May 5, 2009I haven't made a swf file in a very long time. So what is the standard swf file size these days? Surely it can be a little larger now?

May 10, 2009When I preview my flash file it says that the filesize is 29kb. However when I look at the properties of the outputted swf it's coming in a t 36kb. Which is the correct size? Also what extra information is being added to push it up by 7kb?

Jun 24, 2011I made a preloader for my single scene movie and although the preloader is about 16k, when placed into frame 1 of the movie and tested, the frame is shown to have about 256k, which is larger than the movie it's loading. I've gone through all the files and made sure that export in frame 1 is not checked and made sure the publish settings also are set to export in frame 1.

Uploadify - not many releases, latest 12/2010, no documentation (!)
SWFUpload - latest release 03/2010, documentation
fancyupload - looks buggy.
phpfileuploader - looks heavyweight, and looks commercial (?) I cannot read the licence (you can download it but are you allowed to use it forever without paying?) plupload New version of pure javascript (no flash) Valums' ajax upload claims to handle file size limit and progress bar, which is quite suspicious to me: these features require to guess the file size before the upload, which seems impossible in javascript (look also here). Or can it work?

The code is basic but uses a few tags that are not recognized in Flash via HTML import- <h1>,<div> etc. Is there a best practice method for using this code without having to "dummy" down the code for use in Flash? Is there any advantage to importing the xhtml pages as XML and going that route or will I have the same problem?

There is one file that starts buffering, but even when the browser has downloaded the whole video, it still doesn't play. The file is ~300MB.

Jan 25, 2010 Specifically, I attached a swf file to an email and it showed up as 5.9kb I then downloaded that same file from the email and in the finder window the file size was indicated to be 16kb. I further right clicked on the same file located on the desktop and clicked info now the file size was 120kb.
My question is which of these represent the real file size. The reason I ask is that for a class project we are to build a banner ad and the file size is limited to 40kb. I am telling the instructor that it is only 5.9kb she is saying 120 kb.

Jul 23, 2010quick question that I'm stumped on.I'm making a flash banner advertisement to go on a few websites.The guidlines I was given say to adhere to 40kb eachThe only trouble is that the client gave me a 250 kb.swf file that he wanted to be included in the files, so I've imported it as a movie clip, and sized it down (pixel wise) to the appropriate dimensions.The end results end up being about 260kb each.Is there a way to dramatically optimize a .swf file? 40 kb seems pretty unreasonable for a 300 x 250 flash ad. Typically when I do these, they come out to about 100+ kb.
