Jan 3, 2012Say, I have an array of movie clips (dummies). Each dummy has an event listener and reacts to clicks. And when a dummy is clicked, I want to know the index of the clicked dummy.
I've only come up with this solution: run through the whole array of dummies and find out which dummy is the target, then exit the 'for' cycle and assign some global variable the value of counter variable, but this way the application I am building will demontsrate poor performance.

May 20, 2011So, I'm creating a fairly basic overhead 2d game where users can "draw" a map. (Actually, they dont draw it, the manually input a list of x/y's, but the design aspect isnt important just now.) When a new tile is added, that tile goes into an array of all tiles ingame. The centrepoint is 0,0. Tiles can be added in all directions, so may be at 1,1 or 100,100 or -50,-50. Sometimes I want to determine what tile is at a location. One (imho bad) way of doing this would be to get the x/y and loop through all tiles and check if they are that location.
The way I'm currently doing it is to have a seperate 2d array of null elements, and when a tile is added, its set at that array. (ie tilemap[10][10] = tile[100]) Of course, because the values can go negative, tilemap [0][0] is actually the -1000/-1000 tile. (chosen as an arbitrary limit) Is there a better way of doing this? I feel like using a massive array of mostly empty objects could be more optimal.

Nov 2, 2009I have loaded swf with an object 'Page'. A 'Page' object is created and a reference to it is added to an array 'pa'.
I have a 2nd loaded swf that then has a reference to the 'pa' array (I don't think this matters but I mention it just in case)
I want to cycle through the array and determine when I get to a Page object. Where I run into problems is trying to compile the class that does this.

When the dates come from dynamics text itīs no problem, bad when come from input text the dates are treated like strings and itīs impossible to order correctly, because 15 is considered less than 3. I am checking this array of numbers to see if any exist in the same 'row'Say I have already drawn 61,62 and 63. I don't want this to 'return as true' when I check the array because yes the numbers exist but there is a gap (the numbers arSo I would like to accept if I had 68, 69, 70 because they are sequential from 68 but if I also have 72 I don't wish to accept that number.

Sep 25, 2011I am working on a flashvars script that is reading various types of name/value pairs. I have NO control over the flashvars. I would like to write a dynamic script that parses the data into arrays depending upon the names of the name/value pairs...so the names of one type will be head0, head1, head2, etc and the names of another type will be color0, color1, color2, etc.I finally got the script working so that it pulls only the types of names and values I want, but it is putting the values in the array out of order. So, instead of the values for head0, head1, head2, head3 it is putting the values in this order: head1, head0, head3, head2. That is the exact order. What am I doing wrong! I am only using one of the variables right now for simplicity - head. Here is the code:

But make it sparse and it all goes to hell... i.e. if a[0] isn't defined, cases where you're using it as a piece of useful information, there's no guarantee they'll spit out in the same order.On the other hand, if you make it an object, you can't get its length.Does anyone know an elegant way to poll an Array for the number of occupied addresses, and allow it to for/each or for/as in the right order? In PHP it's as easy as count() and foreach(... as $k=>$v). While the latter doesn't do much good for associative arrays, it always works in order on numerical arrays, whether sparse or not...

When examined in the FB4 debugger, the keys look like this:[code]The first two items are numeric (cast to string) but the third item in the multi-part delimited key is naturally a string -- it's like an alphanumeric library shelf reference. As expected, when you click on the [+] icon in the debugger, you can view the object associated with that string key. So far so good.The debugger shows the keys in the (pre-sorted) order in which they were added to the array. However, when iterating the object array so:[code]the keys are returned in some other order --internal hash? My question is, how does the debugger know the order the keys were added in, and can I access that knowledge at runtime when iterating the array? I want to iterate the objects in the order in which they were added. Or do I need to maintain my own index of these keys showing the order they were added to the associative array?

1. Is assigning variable names to checkboxes and radio buttons the same as in visual basic? I mean i know that you probably assign them in the properties. ex..say i name a radio button 'radio1', to run a check in my actionscript whether radio1 was checked or not would it be something like if(radio1){}

May 4, 2009We generate a LOT of swfs where I work. We've got a group of people managing putting the swfs into our asset management system. These people do NOT have flash or anything adobe. However, they need to be able to determine the AS setting on the swfs. Is there a tool (preferably cheap or even free) that can be used to determine the Actionscript level of a swf?
