ActionScript 3.0 :: Possible For Shockwave Application To Detect If Keystroke Came For Keyboard
Aug 18, 2010
I was wondering, is it possible for a shockwave application to detect if a keystroke came for the keyboard, or from another application simulating a keystroke?

I have several input text fields that should take Hex input. I want to limit keyboard input to a-f, A-F, 0-9, left/right arrows, and backspace. I can determine which key was pressed easy enough; I just don't know how to cancel an unwanted keystroke. This seems like it should be very simple, however, I have not been able to find an answer.

I'm trying to use google maps in my wpf c# project, I've installed Adobe Flash player but cannot for the life of me find the shockwave player object reference or when I add a new item in the toolbox find in, both in the COM lists. I had to download and install flash using internet explorer.

I'm using a keyboard event to detect when a key is pressed. This is what it looks like:
Code:
private function keyPressed(event:KeyboardEvent)
{
switch(event.keyCode)
{
case Keyboard.CONTROL:
ctrlHandle=true;
[Code]...
It's worked up until now. I know that all the keys except the last one work because they carry out their function and the trace on DOWN works. However, for the last one, I've tried W and ALTERNATE (and got errors) and ESCAPE and TAB (both not doing anything, not even returning the trace).

I have a flex app with lots of custom components, like custom buttons, comboBoxes etc. I am trying to add keyBoard shortcuts to the flex app. In doing so, I added a key-down listener to the app to listen for ctrl+shift key combination like this:
this.stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, handleKeyDown);
Then I dispatch a custom event that all of my custom components are listening for:
private function reportKeyDown(event:KeyboardEvent):void {
var evtObj:Object = new Object();
evtObj.keyEvent = event;
dispatchEvent(new CustomEvent(CustomEvent.SHORTCUT_KEYS_PRESSED, evtObj, true, false));
}
In my custom button component I have:
this.addEventListener(CustomEvent.SHORTCUT_KEYS_PRESSED, ShortCutKeysHandler, true);
So, if I go ctrl+shift+W then I want one instance of the custom button to get clicked. For some reason, the event never gets triggered and never gets to the ShortCutKeysHandler function.

I'm working on an application and I am building a "Keyboard" component for it. There are 30 keys on the keyboard and it doesnt seem to make practical sense to create an event handler for each button. When the button is clicked, its label should be sent out to a function which adds it to a textinput field. Should I just create a "click=SomeFunction(Button.label)" for each button or is there a better/faster/less processor intensive way to do it?

I have an enterprise Flex web application, served up over https, that runs fine on Flash player 10.0 and beyond on a desktop computer/browser.
However, when I run it from my HTC Incredible with Android 2.2 the app loads fine, but there is no on-screen keyboard and so I cannot log in. I can see the blinking cursor inside the username and password text fields. I can switch between them. I can even hit the login button and see an authentication error!

Let's say I had a flex application (Web, not Air), that was meant for Mass Distribution, to be included like a plug-in of sorts, at various websites. Is there any way for a particular instance of the SWF to detect it's own URL while it's running? If so, can you point me in the right direction of which ActionScript command I might google for more info?

One of our application is implemented in flex and adobe air. We want to have the user press combination of keys, say 'ABC', and have the keyboard return a different character, 'FOG', to whatever app is in focus. This should work even if app has no focus.
Will it possible in Adobe Air/Flex? If yes, provide me some examples?

I am making an application that plays the video stream from the user's local system (both Windows and Mac). I use the Camera.getCamera() method and in turn Camera.names to get a list of camera attached with the system.
Unfortunately, if the camera is already in use by another application, say a desktop application on user's system, the browser is crashed. Is there any way that I can detect if a specific camera from the list of available camera is already in use by any other application?

Is there a way in Flash to detect if the user has quit the application? For example if the user closes the browser window, or has not been active for 5 minutes, then so remove them from the list of active members.

My Flex application is heavily keyboard-oriented. It uses 100% of the browser window and I'd like the user to be able to start using it immediately - as soon as it loads. However, it seems that the application is only first "activated" (i.e. the activate event fires) when the mouse clicks somewhere inside it, which is very inconvenient for my keyboard-heavy app.
Can I force an activation of my app at some point during/after it loads? I hope I don't have to display some silly "click inside to activate" overlay every time the page loads..
In certain browsers ([cough] Chrome [/cough]) the focus is lost whenever the user switches away from the browser (or even touches the address bar) and is not regained when switching back. So the solution has to take in consideration not just the first focus when the page loads but also "re-focusing".

I had to build a simple calculator, but now they want a button that will print out the results. This is going to be used on a webpage, so I would like to do is have the "Print" button trigger the Control+P keystroke when it is clicked. That way the Print dialogue will pop up for the user.

I have a line on a client who wants someone to create an animation that "starts with a keystroke". Info is a bit fuzzy right now, but I'm pretty sure that what he means to say is that he wants there to be an initial frame or scene and then for it to proceed, he just hits "ENTER" or whatever.

I've some very old Flash applications, which we don't want to rebuild to add a new feature. We simply need to detect when the user has become idle. So, if the Flash application receives no key or mouse events after 3 minutes, we want to track that time till the user interacts with the application again.
We've considered wrapping the applications in newer Flash applications to include the key/mouse event tracking; however, early research shows that some of our apps are so old that they use event systems or AVM's (ActionScript Virtual Machines) that are incompatible. Also, it seems that mouse events on the inner application don't bubble up to the outer application. (I think the direction of event processing is backwards in versions of Flash prior to 8)
Anyhow, the next idea on the table is to see if we can determine when the user stops interacting with the old Flash applications using JavaScript. Can anyone confirm whether or not it is possible to detect, using JavaScript only, when a swf in an HTML document loses focus or key and mouse events stop and start occurring on the swf?

I have a virtual keyboard on screen, with SimpleButtons for each of the keyboard keys. In addition to using the on-screen keyboard, I want to allow for physical keyboard input as well.
Everything works, but I am looking for a way to trigger the rollover/down/up animation of the SimpleButton if the user uses the keyboard. Is this possible? I'm already capturing the keystroke info and matching it against the SimpleButton, but I don't know how to get the button to play.

I've only had several Flash and AS classes so my knowledge on them is pretty limited.The eLearning I created in Adobe Captivate 5 is launched by my employer's LMS in Internet Explorer. As I'm sure you're aware, IE maintanes focus on certain keystrokes. The eLearning covers our proprietary software where a user must use certain combos such as Ctrl + L, Ctrl + E and the like.I've been searching for a solution that would allow the user to perform the actual keystroke. One of our IT guys found some code and inserted it into the htm and js files that Captivate generates and it worked in Firefox but not IE and IE is the only browser my employer supports.I am already employing a workaround but it's just not the same as being able to have the user perform the actual keystroke.

I want to know, Is there any way to handle or control the shockwave objects in flash by using 'as3'? I know this is possible in 'Director' by using 'Lingo'. But I am not able to find any way or any articles from where i can get some idea about this. In the director, I've seen there is way to set some properties like camera position, light affects etc. with the shockwave objects. But I am not sure about the FLASH. Can it possible to use these type of properties with shockwave objects in flash, which could be controlled in action script3 ?

Can I set a maximum percentage of CPU resources a specific program or process can use? I want to use the executable name instead of its pid, because I would like certain executables to always run with constrained resources.
The reason I ask for that is that I am bored of the way Shockwave Flash behaves. It is not possible that to draw a few stupid things in my browser it takes 50%, 80%, 99% of my dual core CPU!
MacBook Pro 2009 -
MacOS X 10.6.4 -
Chrome 6.0 -
Firefox
P.S.: Now, when my fan starts running I now the reason and I know how to temporarily fix it: I kill Shockwave Flash and everything is back as normal.

What are the ways of doing this? The search function is down right now, for whatever reason.
The only way I can think of off the top of my head is using an html enabled text box in flash to iframe a separate page with the shockwave app inside it. I've seen it only once before on a site that was given a new shockwave game and we had to have it work with the existing flash website.

I am working on a program to draw something using dimensions input by the user. As the user changes these dimensions, the drawing changes to match. The problem I am facing is that it currently requires 15 textInputs to draw the image. I have them set up so that you can tab through them to enter the information quickly, then all of the drawing is done through ActionScript in the Submit button below the entry. However, when I enter 15 lines of information my instinct automatically presses enter to complete the process, every time. Now for my question. Is there a way to make a keystroke equal a button press? Or do I have to copy all 500 lines of code into a keystroke listener?
