View 4 RepliesRight now my stage dimensions are 980 X 800 px. I need to cut or "crop out" the bottom portion of the footer because its height is too long. So I changed the stage dimensions to 980 X 600 px (and changed the corresponding dimensions in the embed tag in the index.html file to match). Doing this seems to cut out the bottom but at the same time adds space to the top and seems to distort the overall spacing. Is there a simple way to crop out the bottom of the stage (just like cropping out a section of a photo)?
View 5 RepliesI have done this a million times in AS but not quite getting it in AS3.. maybe my brain is just fried..i have a rectangle_MC that is moving around the stage.. inside that rectanlge_MC i want to constantly redraw the stage, well only the portion of the stage that is covered by the rectangle..o if my rectangle for instance is currently at x:60 and y:80, and its demensions are 200x200, want it to redraw just the ares of the stage that starts a x:60, y:80 and goes to x:260 and y:280..

I've been looking around like a forensic scientist piecing together information for my latest project. Basically I need to display a particular webpage within my flash file... Now I know flash can display simple HTML, but nothing complex and nothing from an external source... BUT I know flash can also handle PHP - obviously. The text works great when I view the .swf, but when I place the .swf in a web page the text no longer appears. I'm using loadVariables("text.txt", ""); in my ActionScript and text.txt is located in the same directory. I have embedded the fonts and I'm using Flash CS5 and I have selected Classic Text/Dynamic Text.
View 2 RepliesI want to design a web page that will display a visual aid representing real time data. Real time for me means updating at least every few seconds, or literally realtime/event based if that is possible. The data displayed will be displayed in a rather visual/graphical way rather than simple text or a table.
I do not have a lot of knowledge of web development other than a little knowledge of HTML, so I do not know what options are available to create a web page that does what I want. My search has seemed to point towards Flash as being the technology best suited to do this, but I have also seen several articles which caution against flash (but mention no alternative).
The main alternative contender instead of Flash seems to be Comet style programming which I understand would likely utilize (in my case at least) a system called "long polling" to update data regularly. This could work, however the nature of the way I would like the information displayed leads me to believe that flash might be better than this as it sounds like longpolling is well suited for simple display of text inofrmation based on results, whereas I will need certain details of the visual display to change as well depending on results.
My research has also lead me to believe that an ASP.NET or PHP page would almost do what I want, but my understanding is that these two frameworks'/ languages' purpose is more along the lines of generation of a unique web page when loading rather than updating it as someone is looking at it.To make sure it is clear: communiciation is COMPLETELY one way in my imaginary web page. the user's display needs to update but they in no way send data back.What tools are best suited to create a webpage which will update/display (in a visual manner) data in real time in as someone is viewing it?

after finding this article: How does facebook, gmail send the real time notification?, I am thinking Comet could still be a really good option as I can just use it really as the messenger of events rather than having the direct result displayed as text or something. Still looking for advice on which way may be easier though due to my impression that Flash may be easier to program the graphics in a dynamic way.
why when I place something on the stage it does not match up on the web page. Do I have to set the co-ordinates of the item for it to appear in the correct place on a web page.

I am creating an animation with sound.The sound syncs with objects.Everytime I synch an object with a sound, I test the animation out by hitting cmd+enter.Is there a way to only test out a certain portion?It's a big time waste to test the whole animation every single time.
View 3 RepliesThe problem is not playing part of an mp3, I know that can be done. But I'd like to cut down on bandwidth by loading a specified two-minute portion of each mp3. These files can be up to 20mb, and since users will play many of these songs (and probably move on after a minute or two of listening), it would be very inefficient to load the whole mp3. Can this be done or is there another method you can suggest? Possibly a server side script that slices and/or lowers the mp3's bitrate?

I have a Template that I bought for a client that wanted it. It has background looping music and my customer wants to add videos (FLV), no problem. Now she wants the background music to sop when the FLVs are playing and start when I exit the FLV and go to another portion of the site. I hope I am being clear.

View 2 RepliesI'm sure you're expecting me to have forgotten to use addChild. I wish it was that easy. I will say I'm very new to AS3.0. I have a movie clip in my library that contains a small PNG file and a text label. The linkage properties are: Class: shapes.HorizontalIcon, Base class: flash.display.Sprite.[code]As far as I can tell this should work. There are no errors. The trace statement above shows up in the output. The parent sprite is also an item from the library. It shows up on the stage. I tried adding a random TextField to the parent sprite it showed up on the stage just fine.Something isn't working right, but I don't know where to start debugging this.
