I'm trying to imitate the spining preloader that fades as it rotates and I can't remember how to name each of the lines that are created with this code so I can later add the script to modifiy their independent alpha as it turns.
I don't know wether I need to create another function or what to do...
var numLines:Number = 12; var extRadAsterisc:Number = 20; var intRadAsterisc:Number = 10; var centreX:Number = 110;
How do you assign an object different variables.I tried setting it up like this but I get an error.[code]How do you do this correctly I get error Label must be simple identifier when I do it like this.
I have done this same thing in ActionScript 3, but am not familiar with ActionScript 2, which I am forced to use for this project. I am loading products into a SWF via XML and attempting to add a click event to each dynamically-created movieclip. Simply tracing the text from a node in XML will do for now. I'd like to assign a property called "desc" or "description" to each movieclip and have it trace that property's value when clicked. Here is the relevant portion of my code as it stands[code]...
As primitives are copied as 'value' not by Reference, this doesnt work:
ActionScript Code: var myPrimitive1:int = 10; var myPrimitive2:int = myPrimitive1; myPrimitive2 = 20; // i want this to affect myPrimitive1 too
My goal is to pick a random property on a data Object() and alter that. My approach was to put all the Objects properties into an array, and then randomise that array, and pick the first element. The only problem is of course that, that element is no longer a Reference to the original, so If I change that it wont alter the original...
ActionScript Code: // Create Data Object var myObject:Object = new Object(); myObject.primitiveVar1 = "string1";
I'm having some trouble with a flash 5 game I'm making. I'm attempting to make a simple choice game, where there are two input text boxes and each has a different meaning. Similar to url.... One for the smart remarks for a reply to their answer. The other for their score. I want the score added after the correct choice is made. [code]The problem is that I don`t know how to assign variables to the text boxes and the answers so that the score carries over from the last scene.

I want to loop through an array of mc's, and assign each a onRelease function. I have the following code but the trace inside the function doesn't seem to find the array.I understand why but what is the correct way of doing this?
ActionScript Code: var theArray:Array = new Array(); var j:Array = new Array();[code].......
I'm fairly new to AS3. What I'm trying to is create a multiframe SWF (main.swf) that loads several external SWFs (ext.swf) on each frame. I've got that to work. My problem is that I'm trying to assign actions to buttons/MovieClips in the external swfs that navigate to different frames in my main.swf. I want to avoid hard coding the buttons because there are about 30 external SWFs and they don't all have the same number of buttons within them. The approach I took was creating two arrays in each ext.swf, one to hold the button instances and the other to hold the frame destination labels.
Code: var buttons:Array = [link1, link2, link3, link4, link9, link10, link20, link21]; var links:Array = ["c1", "c2", "c3", "c4", "c1", "d1", "d2", "e1"]; Then in the main.swf, I created a function that loads the ext.swf and runs a "for" loop that assigns EventListeners to the contents of the "buttons" array to go to the frame labels defined in the "links" array. [Code] ....... The "for" loop in the "assignLink" processes and traces the "links" array just fine, but it always assigns the last array item to every button.
How can I make a bunch of variables from a for loop. for example for (var i=0; i<total; i++) {var bunch(i);}. that i make a bunch of variables named bunch1, bunch2, bunch3. I keep getting errors. I program and use so many different languages that I dont know if that can be done with AS3. my only other alternative i can think of is to create some sort of event dispatcher object array. but I dont know how to get them all to send events to one listener with there index number.
I am making an audio player app that collects variables based on javascript running on the page. By default it loads 2 mp3s, but I need to be able to re-assign the mp3s that it loads based on different javascript clicks.
I think what I want to do is assign the default 2 songs to variables on file load. Then call a function that re-assigns those variables to the javascript variables passed in. My question is - how do I create a function that only runs on initial load? I assume I could then use javascript to call a different AS3 function to stop the player, re-assign the variables, load the file, and then start it again.
I have an AS3 function that runs when a URLRequest fails. I need to be able to use this function to assign global variables that I can then check against using other functions. How do I assign global variables inside of a function?
Edit:This is the variable (soundFile2Exist) I am trying to get outside of my function:
function onIOError(e:IOErrorEvent):void { var soundFile2exist = null;[code]...............
could anyone help me modify the code for these checkbox components? right now, the SUBMIT button checks which ones of the checkboxes are checked and gets their label, then writes the appropriate labels in a dynamic text box.[code]For the program I am doing, I need to have a maximum of 6 checkmarks and each one of the checked label must go into its own variable. (see gray part of the swf) I would also like the labels to appear in the right order, right now it's inversed.

I want to loop through a movie clip and assign a function to each of the clip's child movieclips. when i do a for...in loop and then do a typeof() trace I get "string" and obviously it won't let me assign lets say 'onRollOver' functions to the children.
Is it possible to use a for loop to "combine" array variables..g.
Actionscript Code: var myArray1:Array = [1, 2, 3]; var myArray2:Array = [1, 2, 3]; for (var i:Number in myArray1 && var i:Number in myArray2) //is something like this possible? { ...
How am i to get the variables zombData.zomb0, & zombData.zomb1 from inside the "for loop"
I want this trace command dynamic
Quote: trace(zombData.zomb+i);
it works when i put zombData.zomb0 (a variable sent from a PHP script)but if i want to make it dynamic how it is; It fails & outputs NaN How do i make it dynamic for the loop?[code]...
I have 24 movie clip buttons. Named "btn1" through "btn24". I can't figure out how to return the variable as a number that cooresponds to each button onRollOver.
i'm trying to use a for loop to generate for me a set of vars, but it's not really working out. =.=.
I'm loading the image file names from a xml, and i want that the for loop create vars like "fotoToLoad0, fotoToLoad1 ..." and load the filename within.
I guessed i had to use the eval command, but as far as my ignorance sees it, when it is used, the eval makes a variable reffer to another and not fill it's value. (I guess i'm wrong thou).
Here's what i've tried so far:
Code: for (i=0; i< totalNodes; i++){ var fotoEnd = imagesXML.firstChild.childNodes[i].firstChild.firstChild; var fotoTemp = eval ('fotoToLoad'+i); fotoTemp = fotoEnd;
That's quite not working thou =(. If i try used 'fotoToLoad1" for example, in a text box it just returns undefined
I used to dynamically set some variables using a FOR loop kinda like so PHP Code:
//Sorry, from memory var possibleValues:Array = ["red","green","blue","yellow"]; for (i=0;i<possibleValues._length;i++){ _root["colorNumber"+i] = possibleValues[i]; }
Second question, using that code in a function would set the variables at the root level making them available throughout the timeline. Without "_root" how do I get that variable available to everything?
I'm trying to get specific variables out of a for each loop. These variables are used to display a click event on a marker on a map. If you click the marker on the map, the details pop over it. Now these details are being overwritten each time the loop starts (50 times). The solution I'm looking for, let's me select a marker on the map with the according detail attached to it.
There might be an easy solution but I haven't found it yet.
The code : for each(artistXML in artistList.events.event)
i'm having trouble creating an image preloader with a loop. my apologies, this might be a very simple task that i've been pulling my hair out over for an hour.
i have 8 UIloaders. each named image1,image2,image3, etc. they are inside a movie clip called "allClips_mc".
