ActionScript 3.0 :: Way To Disable Scrolling On Textfields?
Feb 13, 2008
Is there a way to disable scrolling on textfields? We are having a reoccuring problem where textfields that schouldn't be scrollable still scroll for 1 line. You can see ALL of the text in a textfield (nothing is hidden below the fold), but when you click and drag, the text field scrolls up one line. This looks really sloppy but we can't find a fix.It seems that flash autosize makes the textfield a few pixels too short.I've tried every variation I can and looked through the as docs with no luck.

I have several "field types" such as Radios and Checks, but I also have a field type of my own called "multiVal".The purpose of the field is to allow the user to enter several values in one field, by pressing the Enter key. For this, I'm using a textArea component.I already wrote the code for the dynamic sizing of the textArea, and the Key Listeners, and it all works fine. My only problem is when the user presses&holds the ENTER key in the text field, because while my functions only count it as one press, the field itself is field with several line breaks.I am NOT interested in making it the other way around (having the function to add several "values" as long as the key is down). My GUI's specifications require that it only adds a SINGLE entry per key press.
I know I can probobly get around this by diving into the UIObject class, or textField class, but I'd really like to find a more effecient way than this.
I'm using a for loop and creating multiple textfields in that, that populate with variables from an aspx page.My issue is that no matter what I do I cannot get all these fields to datapage or scroll, I place them in another movie clip, and assign them to that clip, and I can scroll the background contents of the clip but not the dynamic fields. All the scrollbar tutorials for textfields are based on single textboxes or graphics. What can I do to get all the generated fields to scroll inside the stage area? The function of this is to pull from a database of flights that gets updated, and allow the user to select and view what times/dates etc. are available.
Actionscript Code: var reply_lv = new LoadVars();reply_lv.load("#");reply_lv.onLoad = loadedDotNetVars;_root.createEmptyMovieClip("databox", _root.getNextHighestDepth());function
I want to get the the boundaries of a character in a textfield relative to the stage. The problem is that getCharBoundaries seems to return the coordinates not relative to the TextFields origin, but relative to the text origin (which may be somewhere outside of the textfield if the textfield is scrolling).
I don't know how to get the actual origin of the text (even if it's not visible within the textfield due to scrolling) so that I can calculate the actual stage coordinates of the character.[URL]...
im working on a website with a fullscreen toggle feature. On one of the page i got a textfield that gets all the text from an external xml file.I created a custom scrollbar that will allow scrolling for the textfield.Im looking for a way to disable to option of mouse wheel scrolling. When i publish the movie and use the html file it doesnt allow mouse scrolling but when i go to full screen and i try to scroll using the mouse wheel the textbox is scrolling, the problem is that my custom scrollbar isn't. is there a way to make sure that the scrolling will be disabled at all time ?
I have several layers of scrolling BGs via action script. In between these layers are a set of simple buttons made via "button" symbols. Within the stage, the buttons are recognized, however, when I test the movie, the buttons are not recognized/activated by the cursor. My guess is that the scrolling BGs that are on top of everything else (NOT added via "addChild" in a blank movie clip below all other layers) are somehow "blocking" my cursor from reading the simple buttons "below" them.
For the visual aspect of the project, the scrolling BGs are needed both "below" and "above" the buttons, so I need a work-around for simple button use in this multi-level scrolling BG environment. (just to clarify, by "above" and "below" I dont mean vertically above and below, but rather "layered" above and below, so as to "cover" eachother).
whats the command that will disable scrolling in the page, but there are no frames in the page.and id like to know also, how can i change color of the layers edge ..
I'm pretty familiar with Actionscript, and this one has me completely stumped. What I'm trying to do is to prevent people from scrolling a TextArea with their mouse wheel, as the TextArea is inside of a ScrollPane, and at the moment scrolling one will scroll the other (double scrolling). Initially I tried[code]...
Is it possible to disable mousewheel scrolling on my webpage while the cursor is over my flex application?
My flex application is a map that allows user to zoom in and out using the mousewheel; however, when I put my flex app onto my webpage, the scrollwheel causes the page to scroll instead of zooming in and out.[code]...
I have a flash embed code in my webpage. When playing the game, page is scrolling with Up and Down keys. How can i prevent this? Firefox is ok, but it's only scrolling in IE.
I thin the fastest way to explain the problem is to show the [code]...
So that is my AS code and it all works fine except when you move your mouse over that text field and scroll the wheel the text in the text field scrolls one line. And i really cant have that, it all works fine if there is no changing of font size but i will also need to change that so is there a solution just to disable scrolling on text field?
I have a flash element on my page that you interact with by using the middle mouse scroll wheel. The page is long. So when scrolling with the mouse wheel it interacts with the Flash element AND scrolls the browser window.
Is there a way to disable browser scrolling while the Flash element is active?
I have a spark List with an item renderer and a tile layout. If I scroll by clicking with the mouse on the scroll bar and trying to scroll with the mouse wheel after that, there is a problem: The interval of the scrolling is oversized, instead of scrolling one item down (or up) the List scrolls 4 items down (or up).
Im making a scrollable mc. Easiest thing in the world.... but the damn scoller just will not stop when the movie clip it's scrolling ends. It stops....eventully... but not close enough. What actionscript do I need to use and where do I put it?
I have created a vertical menu that scrolls through menu items in a movie clip. There is a big white gap when the movie clip runs out, and it snaps back to the beginning.I would like it to scroll seamlessly, having the end join up with the beginning again without any space.I would like it to scroll to one end of the list and STOP, and scroll back the other way and STOP - without any white space.URL...
This is a repost, but I've still not figured out a solution. I have a Flash movie that appears on a webpage. The Flash contains scrolling content ( scrollpane, text field, whatever).
The containing webpage is tall, and therefore also has scrollbars. My Problem: When users try to use the MouseWheel to scroll through my Flash scrolling data, the browser page scrolls as well. It's very annoying.
I would like to be able to have the MouseWheel scroll my Flash scrolling content when it's over the flash, but scroll the webpage when it's not over the Flash.
Does anybody know a way to supress wheel-based browser page-scrolling while my mouse is over a Flash movie??? Is there a way to eat/stop propagation, whatever, of the wheel event in the brwoser, either from Flash or from Javascript?
I have been working on a site that will display a portfolio for a friend of mine who is a photographer. I want to have thumbnails that can be scrolled on the bottom of the page, and an area where the thumbnail is presented when selected. I have the thumbnails appearing. I have them loading, however, I can't get them to scroll when the mouse moves to the left or right of the row of images. he file can be viewed at...[URL] Here is the code I used for the slideshow:
I want to create two textfields in flash wich will move the text simultaniously by using one scrollbar. for example. the left textfield contains text and the right textfield contains pictures. and the scrollbar is in the middle.
What I want to happen is..when you click on a button ('Bengkulu' for example), the movie should go to and stop at frame 63 , whilst the textfield (my_text) should display 'This is a delightful place in Sumatra'. However, the <Data> node's text won't display. Why?
I got two textfields on top of each other, with different sizes. When I push button_1 I want text in textfield_1 and when I push button_2 text in textfield_2.
That works but now I got links in both textfields and the the links in textfield_2 are not working because textfield_1 is on top of him. Can I swap the the arrangement ? I tried the swapDepths but this doesn't work for me Maybe I can disable textfield_1 when I pusch button_2 ??
I am working on a data provider application for class and wanted to take it a step further for usability and add tabbing for navigation, but the tabIndex code I have below does nothing. I would like to tab between the buttons and the textfields. Does tabbing work with data providers?
I should note they are all embedding the desired fonts. But when displaying my flash movie in low quality my text fields no longer appear... changing back to high quality the text fields appear fine.Is there a way to ensure the textfields will appear even at low quality? And what is the reason for them no longer rendering at low quality?
I've imported an external XML file that includes both image and text elements into a textfield, and now I want to format the elements with an external CSS.I've had only limited success. Images appear below the text, instead of inline or aligned Left or Right, Flash ignores DIV or SPAN styles, etc.I don't know if I'm overestimating flash's abilities to render styles.I've attached a zip with the fla and all external scripts, as well as an html of what I'd like the end result to look like.
I've recently been trying to rebuild a project we did at work so that we'd have a better and more flexible architecture for future projects. So far all is done, and work great, but I've been wanting to make the text we use (and we use a lot) easier to modify, so I thought having it outside my Flash/ActionScript files would do it. That way, I can change the text and have it working without having to recompile.
Unfortunatly, I've noticed that having the text in a .txt file puts random linebreaks which I really don't like, but XML severely limits what characters we can put in our text (no " < and so on, unless I'm missing something). Not to mention linebreaks would/could be a pain in an XML.
So, I'm wondering if you guys would have any ideas on how to do this, or even tips on how to do it in an XML or txt file that would work.
Basicly I'm adding dynamicaly sprites and textfields, which i populate from xml, in for loop. I'm building sort of table, so for every sprite, I'm adding new data in textfields. I've loaded xml and passed data to 2 xmllists, both traced and doing fine... Later on I add data from xmllist to array which then I'm looping in for loop.
Problem is that from 1st xmllist, 6 out of 7 textfields are visible, 1 can't be found nowhere :/ from the 2nd xmllist only 1 out of 4 are visible...
I've tried everything, tracing them returns that they are visible, on good position, filled with text, contrasted color from background...
