Capturing Mouse Events In Flash Outside Of Stage Doesn't Work In IE?
Jul 19, 2010
I am trying to capture mouse events in flash while the mouse is being held down. The intention is to keep reciving events as long as the mouse is pressed, even if the cursor leaves the flash element. That's the behavior I get on all browsers other than IE, which only fires events while the cursor is inside the stage.
I'm pretty sure I've seen such "well behaved" flash applets work in IE before.
They all work in all browsers, except for Chrome, where MOUSE_OVER and MOUSE_OUT trigger the events, but MOUSE_UP does not trigger the event. I also tried CLICK, same story.I would suspect that there is some sort of interfering layer or offset in the Chrome rendering, but then wouldn't the other mouse events not register as well?
I have an animation that I want to start when clicking on the flash window. However, I've also have some buttons on the stage. If I add an event listener for MouseEvent.CLICK on the stage, then it 'eats up' the events and the buttons don't work.
I've tried some tricks, by adding some invisible buttons on top of the real ones, and use the MOUSE_OVER event to selectively enable/disable the mouseEnabled flag for the stage, but didn't work because it complains that the property or method doesn't exist (which I find odd).
I have a custom UIComponent that is basically just this:
public class WhiteboardUIComponent extends UIComponent { public function WhiteboardUIComponent() { super();
[Code]....
This is absolutely the simplest that I could make the example. The s:View is gobbling up my mouse events - if I add a handler in the MXML to the View, I get mouse events just fine. When adding a handler programmatically in my subclass' constructor, I get nothing. I thought maybe the layout was wrong, so I explicitly set the dimensions of my UIComponent and stuck it in a border just to be sure it was where it was supposed to be - same deal.
having an issue with some mouse events I have. If you go here you can see what I mean.When you mouse over one of the thumbnail images, a title pops up. If you click one of the thumbnails, the group shifts to the right. (This is making room for what I'm working on right now, it's not just random ) If you then navigate to "About" or "Contact" then back to "Works" neither the mouseovers nor the clicking on the thumbnails works.That middle section is one object called "images" with three frames, each labeled and then navigated to inside the buttons with gotoAndStop(frame#).Here is my code for the buttons and mouseovers:
These issues only appear on Safari and Firefox on Mac.I tested with Opera and Chrome and Windows (inc. IE), but they work fine.
Mac OS 10.6.8 Firefox 5.0.1 Safari 5.1 Flash CS5.5
1 Hiding the original black arrow cursor (Firefox only)When cursor rollovers to an Invisible button (oneBtn), I want to show custom cursor (newCursor) and hide mouse. But Firefox shows the custom cursor as well as the black arrow...
2. Mouse.show doesn't work only on Safari, Mac.When rollout to the invisible button (oneBtn), the custom cursor (newCursor) hides but the mouse doesn't appear. This happens only on Safari.
I have a very simple piece of code but it has one very annoying bug. When I press the button a second time, the code doesn't work. The only way to get the code to work is by moving the mouse a tiny bit, or moving the mouse off the button and back on. make a button that can be clicked many times without moving the mouse?
My problem is that I'm not sure how to make the MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER work, to recognize that the mouse is still ON the area and so pubsBox should continue to move 10 pixels to the left every second. I understand that i have to use a Timer, but what I'm concerned about is the fact that I can't get Flex to recognize that the mouse is still OVER "wrapper" and continue firing the event.
I have an external .swf that I'm loading into a main one. The external one has actionscripting which reacts to the mouse. When exported on it's own, the scripting works fine but when loaded into the main one, nothing works. There are no references to the _root in the external swf either.

Here is my code for the buttons and mouseovers:
Code: //Navigation links var navTween:Tween nav.about.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, mouseClick);
I have a small animation that moves based on the Y coordinate of the mouse. My client wants the animation to stop once you move your mouse off the Flash Movie. I've tried to explain that Flash does not listen for mouse events on the browser but they are pretty adamant.
So, I'm I'm just checking to see if anyone knows of any "non-javascript" ways to get flash to continue to get mouseY coordinates outside the flash movie. Or, at the very least, tell when the mouse has left the flash movie so that I can stop the animation.
I'm using PanZoomComponent in my application. When a user holds down control key with mouse press, I want to show hand tool by making PanZoomComponent object's property childPreventsPan = false; In short at combination of control key and mouse press I want to show Hand tool if not cursor.
how to disable ALL stage mouse events. My problem is that I want to ignore mouse events. know how to enable and disable buttons etc but I need to go one level further and disable the event listener that looks out for mouse events.
When I press a key when the mouse is over the image I expect the label text to change to "Something", but nothing happens. I've done all sorts of combination of enabled and putting the keyDown on the canvas and the label as well.
I have noticed that when I load an external swf, I lose my stage event listeners while my mouse is inside of the loaded swf. Is there a way to fix this?
Code: // load the swf var swfContainer:MovieClip = new MovieClip(); container.addChild(swfContainer);[code]....
I have about 100 movieclips that scroll across the stage from out of bounds. They are supposed to hit another movieclip both in bounds and out of bounds, but it seems like Flash only detects the hittest when it happens within the frame.
my problem is that I have in main timeline movie1, who have movie2 in side, and movie2 have movie3 inside it. in movie3 is buttons like in the tutorial. so i try to replace _root with _level2 but doesn't work on mouse button AS.
i am trying to do a simple blackboard on mouse down, start drawing on mouse move, if drawing, draw line on mouse up, stop drawing i set the listeners on a simple clip with a rectangle. if i dont fill the rectangle, the mouse events wont fall into the rectangle, but if i fill the rectangle, it will paint behind the rectangle, so anyway i wont see any succesfull results. what i did was create another sprite and paint within it; something like
I have a little snippet of code that allows the user to create a line with the mouse, and clears the line if they end up touching the hitbox with the mouse, while they're drawing the line. It works fine when it's just thrown onto the main timeline. However, when I try to encapsulate it within a movie clip, it suddenly doesn't work. At all. Are there any suggestions as to why this is happening? Here's the code.
I have a MovieClip with two buttons inside of it (bottom portion) When I mouse over the MovieClip - it rises up, to revewl the buttons. My problem is, when I mouse over the buttons, the movie clip drops back down. The buttons don't have any actions upplied to them... It acts as though buttons were standing between the cursor and the movie clip... The idea is to hower over the movie clip > reveal the buttons > either move mouse away or click on one of the buttons. However, the movie clip closes when I touch either one of the buttons. Below is the code and thnks a bunch ahead of time:
I added a movieclip and named "bot_mc" in another movieclip. Then, In Action panel, I use bot_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.DOWN, xxxx). However, when I drag and drop the container movieclip on the main stage and compile. There is no error occurs but the MouseEvent doesn't work.
Right now all the sounds (78 of them) on my guitar play using the roll_over event but that doesn't give the user much control over what sound is played.
The actionscript im using to play my sounds is this;
I've created a drawing app via AS and I'm trying to design a button that when pressed, the user essentially saves his/her drawing as an image file into a certain directory on the web
So i would like to know if its possible to have stage capture(like a screen grab) i have a user generated game that allows them to design an image, but i also want to be able to allow them the submit their drawing after they are completed. writing the code for the submit button(that captures the stage). And the second part how would i let them submit it?
I finished creating a vertical scrolling news ticker for a client, but I've run into a problem. I use .html to create functional anchor tags within flash. I need to create a capture event when the mouse changes from the pointer to a hand on the anchor links. I'd spent the morning googling for help, and reading all of my resource books, and I still don't know how to create a capture event for mouse hand cursors. I'm attaching the code in question. It works as intended.
