Flash 9 :: CS3 - Why .fla So Large With Barely Anything In It

Sep 18, 2008

I started a project with AS3 set as the publish settings. So far there is barely anything in my library, a couple embeded fonts, movieclips made all with vector in flash and a coulple really small sound files. I did have a large image and some other stuff to test the preloader but I deleted all of the large file stuff out of the library. Anyways, it's a whopping 150MB and now it's starting to get buggy.

Does working with AS3 store data up somewhere where I can't delete it? Does importing packages or classes have anything to do with it? Theres no way this .fla should be 150MB with the little stuff I have in the library now.

Flash :: Import A Large File FLV?

May 26, 2010

I'm working on a project currently and need to import a large file FLV into flash. It's not over the 16000 frame issue as I've checked this. I'm in Flash CS4 and have an animation in 1080p res. It will import up to about 4653 frames fine but it will be only part of the complete file. Is there any way around this? We're using this as a cross platform container to alleviate video programs and compatibility issues for training. In the Publish settings we can export for Mac and windows options etc.

From my computer I cannot even see the message. The helpdesk person said there are possibly two reasons for it. Either there is a problem with the code in flash or it is too large. Are they too large to upload? If so, what is the maximum size of file can I upload on a webpage?I know they are basic questions but I am trying to create website on my own.

Flash - Tween Large Bitmap Without Lag?

Jan 24, 2012

I'm using a 3800x3000 bitmap as a background of a game.

Now, I first show the whole bitmap - the landscape -, and than zoom in at the characters. I'm using TweenMax from GreenSock, but even with this advanced tween class my bitmap doesn't move and scale smooth.

I'd like to work with smaller bitmaps too and scale them, but than I'll lose the quality, and I can't blur the bitmap to hide the quality loss, since there's a terrain in the bitmap too, and I don't want to blur that.

Flash :: Run A Program That Large And Complicated From A Drive?

I've have flash cs3 installed on my computer at home and flash mx 2004 installed on my school pc. I like to take my projects home with me to work on, the only problem is when I take the fla back to school they won't work on mx. I cant update the school's flash since I dont have admin privileges to install programs and I can't make an mx fla at home.

My question is: Would it be possible to copy the entire 300mb flash cs3 onto a 8gb flash drive and run it on the school's computer or is it even possible to run a program that large and complicated from a flash drive?

Actionscript 3 :: Flash Performance With Large Bitmaps?

Apr 20, 2011

i have a AS3/FL10 based application that renders/animates/filters (blur) large PNGs (1 per view) (about 1100x900 px, roughly 2mb). Due to the fact that the fans start spinning like crazy on my notebook, i wonder if this is considered "bad practise". Unfortunately i need transparent images, so JPG is not a choice. Additionally, the PNGs are loaded dynamically, so embedding the files to the flash file (for utilizing flash jpg compression) is not a choice either.

How do you guys deal with large bitmaps in flash

I have some pretty large PNG images stored in a database (example 1000x15000 px, 4.5MB). I am trying to load this using the Loader class...the problem I am having is when I call load(), nothing happens. No events, no errors.I can take the same image and embed it. As long as as I set the height to less than 8000px it works fine. If I convert the embedded image to a ByteArray and try to load it, nothing happens.

Flash 10 :: CS4 Crashing With Large Transparent PNG Files

Dec 29, 2010

I'm working together with some designers to build a project in flash CS4. They normally send me their work as either jpg's or png files. When importing a sequence of png files I find that flash slows down considerably... but not only that, when I try to copy and paste a symbol that contains transparent png in their timeline it crashes. For instance if I select a frame which contains a movieclip with png's inside from the general timeline, and try to paste that frame on another layer I will get a message of Flash stopped working and eventually it just closes down. I tried this on a version of Flash CS5 and it also has the same problem but worse, as soon as you press Control + C the whole thing closes down. I'm suspecting this is caused by large transparent png files, but I'm not sure.

Flash 10 :: Optimizing A Large Vector Movieclip?

Apr 3, 2011

I have an extremely complicated (10 frames, 3 layers, around 200 objects per layer) vector object, and wish to create 5 instances of this object in my SWF simultaneously. Unsurprisingly, attempting such a feat causes my program to slow down dramatically.

I can freely combine the layers, convert to bitmap or whatever is needed, although the object is very often rotated in my ActionScript code, and is at the third layer of a much larger object. What would be the best (reasonably fast, as I need to repeat this process 10 times, on 10 seperate frames each time) way to optimise this object to increase the run speed without hitting load times too drastically? (The size of the object in question is 7x700 'pixels')...

IDE :: Large Flash File Not Compiling Tweens

Feb 4, 2009

I have a large Flash presentation consisting of 12 slides. When exporting or previewing the movie all of the tweens appear corrupted. They flicker on the first keyframe - go blank - then display the last keyframe all static. I'm using CS3 on a MacBook Pro 2.4GHZ with 2GB of Ram. I have a dual boot setup and the same thing happens in both OS X and Windows XP. I've found a laborious work around in that if I go into each movieclip, and nested movieclip, move the timeline slider then re-export... that particular tween will then animate correctly. I can go through the entire file and thereby export the SWF with animations in tact... But this takes a lot of time and every time I restart my machine it has to be done again from scratch to export the file.... This has happened before on a large Flash file and I reinstalled Flash from scratch and it didn't fix it.

I'm wondering if this could potentially be a bug relating to how much RAM I have? I sent the file to someone who has 4GB of RAM on their PC and it exports correctly. I will be doing a lot of presentations of this nature and would like to know if there is a way to fix this bug or if it is really related to how much RAM you have and how big the Flash file is??

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Tweening A VERY Large Image

Mar 6, 2011

I am working on a project for a client, and our designer has created a very large (7000px wide by about 600px high) image, which is split up into several 'screens'. The image is one long continuous image, so can't really be 'chopped up'. There are left/right arrows on either side of the scene which, when clicked, go to the next screen and play a short animation (basic movieclip fades/movement etc) for that screen.

My problem is that the panning left and right is starting to get a bit jerky - most likely Flash not being able to cope with tweening such a large image. Is there an easy alternative to using tweens in this case? I'm using TweenLite (AS3). I am happy to provide an SFW/FLA, but only in private to an experienced developer, hope thats ok.

Flash :: Saving Large Images Created In Flex?

Nov 25, 2009

I am attempting to capture a very large image that was made dynamically within the Flash Player (the size of the image is 2400px by 12,000px) and am running into some very serious issues... Let me run down how the image get's to that size in the first place:

User adds elements to a canvas and then when the user is finished the canvas scales up to 2400px wide and ~12,000px tall. The problem arises when I attempt to save the image to the hard drive. Now, I dont know if this will affect the recommended fix, but the rendered image wont be saved on the hard drive, it will be sent to a server. I know about the ~4050px limit in Flash Player and was thinking I could get around that by clipping the images with the ImageSnapshot.captureBitmapData() method and keeping the required Rectangle variable below 4000px then repeat that down the large image until it reaches the end where the final images will be pieced together at a later time. However... As i mentioned the error comes when it reaches the 'fileReference.save(pngImage);' method..

Flex :: Workarounds For Flash Bug When Drawing Large Shapes?

Dec 12, 2009

When you use Graphics object to draw very large shape(that does not fit in 10000x10000 pixels) stroke width may become much wider than value specified in lineStyle function. For now I have only two options:

1. When drawing line you can split it into several lines. However this trick does work only for drawing lines, polylines and polygons. There is no way to apply this to drawing circles and ellipses. Well, we can approximate circles via bezier curves, but this approach seems to be very inefficient.

2. Perform manual cliping. But this require manual implementation of different cliping techiniques, and I think ActionScript does not suit well for this sort of task. And again there is need to approximate visible parts of large circles.

Actionscript 3 :: Streaming Large Amounts Of Data From Flash?

Nov 2, 2010

I'm currently working on a project where I generate a large amount of audio data to be stored on a users machine.

It works fine for small amounts of data but as the memory usage grows the flash application begins to struggle and eventually dies.

I've been thinking about possible ways to overcome this problem and I was thinking instead of storing all the data in memory (sometimes up to 100mb) a possible solution may be to stream the data to a server (44100 float numbers per second) as it is is being generated then once the accumulation of data has ended sending it back to the client.

1) can you see any problem with this idea and if so could you offer a better alternative?
2) could you reccommend a good server technology to achieve this?

Edit 1

To add more detail.

I am generating audio on the client using the sound.extract method. As the audio is being sent to the speaker I also send it to a byte array.

Once the user has hit a stop button I prepend a wav header to the audio data in the bytearray and allow the user to download a wav of the audio they have just being listening to.

Ideally I didnt want to impose a limit of how much data the user could save. This may not be possible.Storing all this audio data in memory was causing severe performance problems in flash. I don't know of any way to incrementally store this data on the client machines so I was thinking a solution may be to incrementally stream the data to a server somewhere to reduce the memory load.

Flash :: Generating Individual SWF's With Classes From A Fla With A Large Library

Jan 10, 2011

I have a series of large fla files that were being published into swc's and then used directly in an flash project. Probably a total of 1000+ objects. As the number grows the final compiled swf is getting quite large so I want to download individual swf's of each object only as needed. I then need to be able to access and clone the object via classname from the final AS project.

The issue is the only way I have found to export each one is to 1) copy and paste it into a new fla file 2) double click to 'edit' it to force it included, 3) reset the linkage (class) name since it was wiped, 4) publish (i.e. file->publish) and name this swf. This will take quite a while for 1000+ of these.

While you can right-click on each item in the library to save it as a swf, it appears NOT to include the classname etc, just the item. Once I download this, I cannot clone to use it more then once without downloading it again which is unacceptable.

Is there a faster/better way to generate these swf's?

(I did look into xfl briefly but it looks like writing a script to do this given some of the unknowns there will take longer then just doing it by hand.)

Flash :: Optimize Loading Of Hd .flv Video With Large Size

Apr 2, 2011

There is a simple html page with intro video (.mp4 file). Video frame size is 1280*1024 (I need video to be as large as page up to 1280 px).

With such quality settings video file size is:

.mp4 = 42 mb (HD 1690*1080)
.flv = 32 mb (1280*1024, 25 fps)

For video playing I used as3 sample script (because there must be only playpause, replay, mute buttons with custom styles), like that

var strSource:String = "video.flv";
// create a new net connection, add event listener and connect
// to null because we don't have a media server

[Code]....

The problem is that I can't find a way to play it smoothly. It's loading in very annoying way, video is interrupted after each few seconds of playing.

I understand that the main problem is large video file size and hd quality, but may be there is some way to largely decrease .flv size or handle playback in more friendly way?

Flash :: Display Data Contained In A Large XML Document?

May 20, 2011

I have a large flash project and I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle it. I want to load in an XML file of groups and their members, and a bunch of attributes related to each group and its respective members - but these groups and members are only displayed on screen after a user clicks on their parent groups. My first thought was to just pull in the XML for the whole tree of groups and users, then assign movie clips for the groups, and attach properties related to their display and how the user will interact with them - but if they may never appear on screen, is it pointless to do this? How do I best structure this project? Build an object and attach properties only to the object, then add display data only on click?

In reality, it should be running in a 800x800px environment. I've tried messing with the stage size and doing things like setting it to FULL_SCREEN and NORMAL and that had no effect. However, attempting to compile the project through the command line with the mxmcl (although it gives different errors atm) show me that the window is properly sized at 800x800px, so it is obvious that the flash builder is the one that resizes it.
