ActionScript 3.0 :: What Happens When Event Dispatches Quicker As Eventhandler Can Handle It

Feb 13, 2010

You got an eventlistener for an object that can dispatches events in intervals of 0.2ms.And if the eventhandler would need 0.5ms for his operation, what would happen? (listener and handler are in the same class).Would the last event overwrite the event before? In my case, I get some data from a xmlSocket, and I thought, that some datastrings can come in quicker than to work it off in my handler.

ActionScript 3.0 :: When Xml Is Loaded Class2 Dispatches A Complete Event

Nov 30, 2008

My class is dispatching 2 events. One event is captured by another class, and the second event not.I have 2 classes. Class1 creates an object of Class2 and calls a function to load an xml. When xml is loaded class2 dispatches a Complete event. This event is listened by Class1 and then it calls another function of Class2. When the second function executes completely Class2 dispatches second event. Now the problem starts. Class1 is not able to capture this second event. Whereas while dispatchEvent is called from class2, it return true as a notification that the event is dispatched successfully.

I want to handle this error event so that the user can be presented with an error that the problem is too complex.I don't want to extend the timeout period as 15 seconds is reasonable.

Flash :: NavigateToURL Handle Redirect Event?

Feb 23, 2012

I am working on integrating the social network "vkontakte" into my desktop application using Adobe AIR. The flow of authorization in the app is as follows:

Open the web browser with a url, and when the user inputs login and password, redirect to somePage.html. From that URL, I need to get an access_token to sign all future API requests.

So the question really is: How can I listen to an event, which will indicate that the user has logged in successfully, or failed to get that access_token?

Here is the code I am using:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Create Event Class That Can Handle The Target Property?

Jan 30, 2009

I'm not sure if it's possible, but can you override a variable of a parent class like you can override a function? I'm trying to create my own event class that can handle the target property. I have a custom imageLoader class, but when it dispatches it's loading complete event:

ActionScript Code: dispatch(new Event("load_complete")); and a listener picks it up, e.target = null where I would like e.target to equal the imageLoader instance that has finished loading.

Does anyone have an answer or a better way to accomplish what I am aiming for?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Add The Eventhandler After A Certain Period Of Time?

Apr 14, 2009

I have a simple app that stops on frame 1. There's a button that after clicking moves me to frame 2. On frame 2 I have another button to which I would like to add an eventhandler similar to the one for the first button - I am however unable to, as I get the following error :

Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

I tried to add the eventhandler after a certain period of time (with the use of a timer) and that works, but seems a totally dumb workaround - and the error obviously pops up because the code that tries to add the eventhandler launches before the second button is actually created. How should I solve such a scenario ? I tried to fiddle with other events like Event.ADDED and Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE but the first one seems sort of wild - it goes off every time I even wave my mouse cursor over the first button (why ?) and the second one doesn't go off at all when my app moves to frame 2 - shouldn't it trigger ?

Actionscript 3 :: Handle An Event In A File That Was Dispatched From A Mobile Spark Component

Jan 11, 2012

I have an mxml file called HomeView.mxml in a mobile app built using Flash Builder 4.6. In that HomeView.mxml I have an HSlider, which is dispatching events when the thumb is moved. What I'm trying to do is to listen for that valueCommit event in an .as file elsewhere in the project.

Whenever the thumb moves, an event is dispatched in HomeView.mxml:

hSlider.dispatchEvent(new FlexEvent("valueCommit", true));

I can handle that event in HomeView.mxm, but not in an .as class called view.as

In view.as I import the FlexEvent and I then have, in addedToStageHandler:

stage.addEventListener(FlexEvent.VALUE_COMMIT, commitHandler);

Then there's a simple Handler:

private function commitHandler(e:FlexEvent):void
{
trace("committed!");
}

But this code never runs. I do have a handler in the HomeView.mxml file which handles the event, but for other reasons I need to handle it in view.as as well.

Quicker Way To Arrange Several Bitmaps

Dec 16, 2010

I want to know if there is a faster way to take several bitmaps and arrange them one after another in a single layer in a movie clip.

This is how I am doing it currently.

Stage 1: Import the bitmaps to the stage

Stage 2: Distribute the bitmaps to layers

Stage 3: Make the first bitmap a movie clip symbol and cut the other bitmaps' frames

Stage 4: Go into the symbol, create a new layer, and paste the frames.

Stage 5: Click and drag the other frames into one layer, one after the other.

I now have a single movie clip with all my bitmaps ordered one after the other in the timeline.

Flex :: Get App To Load Quicker?

Apr 28, 2010

We've got an app written in Flex that displays data from our app. The .swf file is only 427kb, but it takes a full five seconds to load in Firefox. This is a headache for our users because they need to access the page that contains the app frequently. (The app displays documents, and it's really slow to march through a list of them).

I've confirmed that it's not a slow web server problem. The .swf appears to be cached in the browser. Firebug reports that every time the web page accesses the .swf, the app server returns a "304 Not Modified" response, meaning that the load time from the server is almost zero.

Is there anything we can do to debug this issue? Or is the Flash player just slow?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Display Objects Drawn To Bitmap Always Dispatches Rollover / Rollout

Apr 12, 2009

If you draw a movieclip (with a 3d rotation on it) to bitmap, eventlisteners will always dispatch rollout and rollover for that movieclip (on mouse over). A solution could be to set the matrix3d = null ,draw, and then apply the original matrix3d, but I can't do this in my project 'cause all clips is a 3d object to a parent 3d object that gets drawn to a bitmap every frame.

To see the bug, copy this example code into the first frame on the stage (CS4 flashplayer 10).
var bmp:BitmapData = new BitmapData(100, 100); //setup a dummy bitmap
var bmpContainer:MovieClip = new MovieClip;
bmpContainer.addChild(new Bitmap(bmp));
var box:MovieClip = new MovieClip;
addChild(box);

Actionscript 3 :: Box2D In Flash Runs Quicker When Drawing Debug Data Than Not?

Jan 24, 2010

I've created a small game with Box2d for AS3 - I have sprites attached to the stage that take their position from the underlying Box2d world. These sprites are mostly PNGs.When the game runs with DrawDebugData() bening called every update, it runs nice and smoothly. However when I comment this out, it runs choppily. In both cases all my sprites are being rendered. So it seems that it's running faster when it's drawing the debug data additionaly (i.e. my sprites are on the screen in both cases!)What's going on? Does drawing the debug data flick some sort of 'render quick' switch? If so, what's the switch!? I can't see it in the Box2D code.

function Update(e){
m_world.Step(m_timeStep, m_velocityIterations, m_positionIterations);
// draw debug?[code]...

Interestingly, If i set the debug draw scale to something different to my world scale, it slows down to 19fps. So there's something happening when it draws the boxes under my sprites causing it to run quicker..
