Facebook :: Possible To Use SWC Files With Flash CS3 Professional?
Jun 7, 2011
I hate CS5, so I'm trying to stick with CS3. However, I'm doing a Facebook app, and I need to use the GraphAPI, which is a swc file. So far, I cannot figure out how to use the swc file with Flash CS3 Professional. CS5 has a "browse to swc file" option in "Publish Settings". CS3 does not - only "browse to folder". Is this even possible in CS3, or is my only option to switch over to CS5? (Again, I'm talking about Flash Professional, not Flash Builder.)

I am developing a facebook application which sits in an application tab.The app is developed in flash and as such must use fb:swf to embed the swf.Therefore it sets allowScriptAccess = never on the swf.There are 3 things that I will need to do, and I am not sure if it will be possible.1) Load external SWF files into the parent swf2) Load dynamic XML from the server3) Upload files to the serverI am using flash 10.

I'm currently building an application using the Adobe Facebook API and I've run into an issue where for the login method the Facebook login popup displays but when doing a Facebook share/post the popup is blocked.
This code works fine and displays me a Facebook login popup without question (Firefox):
var permissions:Array = ['publish_stream'];
Facebook.login( onFacebookLogin, { perms:permissions.join(',') } );
However, the following code running in the same application throws up a popup blocker (again Firefox):
Facebook.ui( "stream.publish", "popup", params );
Does anyone know of a work around this issue to make the share popup come up just like the login popup?

Can Facebook apps be written in Flash CS3 or do I have to use Flex? I'm more comfortable with Flash, but it seems geared toward Flex.One of the Facebook SDK examples (FriendsList_flash) contains an FLA file but it won't load in Flash CS3. Does it require a new version or am I doing something wrong?

I'm trying to integrate a Flash Professional/AS3 game into Facebook. The swf is hosted on a secure (https) server. The swf has to connect to a SmartFoxPro socket server on another domain.I'm using the Facebook Actionscript API to interface with Facebook. (Should I use PHP, instead? I read an article that recommends using PHP, because the Actionsrcipt API may not be kept up to date.) When I fire up my app, I get a "Security Information" pop-up box saying that the page contains both secure and nonsecure items. I click "yes" to all the display of the nonsecure items.
Then, I get an "XD Proxy blah-blah-blah" popup. This pop-up goes away, and then my app logs in to my SmartFox server.So... What is this "XD Proxy" window? I think it looks unprofessional, and users may think there's an error with the app. Also, can I block or hide the "Security Information" pop-up? Why don't I see this in other FB apps?

I'm trying to determine the practical difference between using the com.facebook.session.WebSession and com.facebook.session.JSSession. The documentation () has more around WebSession - but the example I have which is closest to what solution I'm trying to implement uses JSSession and it looks like I could avoid all of the JavaScript pass-through & ExternalInterface calls I'm making. It appears that the benefit of using this new ActionScript Facebook API is to avoid having to make all of the Facebook calls via JavaScript.

I have a facebook application where the user choose 4 of his friends and then it creates a video (swf) with the pictures of your friends in it (loaded via xml). So I need to share this video on the user timeline. Everything works fine but the video is not embedded in the post on his timeline, there is only a post with the link to the page in it.The weird thing is, if I post the url directly on my timeline, the video is embedded, but not if the same link is posted via the application.here is my code called by the share button in js :
function postToFeed() {
var obj = {
method: 'feed',
.........

I've recently used the 'Static HTML' application to add autoplaying flash content to a Facebook Page.Nothing too fancy, no sound, and only a few secs long. Now, Facebook say:-"Apps on Pages must not host media that plays automatically without a user's interaction."
What do they mean by 'Media' exactly? I can understand a ban on autoplaying audio content but does the ban extend to something as harmless as an animated GIF? Or more to the point, does an autoplaying .swf file fall under this?
Lastly, what course of action would Facebook take if I did violate this rule? Would they issue a warning (giving me an opportunity to remove the 'offending' item) or would they just shut down my page without any consultation?

I installed Flash CS4 Professional trial version for school use. It wouldn't install successfully. I deleted the font files the troubleshooting guide said to, tried again, but gave up. (I'm afraid to run regedit and mess up everything else I have loaded.) (I previously had the Fireworks CS4 trial version loaded, then uninstalled it.) My problem is this- I have it running, but it saves files and then they can't be opened, even if I use the save function often- it's worse when I create the file, test the movie and then save.If I try to open it again, it says "cannot open file." Once it opened a copy I had saved, and it appeared blank, even though it was 544 kb file size. I only need it for a few more days, one more assignment and I'm afraid my previous files are corrupt. I have Windows Vista Home Edition.

I am constructing a Flash animation and I was hoping to build it by scenes. These scenes would be individual SWF movies that I could import into my final Flash file in consequential order and when finished I would have a completed Flash Movie. There would be no interaction beyond Play/and replay. Where can I get information on how to construct this and is this a recomended way to do it?

I'm working on a Flash/Facebook game. My swf and socket server are on different domains, so I have to use a socket policy file. According to Adobe, they have "filed with IANA, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, to reserve port 843 for the purposes of serving socket policy files." Unfortunately, my server has port 843 closed. I asked my server guy to open the port. Here's his reply:
One of the points Matt mentioned is even if we open that particular port how would you ensure the scores of people accessing this game from their schools, libraries or even people internal to OurCompany will have connectivity on the port. Let me explain, in order for traffic to flow on port 843 from the browser to the smart fox server, the users ISP also has to allow for that traffic to pass outbound from the users browser. It is possible that several users would not be able to run it, is that risk acceptable ?
How common is it for ISPs to block port 843? I assumed that, since this is an Adobe standard, that ISPs would now have it open by default. What's the scoop?

I've recently started putting together a Facebook Connect AS3 app and retrieving objects and images through the Graph API.Running anywhere but locally, I receive security errors of the form: SecurityError: Error #2122: Security sandbox violation: Loader.content: xxxx cannot access url...A policy file is required, but the checkPolicyFile flag was not set when this media was loaded.If I add a line of the form:
One thing I'd considered was retrieving the crossdomain policy file on a per image basis, capturing the domain from the image URL before making the image request. Unfortunately, at least via the Graph solution (and I haven't looked too closely at the others), their servers resolve the image url after the request is made, from something more generic like: url...Has anyone found a more dependable means of ensuring that images can be retrieved without security sandbox violations? Or do Facebook maintain a definitive list that developers need to keep an eye on?

I recently developed an Adobe AIR App, for uploading images to a Facebook User's Album,which worked well! But now, as I tryed to migrate the AIR App to an Flash App, which is supposed to do exactly the same, I am experiencing one problem:
Actually everything works fine: The App Initialization, The User Login & Permission (establishing a session), BUT: Once i make the call for uploading a BitmapData, I do NEVER get ANY response / the handler does never get called:
var values:Object = { message:'This photo was created by ProFileIzer', fileName:'filename', image:new BitmapData(50,50, false, 0xFF0000) }; Facebook.api('/me/photos', handleUploadCompleted, values, 'POST');
There is also a Flex sample provided, which I am not able to test, as I am using Flash. So if someone smart got any idea, or probably could test if the sample works.....

I can't find in the Adobe Facebook API how to log the user out of Facebook. The FacebookSessionUtil (and the related sessions and Facebook classes) all have a .logout() function, which will invalidate the user's current *session* within the swf, but it doesn't log the user out of Facebook.
What am I missing here? How are you supposed to log the user out of Facebook with this API? Since it's part of the TOS for Facebook Connect apps, you'd think this would be available in the API somewhere.

I make all the Flash banners for my company including onsite events and IMAX films. There are pre made banners that I (we) are allowed to download and use from trusted sites (Paramount/Universal/IMAX/ etc). These are sent out so we can plug in our branding to promote the films locally. In the past year, all the Flash files that I have downloaded or had mailed to me on a disc will not open. The error that I get says:Failed to open document./Users/myname/Desktop/Flash Banners/FLASH/genericflashfile.fla.I first though that maybe the studios were using CS4 or now CS5, but the icon that comes with the .fla files are definetly CS3. I even purchased the SWF Decompiler as a work around, but once I decompressed the swf file, and then re-exported as a fla file, I received the same failed to open error.Files I create on my own work fine.I was wondering if I missed an update for CS3, but I double checked and am up to date.

I have a couple of Flash CS5 users who are having problems saving files. They can open the file, edit/make changes to the file and save it and from all appearances the save has been successful - the save progress bar has popped up and completed and everything "looks" ok.
However the file changes were not saved. This problem is intermittent, however if it is occuring in the current flash "session" then it will affect all save actions performed - including attempting to save the existing file under a new filename. I've checked for obvious problems on the PC including disk errors and readonly files and so on but I'm otherwise at a loss to explain why this is happening?
