ActionScript :: Loading External Array Without #include?

Feb 20, 2011

I have created many games using a set of mutidimensional arrays. It is now time for me to make them external arrays to simplify some things. I did so, at first, using the #include. However, this loads the arrays at compile time.My goal is to house the arrays in an external file that is called when the game is loaded, NOT when it is compiled. In this way, the same game could be used with multiple different arrays without me constantly having to recompile it each time. It could just look for a file called "yourArray.as" or something and use that when it is run.

I am not very familiar with XML or javascript, so was trying to figure out how to do this with the arrays that I have already created without having to decode them and put them into another language first, only to have to change them back to actionscript later.

I'm migrating an old project to AS3 and I'm having some problems make the conversion.

&p0=1|0|4|1|8|0|0|29|14|1|6|0&
&p1=1|0|4|1|8|0|0|29|14|1|6|0&

What I'm trying to do is convert all those text variables into an array that will be accessible throughout the presentation.

Professional :: Next Button In Array For Loading External Swf Files?

Jan 5, 2011

Someone here recently helped me immensely with a question I had about creating a previous button in my flash file that would allow the user to click on the button and view the previous swf file.  I'm hoping someone can help me with making the Next button now, too.

I have a movieclip that loads an array of external swf files.  I thought making the next button would be as simple as changing just a select few things to the previous button.However, that's not working.  When I try that, the movieclip doesn't even load the swf files.  Below is my AS2 code for my file.  I bolded the part at the end that is for the previous button.  Does anyone know how to make the previous button?

Professional :: Loading External Audio File In Array?

I have figured out how to load an external video file - and I can play an imported audio file, but I can't seem to use either method to load an external audio file into an array.

Here is my audio code:
var tour_audio:Array = [tour1, tour2];
var my_num:Number= Math.floor(Math.random()*2);
var ChosenSound = tour_audio[my_num];
var playing:Sound = new ChosenSound();
playing.play();

Here is my video code:
var my_videos:Array=new Array ("link1.mp4", " link2.mp4", " link3.mp4", " link4.mp4");
var randomIndex = Math.floor(Math.random()*my_videos.length);
my_player.source = my_videos[randomIndex];
I tried "var tour_audio:Array = ["link1.mp3", "link2.np3"]; - but that did not work.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Include Array Data Inside SWF?

At the beginning of my Flash game, I do some fairly heavy-duty calculations to figure out path-finding and visibility and that sort of thing. Is there a way I can do this calculation once and for all, and then just package up the final datastructures right in the the SWF, so that no one ever has to do the calculations again?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading External Data To An Array Syntax Error?

Jan 25, 2009

I'm trying to load data from an external text file into an array. I created an array and am able to load the data into an array if I explicitly say something like

ActionScript Code:
array[0] = event.target.data.uid1_name;

I can then do a trace statement on array[0] and it will output the correct name from the file. My problem is I'm trying to iterate through the variable names in the text file in the file by using an index variable. This is the code I'm using after doing all the URLloader, URLRequest, and so forth stuff:

ActionScript Code:
for(var i = 0; i<20;i++){
fArray
= event.target.data.uid_name;
}

This produces a syntax error. I've tried several other syntax variations but haven't been able to figure it out. I've also tried the following:

fArray
= event.target.data["uid"+i+"_name"];
fArray = event.target.data.["uid"+i+"_name"];
fArray
= event.target.data."uid"+i+"_name";

All three of those also give me errors. For the first one the trace statement outputs "undefinded" instead of "Doug". For the second I get "syntax error. Expecting identifier before left bracket". And for the third I get "syntax error, expecting identifer before uid.":

syntax to iterate the number after uid(uid1_name, uid2_name, uid3_name, etc)?

Actionscript :: Possible To Use Flash 'include' To Embed External Swf's?

Feb 15, 2011

I'm naturally a PHP coder, but I have to use flash for a part of a project.I was wondering if I have files such as mainsite.swf and page1content.swf, is there a way to simply include the page1content.swf file into a predefined area on the mainsite.swf file (as in PHP's include)?Also, would it be possible to use this flash "include" to embed external swf's?Finally, ideally I'd be able to merge these files together, but from what I've read, it's a tricky business, with filenames, referencing etc, so this is optional.

AS2 :: Professional - Loop To Include All Movie Clips In The Array Without Having To Type Out All Their Names?

Sep 1, 2010

I have a simple array of movie clips ("box1" "box6") that I have created on the stage. I then have a simple onRollOver function that is iterated for each of these movie clips, as shown below. As it is now it's working fine, but I can forsee two potential problems for when I use larger arrays and apply this technique to my real working files.

If I were to have many more movie clips, the first line of code would be much longer as it lists each movie clip instance name. Is there a way to use, for example, a for loop to include all these movie clips in the array without having to type out all their names? As you can see here, I have used a simple numerically-incremented naming process. I think the problem may be that I am using movie clips with instance names assigned on the stage and not created through ActionScript.The function as I have created it makes all the movie clips gotoAndStop(1) and then the one that has been rolled over goes to frame 2. Is there a way of making all the movie clips in the array except the one that has been rolled over gotoAndStop(1), ie. is it possible to exclude the rolled-over movie clip from the first part of the function? Here it works just fine as it is, but I'm thinking that maybe when I start using more complex functions with tweens etc it may cause problems. Or not?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Use #Include For External .AS File In Complex Button?

Jan 22, 2007

On the main timeline I have a movie clip ("Sound Full") on it. The movie clip is being used as a complex rollover button for "revealing" a full sound interface. When the mouse rolls over, the word "Sound" fades out and the panel appears. When rolled off, of course it goes in reverse. I've seen it done in many places...including www.iso50.com.

Anyway, on the timeline for "Sound Full", I have three layers being used for the following...

1) Actions
2) An instance of a graphic symbol ("Sound Text")
3) An instance of a movie clip symbol ("Sound Player)

The Actions are a few lines of code to rewind or play based on whether or not the mouse is over the area or not (as learned directly from [url] And for the instances, I just used motion tweens to have "Sound Text" fading out as "Sound Player" fades in. It's like 5 frames in all. Very quick effect.

The timeline for "Sound Player" is only one frame. Each piece of the player has its own layer (play button, stop button, etc.) and the top layer (also reserved for Actions) has a single line of actionscript where I have written:

[code]...

The problem is that when I test the whole movie...the rollover effects works beautifully, but the buttons in the interface aren't clickable or working at all. I discovered that if I simply tested "Sound Player" by itself...it works perfectly, except there's obviously no rollover effect since "Sound Player" is nested inside of the movie "Sound Full" which is what does the effect.

Does this make sense? Hopefully it does. Anyway, so my question is...

1) Am I missing a basic fundamental rule of Flash in order to make it run smoothly?

2) Is the "tweening" of "Sound Player" possibly messing it up? (Remember, I noticed that when the include line for the external actionscript file was in the same frame as the indiv. player buttons it worked fine.

3) Do you need to see the .fla file to help me out?

4) Bottomline...can you help me out?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Preloader Percent To Include Main Movie And External .swf

Rather than just appear to sit at 100% for 20 secs while it is still loading my external swf, I would like to include the external swf's load time in the preloader data.

This is my "preloader" code on frame 1, which is empty except for the AS. (Just a basic bar and percent preloader.) I included all of my code just in case, so please ignore the font embedding and masking if it makes it easier.
