ActionScript 3.0 :: Game: Character Walks Around And Stops Walking When Hits A Hole?
Jul 7, 2011
I have a game where the character walks around the screen and stops if she hits a wall or a hole etc... - typical. HOWEVER - I coudn't get her to stop walking. Is there any standard code for this. If you tell to stop walking then she can't walk back out either etc... Also, she walked into the hole a little so being in the hole she definately couldn't walk any more not even back out as she would be walking inside the prohibited zone.
I am currently making a platformer game but I can't seem to get a walking animation for my character. So far I have made a character which can move fine. Inside the characters movie clip are 2 frames (one standing and one walking) Now my problem is that I can get my character to move right and play the walking animation but when I walk left the walking animation doesn't play but the character still moves. I am using action script 2 and flash pro 8
onClipEvent (load) { var ground:MovieClip = _root.ground; var grav:Number = 0; var gravity:Number = 2; var speed:Number = 7; [Code] .....
I have a MC linked with AS called char. And the problem is this, the char is supose to walk towards the mouse when i click the mouse. But now the problem is that the MC never stops. It just walks and often in wrong direction.
var speed = 5; var aim = "crsSword"; var Move = false;[code].....
I m under the process to create a platform based game,but stuck in a problem ,its probably concern with x-axis, actually my player stops certain distance before right wall and with left wall too,i tried to reduce the distance but end up in failure,i have attached the concern fla.
I am trying to make my character look as he is walking around on the stage. I can make him, but what do I to make move his arms and legs? Also, I want the character walking animation when one of the keys is pressed, and stop walking when that same key is released. I have looked and looked with google and I can't seem to find the answer
Wanting to be able to move multiple characters around a map (one at a time)First selecting them either by keyboard shortcut of by clicking them.then being able to move them with WASD of by clicking the mouse to a certain position on the map and the character would move in that direction.
Well, basically i need to make my game so my mc doesnt fall through the ground when he jumps or walks, coz so far all he does is jump, then fall through the floor.
I am trying to make a walking animation for a character with customizable parts. I can't seem to get this code to work correctly:
[Code]...
playerStance defines if the character is idle or walking, in this case walkingchar is a MC containing 2 frames : idle and walk (the frames contain MC:s for the current animation, in this case charwalk)charwalk contains 2 keyframes and the others are filler frames, the keyframes in this case are 1 and 16charwalk contains layers for all of the character parts, for example bottom1 (is located in frame 1)all of the parts contain frames for every variation of that partin every frame of the parts is a code : stop(); to prevent them from playing when I gotoAndPlay charwalkWhen I play this and update the parts after changing parameters, the algorithm returns a right value, but the parts don't go to the correct frames. Instead they are kept in the first frame.
here i have a zipped fla file where i have problem with the character still wallking when road scrolling reach the end of the screen.how would i stop that?heres script:
I'm on a very big scale project and it is a game. What I need done is a walking version, but not just some easy script for it. It's like there are 545 diffrent buttons in my game, and each other has a diffrent location. Now what I want to do is to use a function for moving between them. Here is an example screenshot of the location where you can move: http:[url].....The numbers aren't there in the real game off course, it's for the button number. Now what I want to do is that you click the button, and the move function is called. The function should be like:
- The movieclip that should move is a player, instance name is 'character'
- You move to the x and y positions of the button you've clicked.
- The movement speed should be a variable, you make the name up, just be sure I can edit it by changing 1 value
- The character must move through a good line, meaning if you are at position #16 and you want to go to 31, it first goes to 32 and then to 31 and not directly to 31
- There's a big Array (its called _root.takenArray ) and it checks Every spot where you have to move to (if you move from 16 to 31 it checks 31 and 32) it checks if the values of _root.takenArray[31] and _root.takenArray[32] are not bigger than 1 - If you're moving to 31 from 16 and _root.takenArray[32] (in other words, spot 32) is taken, it tries to find another route, like through 15 and then to 31. If there is one, it follows that route.
- If they are bigger than 1, The moving action shouldn't be done, if they aren't bigger than 1, move the player
All the spots of above are positioned like in http://vert.2webh.com/all.jpg
That's all. Sounds complicated doesn't it? Well I'm pretty advanced at actionscript and I couldn't manage to make it work.
I've got a problem with a game I am creating, I want a movie clip to play once when my character hits it, it has a stop function at the end of the movie clip, but as long as the character is on top of it, it continues to loop, how do I get it to stop at the last frame? Here is the script applied to the movie clip:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) { if (this.hitTest(_root.bubMC)) { play(); } }
All I've been able to do was make the last frame extremely long and load an alternate movieclip without the hittest function applied that runs the animation.Essentially, I am asking, "How do I make a piece of actionscript run only once", like:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) { if (this.hitTest(_root.bubMC)) { play(ONLY ONCE BUT AFTER THAT DON'T DO IT AGAIN); } }
am pretty new to Kirupa and Flash. I have a little problem, concerning a character hitting a wall. What i have: a char that can jump and move around by the arrow keys. What i need: character shall stop movement if he hits a geometry. But being able to start movement again, besides through the geometry. I'd like to reach this with gskinners CheckForCollision class. Have a look here: [URl] But i didnt manage my code to get it work. So maybe you could leak me some information on how to get this done. Heres my code so far:
[Code]...
edit admits: so far i have a character mc called "player" and one called "level". i would apply the code to the player, and it would be cool to have the possibility to check collision of the player with multiple MCs, not only the level.
I was trying to make a game, and the character inside the game could swim. However, I only wanted him to swim in short bursts that refueled every time he hit the ground.
It's about the "Game Character Dialogues", It is used to instruct the user what to do, like what you see in BookWorm or Diner DAsh.I used dynamic text fields to generate these dialogues,but as I continued doing it. I found myself stuck.I have no idea on how to change the words when the "next" button is clicked. there will be no previous button. but the dialogue will replay when the character is clicked.
I'm trying to program this code: public function enemiesDie(){ enemyLoop: for (var k:int = enemies.length -1;k>= 0; k--){ bulletLoop: for (var i:int = bullets.length -1; i>=0; i--){ if (enemies[k].hitTestObject(bullets[i])){ trace("hit"); [Code] ....
To detect when a bullet hits an enemy in a game I'm trying to make and I get this error: TypeError: Error #1006: hitTestObject is not a function. at Space_Hooligans/enemiesDie() at Space_Hooligans/gameLoop()
I tried almost everything to make my character stop when it detects a wall. It only works for UP and RIGHT or DOWN and LEFT but not all 4 directions, so only one y movement and one x movement. So I decided to make 4 functions, one for each direction. But then it only works when the left key is pressed and hits a wall.
What do I have to do to make the collision detection stop the character from moving in all 4 directions?
var leftArrow:Boolean; var upArrow:Boolean; var rightArrow:Boolean;
What is the best way to set up a game where I can customize my character? I want to be able to let the user select the clothes, skin color, hair style, etc, and then run a preset animation with that character in it, but am unsure how to set this up in Flash other than building a bunch of buttons with all of the possible options (too time consuming and I bet there's a better way).

I seem to be going round in circles. I am making a little game with a character, I want it so when you pressed left and up it goes left and up at the same time. Does any one know how to do this?
I'm sorry if this is the wrong section. But I'm looking for help with my actionscript coding. I'm fairly new to Flash. I've only scripted some simple websites so far and this is the first time I try to make a flash game. I started yesterday but I'm already having problems with my script.
I have a scene with 2 layers: one with my character and one with the bounds (ground, ceiling and walls).
Inside my character movie clip, I have this: Which is basically a bunch of frames labeled and with the action to stop();. Each one containing another movie clip with the respective animations. So the idea was, when I press "A", jump to "walk left". And it kinda worked, but I have some problems and I'm not really sure how to solve them.
I want to know how to make a character attack in a game. I've made a platformer game in which a character moves and jumps and collects the score balls, but the only thing I can't do is make him hit enemies.
I want to make a fighting game with my own character skins and those of my friends as a fun thing.I'd like it to have an intro, menu, character select, level select. I'd like the levels to be able to scroll and for the characters to have health metres. So what I am looking for is either a tutorial to build this up, or be able to look at a completed one and take it apart. I'll be able to handle the art on my own.
Is it possible to make 3D character customization for game in flash? Any ideas, tips about that?. In 2D it's very simple but i don't know where i should begin in 3D. First of all - how character customization works in rpg games? Is character body and all cusomizable parts like hair face, solid model? Or it's just different objects in one container?
1. How do I prevent my scuba diver from leaving the screen? As when i hold either up, down, left or right long enough he will leave the stage entirely.2. How can I make my sharks enter the screen at random rather than having them enter from the same position each time? Here is my code:
So I have a MC character and have him moving with the arrows. Now there are multiple(5) frames inside of this MC. Walk Animation(which is the first frame in the MC), Standing Animation, etc. So when I hit left arrow he walks and the walk animation cycles. BUT!!! When I crouch, etc. It doesn't loop the animation it just sits on a still image (as if I did not have an animation on that frame). What am I doing wrong?The code i'm using after my if statement is gotoAndStop(frame)Within each MC there are more MC's and so on, I don't know if this screws with it.Here is an FLA, the code is partly me but ultimately from disastamaans tutorial(on the kongregate website) for basic platforming. I'm just trying to learn right now.Forgot to add that currently I have a total of five frames.1 Animated-walk2 Animated-stand3 Animated-jump4 Animated-crouch5 Animated-crouch walkThose are my five frames, and 1,2, and 3 work fine, only 4 and 5 won't animate?
I've been struggling with making boundaries with my game. I've managed to make boundaries, but in stead of my game character not moving across that border it just bounces back. Which is not the effect I want.
Here's my code onClipEvent (enterFrame) { if (Key.isDown(Key.LEFT)) { xspeed -= power; } if (Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT)) { xspeed += power; [Code] .....
I am developing an isometric game but I want the user to be able to see all sides of their character. Is it possible to import a 3d model into an actionscript (flash)? Also is this a good idea? Or should I stick with the basic 2d sprite idea?
I am really new with flash and yet I needed to construct a simple one level game. What I have now is kinda similar to pacman but a bit different. 1) Lets say, like pacman, the user's character need to pick up things in the maze. but instead of the items are already there, i would like to have some already there and then when the user pass the path, some will randomly appear in the maze. e.g : like the fruits that will randomly appear in pacman. 2) How to make the bad character constantly chase the user's character throughout the game. only one bad character in this game chasing.
just wondering if anyone can help me with this I'm making a platform game and wanted to make my game character run when user press the keyboard left or right. But I want my character to run like an actual person instead of just sliding across the screen. I have no idea where to start and I can only find tutorial that teach how to make a character move by just using - or + number of pixels but that's not what I'm actually looking for. I prefer that my game character to be more lively. Does anyone know how??
