ActionScript 3.0 :: The Formula Used In The Blendmode: 'layer'?

I've been searching for the formula used intrinsically in Flash but I couldn't find anything. Does anybody know how the result colors are obtained when the 'layer' blend mode is chosen for the upper object? I thinks it's done separately in each channel using the transparency values.There might be some bitwise operations going on there but I'm not sure.

So you've got a transparent png. Rather than importing that png with its alpha channel, I've always assumed it's better to import it with a black or white matte, then use Flash's blend modes (lighten, darken, screen, multiply) to show the transparency.Am I right on this, or does it make no difference in terms of cpu usage?I do believe that in terms of filesize, the matte saves quite a bit over the alpha channel.

Does Flash Player 9's BlendMode ability transpose to normal bitmap data (JPG, PNG, etc.) outside or beneath the SWF? I have a movieclip that I'm trying to blend with an HTML background like Photoshop. It currently doesn't react to the options I've tried.

Set 2 MovieClips on the stage each having a rectangle in it which have different colors. Put them one over another and apply to the top one some blend mode that shows some visual difference. Ok so what I need to do now is grab the bitmapData from both and redraw it into a single MovieClip, so what I need is to merge the 2 bitmapData, which worked fine without a blendMode, but I can't get it to work right with blendMode[code]...

I am trying to erase one movieclip from another using the blendmode="erase" setting, but can only get it to work on the stage as the parent. This means it erases a hole through everything! The attachmovie also doesn't seem to work as I was expecting and I was hoping that when you drag the movieclip, the attached clip would move with it? If you check out the FLA [URL] you can see whats happening right now and what I want to achieve (diagrams provided in FLA).

Overlay blending mode in flash on trasnaprent, imported images, doesn't work properly! It leaves dimmed black background instead of transparency. Same thing is in CS4 and in CS5. What is even more weird is that in Flash preview stage window everything is fine, and it works, but after publishing the SWF, you can see black background.I looked for workaround that...no success. No one answeres to this question.
-I tried with 24png, 8png, gif with different settings. No success.
-Tried also with After Effects, and then export to SWF, it works surprisingly.

I'm loading a batch of 50 jpgs and once loaded, on enter frame, I'd like to change their alpha individually and apply BlendMode.ADD to all of them (also individually).
I can do this easy using normal Sprite objects, but this is not efficient enough (processor wise). I've played a bit with BitmapData.draw(source, null, null, BlendMode.Add) and that's still not efficient enough.
So I was wondering if I could achieve similar effect using copyPixels (which I know should be more efficient). Still, I'm a bit clueless on how could I apply BlendMode and alpha on a bitmapData object (I mean, I know I can't, but I was wondering if I could make this work using Matrix and filter manipulations).

i've a problem with a MC containing 3 3D nested animated MC. When i place this MC on the main TLine, it give me
error #2007 Parameter blendMode must be non-null.
The I tried to set the blendmode of the 3 nested MC in the nested timeline:
nestedMC.blendMode = BlendMode.NORMAL;
but it keep giving me error...

so, a blendMode seems to break on a nested movieclip in FP10 when you change a 3d propery of the parent clip? rotationY, rotationZ, etc...Example here (sorry, not enough posts to actually link):

i need to mix two images one photo and a placeholder. The idea is that we see the placeholder except where the palceholder has a particular color, in that case the user sees the photo. Something like chroma key.For this purpose i wrote a Pixel Bender shader that acts as a BlendMode. If the background is in the right color output the pixel image otherwhise output the pixel from the placeholder.

Everything works fine except for the fact that i had multiple placeholder, one over the other and my shader don't check the color of its own placeholder but the color of everything under the photo.Is there a way to force BlendMode to consider only a layer or a specific background color ?Is there a smarter way to obtain the same result ?

I am doing some research on creating clcikTags. I read a few places that the clcikTag should be on the top layer. That has been fine, but now I want to loop it and I usually put my actions in the top layer. Will this cause a problem? Am I better off just putting my loop action on the last key frame of the clcikTag layer?

Im creating a program that is designed to allow the used to select 3 pictures (movie clips) and print them off on a single peace of paper.
The program works by allowing the user to select 3 graphics (the graphics are actually instructions for various exercises) and then moving the desired movieclips onto the stage. This all happens on a layer named "Content"
So far the program will allow the user to select the movieclips and will move them into place on the Content layer as well as move smaller versions of the pictures into a preview box the only thing it does not do is print. (the most important bit)

Is it possible to create multiple layer masks over a single layer using Actionscript3?Below is the flash effect I wanted to create with masks.First it starts from A and goes to B and C simultaneously.Then from B it goes to H and D simultaneously (the same applies to C).This is how the end result will look like.ps. I can't seem to go to a master edit file that is supposed to show both the body (layer 1) and wing (layer 2) of a flying bird animation. Is there a way to merge these two since I'm planning on shrinking it down and making a lot of birds?He merged the two layers at 14:24 of the video without even explaining how he went to this so called "Edit Master Movie Clip" that seems non-existent on Adobe Flash CS4.

I want to create a simple mask. A white oval on a second layer on top of a bottom layer that just has a word of type. I want the oval to travel from the upper left down to cover up the type. When I create the second layer, create the oval, and choose a distant frame for the "end" of the oval's positioning, my type in the first layer disappears as soon as I press F6 on that second layer. Why? Why is it nuking my first layer?

I have a container MovieClip called Drags where I can drag stamps (other MovieClips)--they are added to the Drags container via addChild. I have a second container MovieClip above that one (display order-wise) call Paint that contains a bmp, and some sprites used for adding a layer of paint.
My question is this: I need to be able to click on the Paint layer when I am above a draggable MovieClip and trigger the MouseEvent for the correct object to drag it around, but the item must always remain below the Paint layer.

I'm having a real problem trying to work this out...
A: I start with a movieclip on stage. it's 100x100.
B: I set xscale and yscale to 150.
C: I use "attachMovie" to add a little man into the square.The problem is, the man has an xscale of 100, but he is also scaled with the movieclip square container. So he appears too big.
D: What i would like to know, is what formula you would use to reduce his scale so he is the correct height, if the container movieclip had an xscale of 100?

I've been trying to look this up but not had any luck so far. I'm trying to make a simple pseudo-3D app, but I'm stuck on how to pull off the movement. If I have an object with x,y,z coordinates, and its movement speed, pitch, and yaw, what formula would I use for movement? So for example, if the object is at 0,0,0, moves 6 units per frame, and has pitch 30 degrees and yaw 15 degrees, what will be its coordinates next frame?

I'm trying to do a little comic comedy type video in Flash. I've done an outline sketch with the pen tool of my first character, now I want to color it BUT I want to keep the colors and the outline sketch separated on two different layers. Is there a way I can select the path (outline) on layer A and then colorize it with the bucket tool on layer B? The problem I'm having is that every object I select it automatically jumps to that corresponding layer.
One reason why I want to do it this way is I still want to continue working freely on the outline sketch since it's not fully finished, so that I just can blend the colors out and keep working on the outline, at the same time I want to color it while I go just to see where it's going and to make sure that I'm not wasting my time unnecessarily with trying to do a outline just to find out that it won't work out at the end.

I have a little math problem with a game I'm making, and I can't for the life of me figure out the formula needed to accomplish something..Say, there's a sniping game, and a BIG image that must scroll from left to right according to the mouse movement.
Something like this:[URL]... In that example, the scene is 550 pixels wide, and the image is 1100, exactly two times the scene, so the formula is kinda easy..

the center of the image would be at x 1500, way over to the right of the scene, outside it, but it would fit inside the screen, like this (the blue square represents the real size of the scene):[URL]..Then when the mouse is at the far right side, that is 550 x, the image center should be at -950 x, like this:[URL]...

i'm trying to dynamically layout a calendar using actionscript and i'm no good at determining algorithms to quickly and efficiently lay things out.what i want to do is set it up per the image attached:
* where there are 7 columns and a varying number of rows.
* the top row has the 2 arrows and the month and year display.
* the second row has all the day headings, i.e. S, M, T, W, R, F, S
* and the rest of the rows will have the dates.
how do i come up with a nice clean formula to calculate the positions so all these elements align?

I am trying to code a loan calculator into Flash, however AS3 doesn't like my formula and won't calculate it, can someone help? Here is what I have:
loan=15000
apr=13
term=48
var loan_amount = (apr + (apr / (Math.pow(trm, (1 + apr)) -1 ))) * loan;
When I print out the loan_amount I get a 0.If I do: var loan_amount = (Math.pow(trm, (1 + apr)) -1); it will give me the result 1.0331079714165e55
As soon as I add the next part of the equation (apr / (Math.pow(trm, (1 + apr)) -1 )); it will give me the actual apr value as the result instead of the apr divided by the 1.0331079714165e55.Likewise, if I try to add a fixed value instead of the apr variable, it will return that fixed value instead of doing the math.

I´d like to know how would I make a formula for the calculation of speed.It´s not as simple as distance divided by time.I want something different.I have an helicopter.This helicopter is landed.He will take off with a small speed, but increasing speed.What I want is.This helicopter movement. In other words, increasing vertical speed, in a given time, say, 2.4 seconds, in a give distance, say, 100 pixels.After that he keeps vertical speed constantly. So I think the helicopter will start with its vertical speed slow, increasing, then, decreasing untill it reachs its constant vertical speed.

how to convert it to 0 and also if the number wsa 9, convert it to 1, and if it was 8 it gets converted to 2.. and so on.. where if it was 0 it would then be 10 Is there a formula? The 0 to 10, and 10 to 0 may not be possible but that's ok.
