i'm trying to update a demo that uses a windows console app written in c++ to send chars to another windows console app using sockets.
is there any way to have flash talk to a local windows socket?
so far i've tried using localhost and the computer's ip.
Recently I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 32 bit on my HP laptop, and installed all the CS4 applications of Design Premium. The installation went fine, and almost all the updates (Photoshop 11.0.1, InDesign 6.0.4, etc..) installed with no problems. The only one It doesn't allow me to install is the Flash 10.0.2 update. It gives an error that "the installer detected a problem and cannot continue" and then shows some options to ignore the update.
View 2 RepliesHow does Adobe Flash launch auto-update message as soon as I logon on Windows? I thought Flash is only a browser plugin. I tried look for the program it runs, but can't find it in all the usual places: Start Up group in Start Menu, HKLM Run, HKCU Run, Services.
I know it is possible to disable this via Flash preferences. However, I need to remove it mechanically once and for all, because it seems like a security risk to me (as hackers would be able to exploit a Flash installation even if the browser has not been launched).
Just thought I'd share that after the windows update I did this week, the browser cache blocking trick described in many places where you put ?r=<randomnumber> at the end of a URL no longer works. Not exactly sure what happened, but it now causes a URL not found error, at least for me when I'm loading local files off my disk.

View 1 RepliesI haven't done any Flash for a loooong while and I'm struggling with the CS4 demo I just DL-ed from Adobe I have a banner that will be sent to 6 or 7 partner sites and in the banner is a button with a getURL action to take the user to my site. The getURL has a url variable on it like this
getURL("http://www.domain.fr/index.php?pmv_pid=2","_blank");
so that I can track which site it comes from however, to avoid having to make a different banner for each site that hosts the banner I would like to detect the domain of the site and use a switch to insert the correct var on the url.
I have to create a demo loop that will play on a 32" TV at a convention center booth. This .swf will also be repurposed on a webpage after the convention.What's the best pixel dimension to create the flash stage? If I create it at 1024 x 768 to fit safely within a browser, any idea how it will look when viewed on a TV? Will it look distorted? How do I compensate for fact that the TV may be 1080p or it may be 720.... and still have it work on a typical web page?

If we wanted to put a mockup on a website which allows the user to get a feel for the UI (gather some data, change some settings etc.), what are some good methods to do so?I'm thinking either some clever javascript or flash. I've done some JS before but only to style elements of a page. I did some stuff with flash about 8 years ago and found it really fiddly.
So my questions; Are javascript/flash reasonable solutions for this or is there something better. What is likely to be the simpler/quicker route? Is there a better way to achieve the end result?] The demo doesn't need real data, just some fake/dummy example stuff is fine.
I built an AS3 image gallery using FlashDevelop. Before I zip up the application, I can run the image gallery in my browser by simply opening the index.html for the project. Everything works perfectly. I then zip up the project as proj-0.1.2.zip using winrar. I then unzip this newly created zip and try to load the application using the project index.html like above. The gallery doesn't function properly. From seeing what happens, it appears as though the image metadata is not present(but I'm not sure, see below).
There are other applications as well that are broken. Videos don't load. If an application doesn't depend on any external assets then everything looks fine. Another thing..If I then build the FlashDevelop project and republish the swf..then it works in the index.html like I want. What is going on here? I want people to be able to fire up my demo apps out of the box by just running the index.html. If that doesn't always work and they have to figure out that they need to rebuild the SWF then that's pretty bad.

I was thinking of using Flash, but I don't have much experience, so if there is another easier IDE that creates a Flash application, I would prefer that.
Is the source for the demo player bundled with the FMS 4.5 install, available somewhere? It looks like a useful tool to debug playback of streams and I was trying to to see if I could port it to Air for IOS and Android for the purposes of evaluting the playback quality of various sample video files.

Neither of these are on my Server - believe me I've checked, repeatedly. So how is it possible that my swf still functions as if these two packages where there. Does the import actually embed these inside the swf or what?
I am new to CS5 and I want to create a demo where each scene has it owns sound file. So going from scene 1 to scene 2, the sound from scene 1 should stop and the sound of scene 2 should begin then after the sound file from scene 2 finish it will automatically go to scene 3 then the sound file from scene 3 will begin. Each scene has a jpg file in it to show the user what I am talking about.
View 1 RepliesI am deploying Updates via SCUP and SCCM to hundreds of Computers. Fortunately Adobe provides an SCCM Update Catalog for both Adobe Flash ActiveX and Adobe Flash Plugin. But now my Problem: After publishing the Update via SCCM, the client is not supposed to be interfered with the Update Progress (which is working) I figured the Updater works like this: First SCCM checks if a Update needs to be deployed, if this is the case, The Flash Updater begins. First the old Flash Version is beeing uninstalled. But now: if the Client has a Browser Window (IE, or Firefox) open, the Updater is not able to install the new Flash Version and quits with an Error. This leaves the Client PC without any Flash (because its being uninstalled before) How can I prevent Flash being uninstalled due to the Update progress not working while a Browser window is open?

I'm running ant to compile a Flex application, and the build keeps failing when running it on a windows command line. Other people in my team can successfully run the very same build under mac and linux. This is the error shown in the command prompt:

All tokens are set in corresponding build.properties and filter .properties files (and, as I said before, it compiles perfectly under mac and linux). The windows version is 7 Ultimate, FLEX_HOME is set as an environment variable to the Flex SDK 3.5 (the 3.5.0.12683 build that comes with Adobe Flash Builder Burrito). ${compiler.fork} is set to false, to avoid an issue with the SDK and the source files being in different logic drives.
I'm using Flex in Flash Player 10 on Windows, using FileReference to load a file into memory, as below.My issue is that when a file is locked by Windows, my FileReference is not giving me any feedback that the file is inaccessible--it simply never dispatches any events after my calling load().Does anyone have insight into how to tell that Flash Player is unable to open the file?

From an Adobe Air application, I need a function to launch the Windows Virtual Keyboard (c:windowssystem32osk.exe). I tried the Native Process, but it didn't work when telling it to execute cmd.exe /C osk.exe. How should I launch the keyboard application from an Adobe Air application?

I am familiar with flex and am hoping that i be able to use it for the application. But i can not figure out a way to play the file in flex. I have been able to play the file only in windows media player and that required the installation of three codecs : Mp4Audio.ax, Mp4Video.ax, Mp4Src.ax.
As i see it, it will be very convenient if i could embed a windows media player plugin in flex or i could specify the audio and video codecs in the flash player
I have a flex application (.swf) and want to create a projector file. When I choose File-> create projector I get the .app file because I work on a Mac. I know I can create both projector formats for windows and mac using the export feature in Flash Professional. But this is not an option since it's Flex.Is there any other way rather than switching to windows to create the file?
