im trying to use the ExternalInterface to display the test in swf from html.
i use jquery
$('#test')[0].sendToFlash($('#input').val());
where #test is the id of the flash movieclip;
in flash.
ExternalInterface.addCallback("sendToFlash", fromJS);
and fromJS just displays the text passed from the html into the textfield.
its working fine in IE, Chrome, Safari but not working on Firefox.
i have a movie that has worked fine in past during Html test but ive been doing some dubugging using the flash test latly and it runs fine here but when i go back and try to test in Html mode no errors come just the movie never fully starts (starts up about as much as if there was an error).

View 1 RepliesAdobeTV showed a way to allow Flash to "talk" to an HTML page via javascript using the ExternalInterface method. There seems to be a catch. You need to use the ID of the swf in the parameters to have it all fit together and you can only put the ID="swf" into the IE section of the Dreamweaver generated javascript or into the non-IE section. Putting it in both didn't work and the author mentioned only putting in one of them specifically.Is there a way to do this that would work in both sets of generated Javascript?
View 3 RepliesI can open a new window using window.open() in ExternalInterface.call() but then I want to be able to write contents to the new window. Since, I cannot get the reference of the window back from window.open() call, I am not able to do anything to the window once it is opened.
I do not have any control over the HTML in which my swf is displayed.
Has anyone been in this situation before?
Update: After a few hours of trial and error I found you can get out of this situation by storing your window reference globally and referring to the same global reference whenever you need to access the new window.

When the user presses the button for stage 2, I would like the Html background to change again. I understand using ExternalInterface with Javascript is the way to do this but I'm at a dead end. When a movie clip is removed from the stage it's properties are still accessible including visible == true. How do I test to see if it is off the time line?

The reason i ask is my current project has a rotating + enlarging effect which is largely dynamic so sometimes an object may clip the edge of the stage areathis looks messy but i dont want to increase the stage area to cover the largest possible area any object could enter because most of the time the objects are at the center and small so i would end up with a lot of white space

If I just display regular text it works or if I change the textArea element to a RichEditableText element it works fine. Since this is for a mobile app I would prefer to use the textArea element as recommended by Adobe.Here is the MXML code for the textArea. All I get is the border and no content displayed.

I'm trying to test a custom Flex 4 skinnable component, using the FlexUnit UIImpersonator class. If I run my tests from a FlashBuilder Spark only project everything works fine. If I try to test from a project with the mx component set on the classpath I get a "getElementIndex not available in non Flex 4 projects" error.Can I unit test spark components in FlexUnits visual test environment while still having the mx component set on the classpath?
UIImpersonator delegates it's method calls to a "testEnvironment".The implementation used for this "testEnvironment" is decided by the VisualTest EnvironmentBuilder class and the FlexEnvironmentBuilder class. If the FlexEnvironmentBuilder class can find the "mx.core.Container" on the classpath it returns a MX environment, else a Spark environment. Only the spark environment has valid implementations for Flex 4 relevant method calls on the UIImpersonator - like the addElement method.
My buttons only work when I click on them on the stage while having the "enable simple buttons" option on. They do not work if I try to "test movie," "test scene" and publish it to a SWF. Nothing responds whenever I am in these modes. I am using Adobe Flash Professional CS5 Actionscript 2.0.

I have two scenes in my flash file and in scene 1, first button takes you to frame 2 where movie clip is -works

second button takes you to frame 3
but on scene 2 that performs same function as scene 1, the first button

instead of going to frame 2 goes to frame 3. and the second button goes correctly to frame 3.that happens when i test scene! when i test movie all buttons work properly.
I've developed an html page that displays a FL7 swf embed on top, and a FL9 swf on bottom. If a user doesn't have FL9, I don't want to prompt an upgrade request - instead, I'd like to have the FL9 swf swap out for a jpeg/gif. He lives in another city so I am sending the html files as test so he can see how things are progressing.We have done this in the past but for some reason he only sees a white and black screen on his end.The only thing that has changed is I have embedded a new font from the text fonts. I have a flash slideshow with 2 divs overlaying it, one at the top and one at the bottom.[code]Both overlay properly in Firefox/Safari/Chrome, but nothing I try seems to make it work in IE. I'm using Remy Sharp's HTML 5 enabling script to make the HTML5 mark-up work in lower versions of IE.What's funny is that the second div, #intro overlays correctly, but #top-menu always appears behind the` slideshow.All 3 elements are absolutely positioned with z-indexes explicitly set. No matter how high or low I set them the flash object is always in front of the #top-menu element.I have checked the rendered <param> tags and one of them lists wmode as transparent.The flash object is dynamically inserted with php through a CMS, so I have no access to the <embed> tag that many have suggested adding the transparent attribute to.
