View 2 RepliesI have made a game that sends and recevies data from an online leaderboard. It uses PHP and mySQL, and all works fine when running the .swf off my computer. The problem is, when the game is uploaded and running online, it fails to both receive and send the data to the leaderboard. I don't know why! When I first ran the game offline, a security box appeared that told me I had to allow it to access the server. So, I'm thinking it might be a security problem. Is there a similar security setting that I have to enable on the server somewhere? Or some code I can put to the game to override it? Note that everything is on the same server at the moment so I dont need any of that CrossDomain stuff, I think.

View 5 RepliesI have created a simple Flash object that presents some text; it's a rotation of testimonials. The client wants to be able to edit/add to the items. He's going to maintain the site once it's handed off through the use of Dreamweaver; I've used templates to lock down the sensitive areas, and as it's a CSS based design there are many.
Is there a way to get rotation of text without having to create the media to do it? I've tried to explain that when a page loads, it's loaded -- it's the media's job to play the pretty things. He says someone told him this would be a piece of cake in various content management softwares, but I'm convinced they meant he could edit one area of text as often as he wanted to add/change the text; not that when you loaded the page you could sit there and it would display, sequentially, N number of text bits while you sat there and watched. But I'm asking, because I'm not a genius here, and maybe there's some way to fit this bill that I'm not thinking of.
In a game, how would I go about keeping records if a user is online or offline? I know when they logged in it could set something in the database that would indicate that they are online, however how would I know when they logout in any other method than pressing the "logout" button? Say if they just closed their browser..
View 2 Repliestell if a user is online, once they log in I set something in the database that say's they're online, when they log out change that. And set something up so they will d/c after 5-10 minutes of inactivity in case they log off any other way besides hitting "log out" However, I'm not exactly sure how I would do this, because the only way that I can think of wouldn't work, because say if they just closed their browser, then it would stop running my application, and thus stop running my check to check for inactivity..
how I can make sure if a user is already logged in accurately?
I have some flash banners for an affiliate program. On my own sites I use an ad serving program and just set the destination URL of the flash banners using the program. However, I want users to be able to modify the destination URL when they put the banner on their own websites. How can I accomplish this? There's no implementation restriction but I want something as simply as possible for my affiliates to copy and paste.

View 2 RepliesI know Flash developers have done Kiosks and renovated arcade games. "Come on, we see Flash everywhere."Can I prepare my swf files like an image gallery and receive XML commands to load it? Where do I start? Flash/After Effects skills have got me through so far,
Criteria
TCP/IP socket connection
Flash package
XML commands load swf file in to a container
How do I prepare my Flash files and XML sheet to receive commands "any sample out there"?What about e.data,urlLoad ,xmlSocket Class, XMLCP/IP XML socket connection to load ?Is binary or XML method better for loading and reloading swf files?Do I need Red5 or a media server?
I'm doing an app for the next st valentin's day and I'm using the Facebook API. The idea is that the user will be able to take a picture with it's own webcam and then edit that photo for to send it to a friend from facebook. But I can't find a tutorial about to edit an image (a bitmap) in the application. Can you tell me how can I do it? I want to edit the bitmap on the same app, like add a frame around the picture and maybe add a message too.
View 4 RepliesI was given a flash project to edit. I have to edit one image in Photoshop, but when I right click on it and choose Edit with -Photoshop, an error message comes up saying "The file G:Web-02Sitefilm120902.gif does not exist, unable to launch external editor". I don't understand how Flash can list the image and display the image when I click on it, yet it doesn't exist. I tried to copy the image and paste it in photoshop but it only pastes a very low resolution version of it. What do I do?

View 3 RepliesI have an image on the stage which is bigger than the stage itself:
The stage is 700x550
The image is 2100x1650, and it's registration point is at its center, if I remember correctly.The initial location of the image on the stage is 350,75.I want to make sure that the user will be able to drag the image, as long as the edges of the image doesn't show.here's what I did:
mapRect = new Rectangle(0-mapMC.width/2, 0-mapMC.height/2, mapMC.width, mapMC.height);
and later on:
mapMC.startDrag(false,mapRect);
The the top and the left of the image are bounded well, but as far as the bottom and the right side of the image.
This is the link Picnik to an online image editing application built using Flex and Flash as I understand it.I have been away from Flash for awhile now. Can anyone tell me what/how these images are being edited.
View 3 RepliesI've finally finished my flash xml gallery, and have tested it to my complete satisfaction using dreamweaver. When I do a preview from dreamweaver, or just open up the gallery html file from explorer the swf loads the xml file and all the images flawlessly, everything works. However when I move the site for testing on my mac laptop it loads the xml file but not the images. When I upload it to my test website it doesn't even load the xml file. I just copied the root folder over in all cases I dont understand why it wont work. You can see it here: [URL]
Could this be some export setting I am using incorrectly? Why would it work locally on a windows machine, and not locally on a mac or online on either. I tried re exporting the swf after saving it as CS3 from CS4 and changing the local playback security to only allow network. So now it loads the xml data online but not locally. Thumbnails still aren't showing up online though.
I'm trying to create a simple interactive image map where the user would be able to hover the mouse pointer over a part of the image and the setup would in turn animate/show/unhide a pop-up box (not new window!) next to the mouse pointer's current position containing text, images, &| clickable links. However, in the example, it is not an image map, but 9 small images. Each image becomes a bit larger when hovered over, and when clicked, loads the image into the right of the page. I'm looking to satisfy these criteria: I want to use an image map (HTML or other) instead of 9 small images I want the hovering action to also load the image - remove the need to click the image I want the page to be viewable & interactive from all popular viewers - desktop browsers, mobile browsers, iPads, Android tablets, etc... I'm not sure what platform (aka - mix of dev tools) to use in order to satisfy the list of criteria above. The main goal is for the last item in the list of criteria above to be satisfied. I could probably sacrifice the first or second criteria from the list above if that's what needs to be done in order to satisfy the last item. The couple of "platforms" I thought of using were: HTML + CSS jQuery + CSS Flash + Actionscript Javascript + AJAX What set of tools should I use to pull this off?

View 1 RepliesI'm actually relatively new to flash and actionscript but I could say I have fair knowledge about them. So anyway, I usually build flash websites the traditional way using timeline animation and scripting. Today I had a job interview and they said they're looking for someone who can develop any web design into a Flash CMS with a back-end office for the client to edit the content without having to edit the FLA file or any code.
Accordingly, I'd like to know where and how to start. What are the main concepts I should follow/adapt?

View 1 RepliesI am working on a web-tool that allows users to add pre-loaded tiles of data as overlays to Google Maps. I then want users to be able to save their work. I'm approaching this as them saving a series of images that they can then import to work and add text etc to a layout they choose. If you want to see it in action, it's available here: [URL]
My issue is saving the map image.
I started by trying to use BitmapData.draw() and the JPGEncoder class in the as3corelib and this works for the 2 legend images. It also works for the map when testing on my PC (and changing the Global Security Settings). As soon as you put it on the server it hangs at the BitmapData.draw() line, and I've since found out that this isn't resolvable:
code.google.com/apis/maps/faq.html#bitmapdata
I went back to trying to use map.getPrintableBitmap (code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/flash/reference.html#Map.getPrintableBitmap; which I'd previously discarded due to poor resolution). I can still pass this through JPGEncoder and am now happy with the result. However, the code only runs when no overlays have been added to the map.
My "save code" goes as follows:
Code:
import JPGEncoder;
Security.loadPolicyFile("195.62.199.219/pctsla/gis/supporttool/crossdomain.xml"); //see note below
[Code].....
Note: PHP cannot be installed on the server I am working with for various reasons so I need to pursue other routes.
I am creating a little flash movie, nothing major and I want something to happen. When a user rolls over a button, a image fades in somewhere else on the stage, possibly below the button being rolled over. Then when its clicked (the button) the image (possibly) expands and text is showed while the background is faded.
View 5 RepliesI need to build a web application in flash, the gist is the application takes users inputs and generates a network diagram based on that inputs. I actually coded the entire application in JS DOM and PHP GD, and client comes back suddenly saying they cant support PHP (IT restrictions). So now am back to square one, wondering, how to draw network images dynamically. JS cant do it. So I stumbled upon Actionscript. So if i were to code an application entirely in actionscript,
1. Does actionscript provide me a way to create input fields (select, text, textarea...etc)
2. Would i be able to use these user inputs from Question 1 to generate a network diagram?
3. Can actionscript do Question's 1 and 2 without needing support from a server side
scripting language like PHP?
