ActionScript 3.0 :: Calling A Loader's Data Dynamically Using Variables?

Oct 25, 2011

I am calling some data from php, which simply retrieves some data from MySQL.  The tables retrieved are called dynamically and so I have a list of those tables sent to actionscript below and called by event.target.data.its and event.target.data.ces.  These will have a list of the tables called.  I then send the name/value pairs to actionscript from php by using those table names (all inside of php here) dynamically.

$sql3 = "SELECT * FROM `specialties`";
$getit = mysql_query($sql3);
while($row2 = mysql_fetch_array($getit)){
for($i=0;$i<sizeof($itlist);$i++){

ActionScript 3.0 :: Test If Loader Has A Stream Loading Before Calling The Close() Function?

Nov 4, 2009

I'm loading an image into a container. The container is simply a loader object with a progress event listener and a complete event listener. It is loaded when a thumb is clicked in the gallery and it displays the image larger.Basically it is possible to interrupt the loading process of the current load stream and load something else by clicking another thumb in the gallery before it's complete.

If you call loader.close() when nothing is loading, Flash will call back an error saying that there is no stream attached to the loader object.Is there a way to test if the loader object is presently loading, and if so to close it?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Load Data From Different Variables - The New Variables Come Back As Undefined?

Jun 15, 2010

I'm writing code that takes data from mysql that's processed by a PHP script. It's actually a bit bizarre, at least to me. Anyway, here's some basic AS3 code that's moving toward what I want to do:

var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
var urlRequest:URLRequest=new URLRequest("receive.php");
urlRequest.method=URLRequestMethod.GET;[code]....

For some reason, the statement "trace(evt.target.data);" produces a whole pile of garbled text before the actual stuff that it's supposed to show Because of problem #1, I've had to include a throwaway variable at the beginning, otherwise the first variable I try to pass into AS3 comes back as undefined. This causes errors when I run my flash movie in the IDE, but when I run it from the browser it doesn't seem to have any effect.But this is the strangest thing of all whenever I make any changes to the database (and subsequently try to load data from different variables), the new variables come back as undefined. For example, let's say that I add another entry to the database, and decide to load students 2, 3, and 4 instead of 1, 2, and 3. When I do that, any new data I've added comes back as undefined, even though when I view the PHP output in my browser, it looks just fine.

And now for the REALLY bizarre part: I'll copy that output, paste it into my PHP script as an echo statement, comment everything else out, and my flash movie runs fine. Even though the output from the PHP script is exactly the same, it gives me errors.

AS3 :: CS3 - Calling Variables From Other Functions

Aug 20, 2009

If I have a function and I want to call a variable from another function (only 1variable), how do I do it? I know in the olden days you could set the variable to local or global, but that does not seem to work anymore. There is only 1 variable I need access to, but all the tutorials I have come across talk about making classes for multiple variables.

e.g. function2();
{
variable_b = variable_a;
}

ActionScript 3.0 :: Calling Movieclips Using Variables?

Apr 18, 2010

I have a series of movieclips stored in the .fla library

Clip1 (class: clip1)
Clip2 (class: clip2)
Clip3 (class: clip3)
Clip4 (class: clip4)
Clip5 (class: clip5)

I want to be able to add each clip to the stage using a function where the number is a variable that can be added to the "Add movieclip" statement.

For example:

var x:Number = 1;
var "Clip" + x:"clip"+x = new "clip" + x();

so that the program inteprets the above as:

var Clip1:clip1 = new clip1();
addChild(Clip1);

This was the only way I could think of adding a movieclip to a stage. I am open to any other option. I hope this was clear. I don't have any code to post because I'm just trying to work through the logic of the program. Adding movieclips to the stage when the name of the movieclip has a variable in it, is the part I am stuck on.

I would like to be able to create and call an Array dynamically. So to pass a name through a function and create an array based on that name.Then to store values into sections in the array. I got the creating the array dynamically working, but I can't seem to store into it.

Code:
Sort = function (numOfVars,Name,toSort){
This works
_global[Name] = New Array(New Array (),New Array());
This does not work
_global[Name][i][c]= 3
This does not work
_global[Name + "[i][c]"]= 3
This does not work
_global[[Name][i][c]]= 3

Php :: Flash - Calling Script With UTF-8 POST Variables?

Jun 8, 2010

AS3 documentation says that Strings in AS3 are in UTF-16 format.There is a textbox on a Flash Clip where user can type some data.When a button is clicked, I want this data to be sent to a php script.I have everything set up, but it seems that the PHP script gets the data in UTF-16 format. The data in the database (which is utf-8) shows some unrecognizable characters (where special characters are used), meaning that the data has not been sent in a correct encoding.

var varSend:URLRequest=new URLRequest("http://website.com/systematic/accept.php");

ActionScript 3.0 :: Calling An Instance's Variables Directly?

Jul 21, 2009

I have two classes a main and one controlling a cloud graphic going on the stage. In the main class I am creating an instance of the cloud, adding it to the stage with an array and with a for loop I am setting the x speed (vx). I have noticed that if I set the vx in the cloud class and reference it directly then it does not work (clouds are drawn for a millisecond then a blank movie). I have to initialize the cloud.vx value in the main class to get it to work. Why can I not just pull the vx value from the cloud class without setting it to a value in the main class?

Actionscript 3.0 :: Calling A Dynamically Generated, Nested Mc

Jul 19, 2009

So basically my file is a photo gallery. There are two ways to click through the photos - the previous/next buttons or the camera icons on the floor plan diagram. The cameras are dynamically generated from XML, into a cameraHolder mc.

I have the controls working independently, but I need to have them working together (ie: if you click the previous/next buttons, the camera icons would change state) I don't have all the over/selected/visited states working yet, but I don't really need help with that.

What I really need to be able to do is figure out how to call the camera icon clips. See line 138 for where I tried to trace one: trace(cameraHolder.camera0); It returns as undefined.?

Also is is possible to call a mc where part of the name is a variable? For example, you'd call something like "camera" + whoIsOn instead of camera0?

FYI: this file is definitely a work in progress. I kind of slapped together two examples to get what I currently have...

how to call the methods from classes with variables set from the XML file:

This calls the function perfectly.

I was wondering if there is anyway to pass parameters into the function as well through variables.  Some functions may have no parameters, some functions could have 5... so the xml could be like this:

ActionScript 2.0 :: MovieClip Loader And Passing Variables

var myMCL:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
var myPreloader:Object = new Object();myMCL.addListener(myPreloader);
for (var i:Number=0; i<myImagesTotal; i++) {

The problem is everytime I click on the image_mc, it traces "undefined". I need to know the value of "image_mc.main" when I click the image_mc. The "main" variable should be the "i", which is the number of loops. On the loop, it traces correctly, but when I put it on the onRelease function, it traces undefined.

ActionScript 2.0 :: SetInterval Parameters - Dynamically Calling Function

Jun 27, 2007

I have a function gameTimerInterval() set to run every half second. Every x of those intervals (the value of x varies in this situation), it creates another interval that calls the function birdTimerInterval() every y of these new intervals. Basically, gameTimerInterval() determines when a new flock of birds will enter, and then birdTimerInterval() controls how each individual bird in the flock comes in (one at a time). The thing is, there can be multiple flocks coming on the stage at the same time, so birdTimerInterval() will need to receive a parameter so it knows which group of birds to control. The only way I could see achieving this is doing something like dynamically passing the name of the interval that's calling the function, as I don't know how I could use global variables or arrays to distinguish which flock should be moving.
