My idea is to be able to have a number of different objects on the side of the stage, kind of in a toolbar, then to be able to click (and thus select) one of them and place it another area in the room with another click (basically placing it, deselecting it and fixing it in place where I clicked).
I'd then like to be able to re-click it and reposition it by dragging, if I so wish.
Basically what I need is to have a permanent web conference room in my web application to handle remote interviews.
This means that any user of the web application can get access to the room and have an interview with another user of the same web application, I need only 2 connection at the same time.[code]...

i am starting a project for our church that it will look like a game, each logged in users will be able to attend different types of the room such as prayer room, visitors room etc and will be able to interact each other.
with having a just brief rough idea, i figured that i need to have a socket server and socket class for it. (i tried to make a chatting room with just urlvariable and php mysql but it seems its more appropriate to use the socket server.
well the site will be more focused on the CONNECTION between the logged users and they will need to be able to interact each other when they are viewing photos, videos, sharing thoughts, prayers, etc, and for that matter socket server seems must.
but i do not have any knowledge on the server socket, how to make em and how to set up them. can someone please give me a insight or direction where i should start and look for ?
i figured php isnt suitable for a socket server(which is the only language that i know of) so i m lookin into java or python but i have no idea what to do.

View 1 RepliesThe server hosting our FMS does not have space to adequately store the media files over time. I have since connected a 500GB external drive to the server. This drive is mapped as the Z drive. I am not exactly sure how I need to edit my application.xml for all http requests to point to this external drive. Below is a small sample of the file. How would I correctly edit this file? Would I just add a line that says <Streams>/;${Z:VOD_DIR}</Streams> ? Do I need to delete either of the below lines?

I'm creating a Flash presentation, and the user wants to be able to change the text on any screen from Flash itself. This was my original my idea (I don't have much experience in AS):
1 - Put all the text in a text file (XML or plain).
2 - Make AS read the text and fill in the text fields in the Flash presentation.
3 - When it's needed to change the text content, execute the Flash presentation with a parameter that will tell AS to show all the fields as INPUT.
4 - Save the new text in the text file via PHP.
But I have been asked if it would be possible to avoid the use of a text file (and the server connection with PHP) and change the swf text content directly with AS. Is this possible? I have been googling it but with no success. I have the idea that this wouldn't be possible but i don't know all the possibilites in the Flash environment.

View 1 RepliesI need to make my Flash application create a connection to a remote application and have the remote application send periodic updates to my Flash animation. The remote app is written in VB 6, and does not support XML sockets. However, I don't need the ability to send or receive XML since I am going to be overriding the onLoad() event anyway.
Or maybe I do need that ability... I'm having trouble getting my onLoad() event to trigger. Right now I'm just testing the onLoad event like this:

So, basically I'm trying to find out how I can format the data I'm sending it so that the onLoad() event triggers. I've read that the XMLSocket object listens for the Null byte, so perhaps the data I'm sending it doesn't terminate properly. I need a persistent connection from Flash to the VB app because the VB app will be the one initiating the updates to the Flash application. Is the XMLSocket the way to go here, or is there another class of objects that I'm missing?

Just pointing and clicking? I loaded up my file for folks to look at.. I guess my big question is what I did wrong.. I thought i set up the buttons correctly and my Event Listeners.

View 3 RepliesI have a function called addRoom.A scroll pane with thumbnails of rooms, each thumbnail is a button. The viewport is empty by default. When I click a button the function is called, it adds a room to my viewport. If I click another button a new room is added but the first room still remains. How do I get the first room to be removed? I assume there is something wrong with my index.

If everybody in one chat room can use rtmfp, we go with rtmfp if anybody in the chat room disabled his rtmfp, we go with rtmp.
Now I need to create a logic to decide if everybody can use rtmfp between each other, Is there a good way to do so?

I don't want to visually arrange 3D models dragging them with the mouse, all I want is: Given a room of certain dimensions (L,W,H) and given a set of elements like beds, chairs, etc (with L,W,H dimensions, of course) I want to automatically arrange those elements to take advantage of the space as much as I can. So I want to be able to put as much furniture as I can in a given room. At the end I need to represent the arranged items visually, inside the room.
My first thought was to use an array of items and sorting it with array.sortOn(["l","w","h"] Array.NUMERIC) and then define a gap between the objects and make the maths to put the objects one next to another, etc. but that isn't a good approach because some items may be placed on top of another ones (boxes of the same size, boxes on top of tables, etc).
I want to make a virtual tour of a room in Flash / Flex. How can this be achieved? Firstly, is it enough to have pictures taken from a still point? If yes, how can I turn them into a real tour? Also, is there a library for this kind of thing for AS3?

I'm trying to create an application that has three movieclips that when rolled over show a movie clip over everything that the user reads then they drag one of three pictures over to the corresponding movieclip. I have the Movieclip alpha down until roll over but i had issues with layer order. If its on top i cant access the drag items beneath it and if its below i cant see it.I tried using swapChild but then it makes it crazy. The DragItem "sticks". It shows up on pages it shouldn't (i have it on one frame but it sticks to everything and i cant get rid of it). It works when im on the current frame so i must be close?

I'm trying to create a flash application where the user can add points (I call them draggers) and he can move those points around an image. What needs to happen is that I will use these points and their coordinates to change the image.
What I need help on is how to accomlish the rotation. Let's say the user has added three points on the stage, and they want to rotate the three points along the center of whatever triangle they form.

I was wondering how to make a .fla file to be opened and read by flash and have all the elements required using my own program.the motivation behind this is that i want to create a whole lot of swf files that are all pretty similar but won't ever just be slight modifcations to a base file... that and it requires a lot of data to place certain objects in places and set their keyframes to specific things etc.so i wanted to automate creating the .fla files. how to create a .fla file without flash?

Could something like that be built using as3?My idea is that it uses alpha to know, where to start adding the shapes. In php its possible to read every pixel of an image, to check its color, so we can know if it is alpha or not, so i think there is something similar in as3.
