i want to create a keyboard-controlled "wasd" game with proper hitdetection,doing this tilebased is no feat and is pretty straightforward.But say i want to do this in the fashion for a game like WoW, and things quickly starts getting trickier.How would i resolve something like this with AS3? One possible solution would be to implement Box2D, but since I'm planning to make a rich 3d-game, the question is whether 2d collision-detection will be sufficient. What options are there for collision-detection in AS3 if the aim is to create a game with similar mechanics to WoW?

1) I wan't to do a fullscreen videoplayer that listens to the keyboard and that plays a videoclip on demand. I will not use menues or onscreen buttons.
 
It should work almost like a Video DJ application or a audio sampleplayer but for video. So; when I press any one of maybe ten keys the corresponding videoclip should be played.
 
I intend to run this locally using Flash player hence not on a browser or on internet so I'm not really limited by bandwidth. I'm on CS4 Flash Professional.
 
2) Is there a IDE, a runtime development enviroment, for Flash aimed for AS? Despite working on a daily basis with digital media  for many years incl. coding in php, javascipt, asp.net, etc I still have a tough  time understanding Flash and AS3.

3) A part from traditional keyboard input is there a way for Flash and/or Flashplayer to listen to an non-standard USB input, say a touchpad, joystick etc?

I realize that this question can start a discussion but that's really not my intention. We've created a Flex Application to take tests from candidates. The advantage of the Flex Application is that all state can be stored in the application running in the browser of the client. Things like time limits, navigation, scoring, ... can all be handled within the application without us having to worry about a back button for instance. Even running the app offline with Adobe Air isn't that hard.

My question now is if such an application could easily be made with HTML, Javascript, Ajax, ... ? The reason I'm asking is because an application in HTML would be much easier to distribute on Mobile devices for instance. Also, our domain model for instance is mostly implemented in AS3 (Flex) so using it along the server side means porting it to C#.NET. (with two codebases as a result).

how to create the proper Actionscript code that will control the Alpha Transparency of a MC I want as a preloader. I want the MC to start of at 100% alpha-transparency, and then decrease to 0% alpha-transparency when the whole Scene is loaded. Also, it should show the precentage of the Scene loaded. I have the code that I thought would work to control the alpha transparency of the mc and loading it. But, I get confused with the perloader code to incorporate into the alpha transparency code? Does this make sense; is it possible?In Leaman's Terms, As the scene loads, the mc goes from invisible to visible at completion of the scene load.

Now, I have no idea if and where you'd include the poper code to control the mc's alpha transparency based on the percentage of the scene loaded? Can someome maybe rework the code to make this work. And use a working example, that way I see it working to fully understand the concept? The mc's instance name is "sm_logo". Where would I use the instance name in this code, or better yet the proper code alltogether?

I am trying to create a simple resizable triangle that can be controlled by 3 handles on the 3 corners. However I also want the other handles to change their position based on how the length of a specific line changes. On the updateScreen function Ive created, I calculate the change in the length of a specific line depending on which handle is selected. I also calculate the point that is in the center of the triangle. As the length of a specific line increases/decreases, I want the opposite point to get closer/farther from the center of the triangle. Here is some example code from the .fla.

i have created a game that uses keyboard input,the code below doesnt seem to work when i use keyboard letter such as 'a' or 'k' yet will work if i try '1'when i am in flash and press the letter keys they are still accessing the flash program and not the swf as i can see different things in flash being highlighted behind the swf.so what i think i need is a way to make it so that the keyboard letters are activated in the swf any help?[code]

I'm trying to let my ship move with WASD.I've got it to work with the arrow keys, no problem.It seems to be the problem that my event isn't triggered when i press W, A, S or D. Because,when i place a trace(event.keyCode), it doesn't trace anything.I'm using this within a class.Here's my (part of the) code:

I mean, if u are holding down shift+d+f the final key f doesn't work bec. of keyboard buffer. etc. If someone know what kind of keys are the best match for flash 2 player game post them here please. So when like 6 keys are pressed at one time, the last keys pressed, will still work. And player won't get stuck.

I am making a game and I have run into a problem where I need to reclick on the game with the mouse for it to recognize keyboard input. I know having to click on the flash game once is normal, but whenever my game restarts (goes to the first level) I have to reclick on it or they keyboard input does not work. How do I resolve this? Is there a way to request the attention of the keyboard or something?

im trying to create a tamagotchi game type game. For some reason i can not add any items to the stage.Currently i have imported 2 png images to the stage and coverted them to movie clips. One is called TamagotchiCharacter and the other is called Beer. I have also created a new 2 AS3.0 script class called TamagotchiGame and DraggableItem. The following is TamagotchiGame:

I have a challenge in a flash movie with TabIndex that involves some pretty comprehensive keyboard functionality and have solved the problem but the client is not madly happy with the solution. Problem is I don't know whether there is another way of solving it.

I've built a app the allows the user to upload a picture and manipulate it using marker placement. You can either drag the markers with the mouse or using tabIndex can tab through them then, once highlighted, you can move each marker up, down, left and right using the WASD keys.

I thought this was a nice solution since gamers are familiar with WASD to move directionally, however the client wants to use the arrow keys for this function. The problem resides in the fact that within the tabindex the arrow keys act in the same way as the tab, in that they tab forward or back through the index.

Client suggest tabbing to marker, clicking ENTER to disable tabbing, using the arrows to move the marker, then clicking ENTER again to re-enable the tabbing, move to the next marker, click ENTER to disable... etc etc.

I'm starting work on a midi piano game in flash. I have my midi keyboard hooked in through the USB. Now I've been told that there is some way to get flash to read any kind of input but I am not sure on how. Basically all that will happen is that u hit a key on the piano and a box shows up of random color. Longer u hold a key bigger it gets. Each key will have different box assigned to it. I think I could handle everything but I'm stuck on the first step and that is getting flash to read the Piano key presses.

I'm trying to make an onscreen keyboard for one of the programs I wrote. With this flash program you can type Persian in any program. It uses a special kind of font. So I first mapped all the characters like:

Now this program works perfectly when somebody actually uses the keyboard. Now I added an on screen keyboard. (buttons for each alphabet) but I don't seem to be able to somehow tell flash to type alphabet "be" for example and keep the conditions too! The text field is called "textF".

Everything going well so far except for camera control. I want the character to always be in the center of the screen. only when the side boundaries are reached, the character should leave the center of the screen to be able to reach the sides of the screen.Somewhat like this: http:[url]....I've tried 2 ways but both without succes:

- move the character using the keyboard, but somehow keep it in the center of the screen (have no idea on this one)

- move the entire area except the character to simulate movement.

This seems kind of ineffeciant but it worked out better that the previous attempt, the only problem is that the character doesn't return to the center of the screen when he leaves the boundary.The .fla's are available for download here http:[url]....

the actionscript is all in the first frame.try not to be too hard on the crappy visuals Ignore the comments too, theyre only there to help me understand what I did.The boundaries seem to be a bit sketchy aswell when moving to the sides, but that's not a big problem right now.

I am at uni and have a project to create an interactive game for the story Johnny Mnemonic. I would like to create a game whereby the player has a whip type weapon, there is an opponent jumping up and down and with the whip you attack them and cut off limbs -

I'm thinking it would be like a simple shooting ducks style game in terms of coding, the player has visible just a hand with the whip in it, you move the whip to your desired location click chosen button to hit, the whip then animates a flick, if it hits correct spot on bouncing opponent then an animation of the limb flying off happens, so the bouncing opponent is like the duck and the whip like the gun - if that is right at all?
