but what do I know?) Everything is fine, except the swf does not go to frame 2 when readyListener() is called. No errors are outputted either.

Unable To Make The Imported Buttons Control The Timeline Of The Parent?

Jan 18, 2009

I have an swf file, MyRoundButtons, which is a set of radio buttons I built (not components). It works fine, but if I import it into a parent it won't work anymore. I have to write a script to load it into a movieclip, (which I hate, because I'll have a several different swfs to assemble on my final stage. I really want to see them all on the stage together, not just at runtime.)

Even when I load it into a clip and the buttons work, however, it doesn't seem to have a separate timeline when double-clicked ,and:I can't make the imported buttons control the timeline of the parent.I defined a test function:

Code: Select allfunction goToNirvana() {gotoAndPlay("nirvana")};

Frame "nirvana," in th parent, has a Trace instruction in it.
goToNirvana works on its own in the parent. [code].....

Whether I define that function in the child, the parent, or both, the instruction won't work. Now, I'd prefer not to do the loadMovie thing at all if I can avoid it, I'd rather have fully rendered button clips onstage at authoring for me to arrange and move about, with fully independent timelines right there. But you see what I'm trying to do. I just can't get it done.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Global Timer Control - Remove Instance Refs From Array?

Sep 15, 2008

I'm writing a video game and I have used timers all over the place to make everything go. Now I want to be able to pause the game, completely. Meaning, I need to stop and start all timer instances at once, or globally. So I created a Timer subclass called CustomTimer, put some statics in there, came up with the attached code. Now my problem is that I'm pretty sure I've created a memory leak, in that the instances array will just grow and wont allow or gc. So, my question is, is there an "onDestroy()" method or somesuch, that I can override, and use that moment to remove instance refs from the instances array? Or, is there a smarter way to do this? an application object with a pause method perhaps?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Rotator Timer - Adding Buttons For User To Control Item

Aug 24, 2009

I have a news rotator that is populated from an RSS feed. The rotator has a timer that cycles through the news items, displaying a link and image and title for each item. I have the put in three buttons for the user to control the item that is displaying. A pause, forward and backward button.

My issue is that I'm not sure how to implement the button without messing up my timer that is already running. I was able to do the Pause button, which was simply to stop the timer. The forward and backward buttons are a bit more tricky. This is what I have so far. Note that I have much of the code duplicated because I needed to initialize the objects for the first timer index. After the first item, the code runs from the timerHandler() function.

PHP Code:
var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
var xmlData:XML = new XML();
import fl.transitions.Tween;
import fl.transitions.easing.*;
import fl.transitions.TweenEvent;
