ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Take The Volume Of A Sound Spoken Into A Microphone?

Apr 4, 2011

I'm working on a project for my Flash class that seems to be above everyone's heads.  What I'm trying to do is figure out how to take sound from a microphone, register the level/volume of that sound in flash.  So if the level is 25 then a movieclip and a different sound is played back.  Problem is I don't know what coding I can use to register a microphone and take whatever sound is put into the microphone and display a movieclip.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Recording Sound Through Microphone Onto Local Disk

Feb 22, 2011

I am currently an English teacher and I am familiar with programming in DOT.Net platform. I am completely new to Flash. I turned to this platform because I thought that would be the best way to prepare interactive computer based exams in English. My real problem is, I don't have the slightest idea as to how I can create a Flash application which records the sound through the microphone and saves it on the local disk.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Get Access To Sound Samples Coming From A Microphone?

May 27, 2011

way to get access to sound samples coming from a microphone ?

So far I have not found such a function. In the meantime I am trying to overload alsa functions e.g: snd_pcm_readi to see if I can get the samples before flash treats them, but no success so far.

As a matter of fact, since I have no idea how both sound and microphone class work internally, I don't know exactly which alsa functions they call.

I am trying to animate a mask over a sound meter according to the activityLevel of the microphone. If I understood what's in the livedocs, the activity level is the amount of sound captured by the microphone, right? well, I'm trying to use it in order to do the animation but I have two problems:

Media Server :: Microphone Activity Level At -1 Even Though Microphone.getMicrophone() Is Called, Why?

Oct 7, 2009

I'm setting up an application where I need to record users' voice every so often during the course of the users' interaction with the application.  Recording is fine, and the quality is fine, but now my issue is understandng how Flash handles the microphone when it gets attached to a stream for publishing.Basically, the problem is that when I "publish" my stream, the voice gets cut off (clipped) at the beginning.  So, I initially thought this may have to do with buffer settings on the FMS server side, but it wasn't. Then I investigated client side stuff.  For some reason, my internal mic .activityLevel property is -1 even though I have called Microphone.getMicrophone().  According to Flash's documentation, this shouldn't be the case:

activityLevel    propertyactivityLevel:Number  [read-only]Language Version :     ActionScript 3.0Player Version :     Flash Player 9The amount of sound the microphone is detecting. Values range from 0 (no sound is detected) to 100 (very loud sound is detected). The value of this property can help you determine a good value to pass to the Microphone.setSilenceLevel() method.If the microphone is available but is not yet being used because Microphone.getMicrophone() has not been called, this property is set to -1.I am using a timer to investigate the microphone .activityLevel property every 50 milliseconds:

package
{
import fl.controls.Button;
import fl.controls.TextInput;[code].....

Handle Cue Points In An Audio File (from Microphone)?

Mar 30, 2011

I'd like to record audio from a microphone and I'd like the user to be able to add cue points during the recording so when he loads the file afterwards, he can jump easily to a specific position.

I don't really know what file format I should use and how to store the metadata (cue points)

I thought about

encoding a wav/mp3 and stores metadata in a .cue file (easy to do but 2 files to store)storing XMP data in a mp3 file (seems a bit harder but standard metadata embedded in 1 file)flv/f4v with audio only and standard cue points but I'm not sure I can create them directly from the client

Flash :: Recording And Saving Sounds To File NOT From The Microphone?

Feb 3, 2012

I am trying to create a Flash application(more like a game) where a user can add sounds to a timeline and then play the resulting "song". That is not really hard to do, and the resulting track can be saved and played within my app, but the problem is that I would like to export the created track as a .wav(or .mp3). I know that recording from a microphone with MicRecorder is possible and then the record can be exported with WaveEncoder, but I didn't find a way to create a custom sound stream from multiple sounds and than export it. Is this possible?

Actionscript 3 :: HTML: Start Sound Playback From URL Mid-file Without Buffering All Sound Data To That Point?

Nov 21, 2010

I have a long mp3 file hosted on a standard apache server (30 minutes long so far, but I would like it to work with longer sounds too).I'd like to start playback of this audio within at a specified point. When attempting to use Flash Actionscript 3, my basic tests show that ALL the audio from the start to the position I choose is buffered before playback (Sound.bytesLoaded was my friend here). If I start one second in, it takes about 3 seconds to start playback, 30 seconds in, takes about 25 secondsObviously with a really long mp3, like skipping playback to the middle of a 3-hour audiobook, this isn't going to be practical.Here's the ActionScript 3.0 code I'm using:

button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, function():void {
var s:Sound = new Sound();
var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://example.com/audio.mp3");

ActionScript 3.0 :: Playing A Sound File And Graphic Positioning In The Same File

Dec 15, 2009

I have a problem that I have not found a syntax error or logic error to explain. It appears to be an obscure problem related to playing a sound file and graphic positioning in the same file. My next step is to look for any known bugs. I have posted the file at. URL] When the page loads you will see a list of selections. Do not click any of the html Play buttons In the graphic arrow pointing to the right is the play button click it and a default file will start. Click the pause button (which will be green while the selection plays) Then click the play button again. The knob that moves while the song plays, will begin moving from the position it was at the time pause was clicked.

Click the stop button (arrow facing left with vertical line at tip) Choose a selection from the html list by clicking the Play button next to it. Then click the play button in the player display. The title of selection will appear in the title area. repeat the original steps (play, pause, play) This time the knob that moves while song plays, snaps back to the start and moves from start, rather than from the pausedposition.

Flash :: Detect If A New Microphone Is Available?

Jun 1, 2011

It appears that if one has a mic available, then one can add an event listener for the StatusEvent. However, this only tells you if the mic has been allowed or disallowed.

What I'd really like to do is detect if the static Microphone.names property changes. I would have expected this property to be bindable.

If I right click and select "settings" immediately after plugging in a mic, I can see that flash has updated their list of available microphones. However, there seems to be no way in code for me to receive the same update.

The docs say "Calling Microphone.names requires an extensive examination of the hardware, and it may take several seconds to build the array." So I think polling this every few seconds is not a feasible option.
