I am currently building a site with AS3 and have run into a small problem. I Have my Main swf which is the site. Inside that I have a "gallery" which is full of buttons. I have it set up so when you click a button to view a image it loads a separate smaller swf on top of the main swf. What I would like to do is be able to have the smaller swf open in the middle of the main swf and be able to drag it around. How would I go about controlling a swf inside a swf?
I am very new to AS3, and I'm confused about how things that would have been simple in AS2 are so complex and tricky now. For example, I want to create a bunch TextField objects that, for some reason, rise up every frame (as in : object.y-=1; ).However, I also need each TextField to reference the TextField that was created just before it.
I tried creating a variable that would hold such a reference : ThisTextField.Ref=LastTextField; but - this returns an "Access of possibly undefined property..." error. It seems I can only have custom properties on mere Objects ! This is annoying because an Object doesn't seem to accept event listeners (remember, I need them to do something every frame). Is there a way to simply set custom properties on my TextFields, without having to use custom packages ? Or is there a way to use event listeners on Objects ? I've read something about strict mode which could allow setting properties on other objects - what are the risks of turning it off ?
I have some movieclips in my flash proyect, and I want these have the properties and behaviors of buttons, for example to make links with other frames.
I drag the combobox from the library and set the dataProvider through AS.however, I click the combo, the options show, I click an option but the value doesn't change. it's like I clicked outside or something, it simply stays with the same value there.
example:
[option0][v]
*clicks the v arrow*
[option0][v][code]......
I simply drag the object, give it an instance name and set a dataProvider, nothing else.
I recently posted a .swf inside a new window with javascript. everything works fine on a PC, the movie will load on a mac. You should be able to click and drag to "spin" the object within the movie (it cycles a series of photos to give a 360 view), but when on a mac the cursor changes but images are not cycling. i'm sure it could be a number of different things but I'm unsure where to start.
Just been playing around with the tutorials, on the Set properties/Get properties. Everything is all cool, except the "instance name" aspect. I dnt really understand that too well. Is it possible to change an Mc Name dynamically? If you look at my FLA when you hit the top left red button you will get a trace of the mcName as "square". Now if you input a new mc Name on the right hand side, you will see it change on the left hand side. But i want to know why it doesnt remain as the new mc Name, it still goes back to square.
I forgot to put it in the title so I'll just place it here; I am using AS 2.0. I know that there are other ways to accomplish the goal that am after, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to access the properties of an object's properties?

This really just boils down to how I am organizing the code(I have ideas on what do next, and i am 99% sure that I can get them to work), and if there is a way to dynamically access the properties of the objects properties, It will save me from creating yet another large block of code for my project. I want to have an image and when I click on the image ,one can hold down the mouse and drag a copy to where ever on the stage and when one lets go, one can drag another and another with each copy still being able to be dragged after released.this is what i have but its pretty simple and doesn't work....

I have a function that states when movieclip1 is dragged and hits a line then it stops the drag, however it seems to stop the entire drag function in the swf on the other movieclips even though they arent called in the function.[code]
Im trying to do a drag and drop system where the user can drag a movie clip into an area. Although i would like to make it snap to a target instead of just sitting wherever it lands in the area. Problem Two:
The next thing i am trying to do is when the user has a movie clip on a target already, and trys to put another movie clip in that target area, it will replace the one thats in there and go back to its current position. Here is the script of what i have done so far:
I have some movie clips. i want to drag all clips when i drag single movie clip. Ex. I have movie clips "A1", "A2", "A3", "A4", "A5" . Randomly visible some of them. Suppose "A1", "A3", "A4" has visible. When i will drag "A1" movie clip all these "A3", "A4" also move with "A1".
What's the code to start drag and stop drag. I would also like to know what's the code to detect if the object has been dropped on something. I know the code in AS2 but i cant figure it out in AS3.
I am very new to AS3 and I am running into some issues creating a simple class that will allow you to drag and drop and object but then also scale when it is over a hit area. Here is my current code:
i have load in a .swf and this .swf is make up of one drag object. When i load into my _level0, i can drag it but it seem then the drag is not smooth, instead it is lagging. Thus i went back to the indiviual files and try to drag on it and it was not lagging. ...why is it like that? All the files are still on my local disk.
I am creating a Flash website (AS3) which contains multiple columns of swf's. These all have individual "start drag and stop drag" vertically and works fine. My problem is when I try to create start drag stop drag on top of these swf's horizontally - I want to be able to move the whole stage horizontally containing separate columns.
I am not sure how to code it and it ends up locking the "start drag top drag" inside the columns. How can I do this so that each column is scrollable and scroll to other columns without using a scroll bar...

I got a MovieClip which will be a moving platform for a game. And I want to be able to just copy it and place in different places on my game map. But I would also like to give them different values such as, speed, distance to travel, and so on. In As2 I would put all code i needed for the moving platform to work, inside the MoviClip in it's first frame except for the variables, speed and distance which I would put on the MovieClip instead. In a "onClipEvent(load)". Then I could just copy my MovieClip and change those variables. But this do not work in As3 and I wounder if someone knows a good way to do this

The options are Window, Transparent Windowless or Opaque Windowless.I've tried these in the past and they don't seem to have any affect at all.
I have 100+ of the same movieclips on the stage at the same time, all positioned differently.i'm getting really tired of clicking on one of them, then clicking in the instance name box then typing "i65", then clicking on one of them, then clicking in the instance name box then typing "i66"...
is there anyway flash can fill this information in for you? or a plugin anyone's heard of? this isn't really an actionscript question, I'm not so fussed about selecting the different movieclips based on getChildAt or any of that stuff, I'd just really like a faster way of assigning instance names.
I have a few long pieces of music (10 minutes plus) and was wondering if there is any actionscript 2.0 command I can give to basically say either after X.mp3 ends do Y timeline control or even if there is a way to enter in a time so after X minutes do Y timeline control.

I have an MC (button1). When it is pressed, it creates a duplicate, which is automatically being dragged. When released, the movie clip stops dragging. I can repeat this process with the original a number of times. However, I want to be able to click and drag the MC's AFTER they've been duplicated. Once I have this code, then I can add other functions myself (like hitTests, removeMovieClip and so on).
I'm parsing XML file and draw some objects. Each object has it's own class which name is stored in another XML. I also have some .as files with those classes, f.ex[code]...
I'm not shure how to do this. Is it possible to give dynamic names to the types like, khm obj:{classname}=new {classname}?
