IDE :: Loader Class Still Confined To 2880 Pixels In One Dimension

Feb 21, 2009

I'm making a pokemon clone, mostly for the learning / instructional value. I've had little trouble loading in my tilesheet for the maps, but recently I decided to use a different sheet. Lo an behold, the data loads, but an Event.COMPLETE never fires, and if I look into the contentLoaderInfo, I see the data is null. However, it's only with the one tilesheet I want to use! Other sheets load just fine. It turns out, the issue is that the tile sheet was originally 256 x 15008. With flash 10, we're supposed to be able to work with bitmapData of max 8000-something in one dimension.

So I redistributed the sheet to be within the 8-thousand limit. Again, it failed to load. It wasn't until I got both of the dimensions within 2880 that it actually loaded. Thus, while we're supposed to be able to edit huge bitmaps, apparently the Loader class still can't load an image with a dimension greater than 2880? 2880 is the previous (flash 9) limit on a bitmap data. My sprite sheet is a png 24. So there's a chance this is just a png thing, but I did try to save it as a gif and load that... it fired a complete but it was completely blank once it was loaded in.

It seems that is difficult for me as the dimensions are known after the image compete loaded. But i don't know how to pass this information from completeHandler event handler to the Main class.

Actionscript 3 :: Dynamically Alter The Main Timeline Display Dimension To Match A Loaded 3D Swf's Dimension To Keep Source 3D Properties?

Dec 16, 2010

The issue I'm having is that I have a main "wrapper" 100x100 (but it could be any size) - it's just there to hold and display whatever content, swf, gif, etc we may want to throw into it. As long as the loaded content doesn't have 3D animation like rotationY going on, it displays fine. But when it does, the 3D "anchor" properties (like projectionCenter) of the loaded swf inherit those of the main timeline (i.e. 100x100 (main) vs 728x90 (loaded)). If I change the dimension of the main "wrapper" in Flash IDE to match what's coming in - the 3D behaves fine, but I won't know what the dimensions of the content will be until it comes, so I need a way (if there is one) to dynamically alter the main "wrapper" or root display object through AS. Stuff like "this.width = loader.width" or "stage.width = loader.width" or "root.width = loader.width" etc doesn't work. Flex has the hBox and vBox

ActionScript Code:

As3 :: Flex - Handling Inverted Pixels In BitmapData And Bitmap Class

Mar 29, 2010

I am using bitmapData and bitmap classes to render a mouse cursor on the display screen. The bitmapData consists of an area whose colors should be inverted according to the background color. This is a very basic thing which could be observed with text cursor(the vertical line with two small horizontals on top and bottom), when moved over the text area. want to be able to do the same with the pixels in my bitmapData, is there a way to find out the background color effectively and invert the color values? In this process i will be redrawing the whole pixels, is there any other efficient way to do that ?

Any Workarounds For 2880 Pixel Size Limit?

May 8, 2007

I have a client that would like a Flash animation that's 5440 pixels wide, to span 3 widescreen monitors for a tradeshow presentation. Flash won't let me make the stage any bigger than 2880 - does anyone know any ways around that limit?I Googled it and found out that you used to be able to scale the SWF beyond 2880 in an HTML file, and it would show well using Flash Player 7, but apparently that trick no longer works in Players 8+.Any other ways to make a single SWF that can span 3 large monitors?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Canvas Size Limit 2880 But Image Width 5000

Aug 20, 2010

My artist drew a beautiful island but it's 5000 in width. We scroll it as it's for a Virtual World. - it's in layers and we scroll the different layers at different speeds. Flash documentation states that the limit is 2880 BUT it does work in the player i.e.: you can see the full island but it does run a little slow.

Should I
a. Create a smaller island of 2880 which is a shame as I would have to get rid of a lot of good stuff
b. Split it into two images and dynamically connect them with code.

Also, I have different layers scrolling at different speeds which would make things more difficult to look natural.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loader Class As Lame?

Sep 14, 2009

my application needs to load an swf into something that looks and acts like a video player. so you can scrub through the parts that are loaded and see the progress of the load. im not using any pre-fab video components, but to make it work i need to know which frames are loaded and i need to be able to skip to them.

1) to know how many frames are loaded (not bytes!) and
2) to be able to skip to a loaded frame before the movie finishes loading.

it seems to me that using the Loader class you can do neither. sure, you can check progress with bytesloaded (not useful to me) but you cant do ANYTHING to the swf, programmatically, until it is fully loaded! am i wrong about this?

[Code]...

if you look at the comments in the code above you see my problem. if i cant see which frames are loaded or skip to them before the movie is finished loading, the user has to wait until the movie is done loading before they can start no navigate and i can't show them a meaningful loading progress bar like they have on video players (bytes doesnt tell me how much "time" is loaded)

am i the only one who thinks its crazy that in flash, which is all about showing content quickly while it loads, you cant do anything with the swf until its complete? am i missing something or is this a real limitation?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Memory Leak In The New Loader Class?

I am making an application where I load a picture from the web at a rate of once per second. here is the code: what this does is load a picture when you click the screen, then unloads it when you click the picture. do it a few times and notice that the numbers (which show System.totalMemory) only go up but never go down to their original amount...

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading Image Using Loader Class

Jan 17, 2010

I'm trying to load images using the loader class but it doesn't seem to ever trigger the complete event (in this case anyway). The images are only 16x16px images from the local machine, so it should take no time at all to load. I use the totalImages variable as a counter; as an image is loaded, it subtracts 1 from it. Once it is 0, all images are loaded. I can create an instance and it goes as far as tracing "Begin loading images", but that's it. No errors in the console either.

PHP Code:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Scaling Loader Class Content?

var contentLoader:Loader = new Loader();this.contentContainer.addChild(contentLoader);I load the content (these other SWFs) into a MovieClip container on the stage called "contentContainer". The "contentContainer" is much smaller than the "master" SWFs stage and also much smaller than the original size of the SWFs that the Loader is loading in. Also, and this is very important, the "contentContainer" itself is sized -- not scaled -- (see code) and placed on the stage depending on how large the stage is scaled (I am trying to make one of those "liquid stage" flash sites that fills the browser window with flash content regardless of window size).//this resides in a function that is called whenever the stage RESIZE Event is fired
