ActionScript 3.0 :: Possible To Make Instances / Children Interact With Other Objects By Adding EventListener

I know it is possible to make instances/children interact with other objects by adding an eventListener to each child/instance.But how do you make a random instance/child interact with another random instance/child?Example: let a bunch of spaceships get damaged by a bulletrain by using addChild to place both spaceships and bullets on the stage.
I've attached the FLA.I'm trying to make a game where the guy kills rats that appear randomly as the scenery moves down, however every time I shoot the rat and remove the rat child, it throws an error that my actionscript is pointing to an inexistent rat. Hence my problem... is there a way to add many instances of the same class with AS3 at random intervals and remove them when it's shot with the bullet???

if it was by any means (LocalCOnnect?) possible to create a footer that will 'talk' or interact with other instances of it on the same page... Now I know there is one problem because it's actually the same swf file
Below is sample code from a Module I have in my Flex app. I want to dynamically create mx.controls.Image objects and add them to the display. I want the user to be able to move them (this works as below) and be able to change their z-index as well as record new X and Y coords after moving back to the database. How do I determine which object in this.getChildren() is the 'selected' item the user is working with? When I add a MOUSE_OVER event, for example, it does not work.[code]
I was wondering if there was a scripting language that one could use to to interact with a flash object on a webpage? I am trying to automate some tasks but the webpage uses flash. Edit: I am trying to fill out a form basically click a few "check boxes" and then a submit button but I would like to know if its possible to automate this task.
I've been hitting dead ends while programming lately all over, and I finally came to the realization all the code I have that is broken is because I don't know how to interact with instances of one class from within another. Here's the gist of what I am trying to do:
The problem is, if I address a single instance that is on the canvas, I get "access to undefined property targetClip", even though the document class can interact with it fine. If I target the class file of targetClip, I get "Implicit coercion of a value of type Class to an unrelated type flash.display:DisplayObject". It isn't just a problem with hitTest either, I'm having this problem with other actions, so there is some basic syntax I'm failing to comprehend.
I want to create a flash movie which firstly loads a selection of images/objects into a portion of the frame. After this is complete, the user can then drag these objects onto another area and the object will be created where the user has chosen. The user can then drag another instance of the ojects onto the area.
For example, there is a background of a lake in one area. A selection of boat pngs are loaded in an area below the lake. The user can drag these boats and place them on the lake. They can drag a boat multiple times if they wish.
trying to remove instances of child/children. I have a function (btFnc) that creates a child (bT) and then the function is called several times to add instances to the stage - btFnc(264,3.6); btFnc(304,4.6); btFnc(344,5.6); btFnc(384,6.6); btFnc(424,7.6);Yet i cannot for the life of me remove all of the children, only 1.

I've been asking way too many questions lately, but I'm bored since it's summer and decided to learn some. Basically, I want to know how to find out how many instances of an object or how many children are on the screen at a time.

I want to use tweenlite to tween a navui_mc onto stage when I rollover another mc. Once navui_mc has completed the tween, I want to ad an MOUSE_OUT eventlistener to navui_mc, so that when I mouse off this mc is tweens out.The function call at the end of the tween seems to work as it is tracing that it has completed, but i dont think I can have the eventlistener in a function?
When the escape key is released, I close the deepest child in a tree-like structure, and then tell it's parent (which is now the new 'deepest child') to close when the escape key is released ... but I do that while such an event is triggered, that causes the whole chain to close.

I'm setting up a row of thumbnails that will show a tooltip TextFormat object on rollover.

However when the screen is resize and the thumbnails are repositioned. The tooltips are still referencing to the old position. I tried to 'refresh' the positions by adding the same EventListener again on resize. But didn't work
I am trying to add evenListeners to movieClips that are created by a method in one of my Classes. Creating an instance of my class from the main timeline and then adding that instance to the stage.:

I have a win32 window in which I have a child window which runs a swf. Thus i have a swf running inside my main win32 window created using c++. Now how can i make the events of flash(swf) appear in my c++ code. For example how can i send a string from my flash to c++ ?
Does ExternalInterface help in this regard ? If yes, then how can c++ recieve what flash sends ??
I have two classes ( shown below after problem description), the InteractiveStrategy and Filters classes. The class InteractiveStrategy is the main class definition. In there I declare and instantiate two variables, updateData and filters. I also display the lists mqList and sqList. In the Filters class I have two methods, MainQuestions() and SubQuestions(mq:int). The method MainQuestions() populates a list mqList with the main-questions and SubQuestion populates list sqList with the sub-questions. This means each main-question has a set of sub-questions associated with it.
Thus whenever the main-question (via mqList) changes, the set of sub-questions must change also. My attempt at accomplishing the above is shown in the skeleton code below.The MainQuestions() method dispatches an event called 'mqChanged' while the filter.MainQuestions() listens for the event. However I have no idea of how to execute filter.SubQuestions(mainQuestion) with the newly selected mainQuestion so as to display the new set of sub-questions.

How do I apply EventListener function to all objects of a MovieClip from the main Timeline?I have ball_1, ball_2.. ball_10 objects of movieClip Ball of class Ball. Is there any way I can add EventListener to all of them in a single line? Will there be a increase in performance?I have tried EventListener from inside the MovieClip , but for my purpose I need to use it from Main timeLine? or is it possible with Classes?
What I deduce from this example is that the swfLoader.contentLoaderInfo and _ldrInfo = this.contentLoaderInfo refer to the same object in the same memory location. So you may think: "well the last added event will overwrite the first one (the internally one added). But it doesn't. The two event listeners will respond sequentially. First the internal listener and then the external listener.
When my movieclip finishes to play I'm adding an eventListeners to it (ROLL_OVER and CLICK). But if at the moment my movieclip finishes to play the mouse cursor is already over the movieclip i want to run ROLL_OVER event handler (play "roll over" label) how can i do this without moving my mouse out the movieclip and back over the movieclip?
I'm playing a flash game on facebook. I know I can decompile it to find out all the commands and would like to make scripts to automate the game by calling procedures in the actionscript of the game. So I guess I would like to make a plugin also that would insert this console into any flash app and this would be handy for a lot of things. Then if anyone wants to hack a new game, u just decompile it and make a handbook of methods for people to make scripts with. So how would I go about making this console? I don't know if I could make a swf interact with the game or if it has to be compiled into the game's swf. Or if it is easier with javascript, that is cool too. maybe we can make a javascript library just for this. anyone can tell me more?
I'm working on a project where I keep adding children to a MC already on the screen. There are two types of these children: Sprites that I use to draw lines using moveTo, lineTo, ect. Then there's sprites that have children inside of THEM that are bitmaps.
For some strange reason, the Sprites with the bitmaps on them always have a higher depth/index (AS3 terminology is still weird for me) than the normal Sprites.
Here's a diagram of my MC/children/children layers:

I am trying to make a function where if you click on one button, a new movieclip is added to the stage. When you click on that movieclip, it should play the closing and remove itself from the stage (removeChild).The problems I am running into are that when you click the button, it will add a new movieclip child for every click. I want it to only add one and any successive clicks would close it.Also I was successful in making the new movie clip play the closing but I cant figure out how to remove it from the stage. Its alpha fades to 0 as the closing, but its still there and just invisible.[code]
Is there any way to make a flash object where users can interact but has no server side support. All users are in the same network, the swf file would be on a shared drive. Nothing complicated, just one frame where everyone (about 10 user) can make modification. No login, no password.
I am working on an application that has buttons (movieClips) to set the color of user input (graphics, type, etc...). When clicked, the selected button displays a movie clip of a palette of 35 colors.I open the palette with the following function (is that the same as a method?):function openPalette(event:MouseEvent):void event.target.addChild(colorPalette);}I can then click on the colors in the palette to select the color I want.However, since the palette is a child of the button, clicking on a color within the palette triggers the same function as clicking on the parent button again. So basically I've got a MovieClip called Jug and when the egg is clicked and dragged to the Jug I want it to disappear and then re-add itself in the place it first started. Aswell as this I want a variable to be added by 1 in value. I have tried fiddling around with this for a while now and I can't figure it out since when I remove child it gets errors. Here's the code:
