Media Server :: FLVPlayback 2.5 Buffering State Never Ends

Jul 27, 2010

I'm using the FLVPlayback to load streaming videos from a FMS. The bug that I'm running into is with the buffering state. Several times the video will enter a buffering state that never ends. The last video event that's fired in this scenario is the BUFFERING_STATE_ENTERED. But if I seek the video on the seekbar, it's playing away.

Media Server :: FLVPlayback Component's NcMgr.netConnection Is Null When Connecting To My Flash Media Server?

Jan 13, 2010

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Flash Media Server working with a little video playback application I wrote a few years ago that has suddenly stopped working.I'm using CS3/Actionscript 3.My app uses the FLVPlayback Component, and was working well last time I checked.  I recevied a report that the videos stopped working, and have been looking into it.I figured I'd add a bunch of event listeners to the FLVPlayback's ncMgr.netConnection so I could get debug info on things like io errors, net status, etc.The problem I'm running into is that the netConnection is null when I set it to anything on my Flash Media Server, and adding any event listeners to this netConnection throws errors. Here's what I've tried so far:

Playback of a local FLV file works fine.In the FLVPlayback documentation, I found an example and stole the URL of the stream they were using in the example, and that works fine, although it is an HTTP protocol stream rather than RTMP.Any attempt to access FLV files on my Media Server, which has worked fine in the past, basically cause the FLVPlayback object to sit and hang in "buffering" mode and never progresses beyond this point. The netConnection object in this case is null. Here's my code:[code]........

Again the purpose of this is to troubleshoot the video streaming from the Flash Media Server, and it seems like there is no netconnection to the server being created.Does this mean that the server is not working, or is there a problem with the way I'm trying to access the content on the server? This was all working fine before, and I have set up the server-side application .ASC files and such to allow things to work fine on the server end.

Media Server :: 3.5 Buffering Too Much

Jul 14, 2009

i setup the development versionof fms 3.5 server on windows 2003 server and it worked great in my tests.so we bought the server and are putting it in production now.the only problem is i never "tested" large FLV files.now if i put a large 50+megabytes flv file in the server it constantly buffers on the client. Is there a setting that defines the buffer size to increase the amount of buffer data that gets sent to the client?if i use a small flv file it works flawlessly but for large files it says "buffering" every 2-5seconds on the client.the client is just opening the test page that comes with the server the server has 3000mb/s to the internet and the client has a 20mb/s connection so i don't think bandwidth is an issue...

Media Server :: Pre-buffering Multiple NetStreams?

May 21, 2009

I am running into some streaming bugs and am wondering if anyone else has come across them. Very grateful in advance for any help as I've been banging my head against this for a week now.

First of all, I'm finding that no matter what value I set for a NetStream's bufferTime property, the NetStream will not begin actually playing until the bufferLength property is over 2 seconds. This is not what Flash documentation says (that the default value of bufferLength is .1 seconds). Could this issue a function of the FMS configuration with my RTMP hosting account? Is it something I can resolve with my asc file?

Also: In my Actionscript 3 app, I need to pre-buffer a number of video streams so that any one of them can be triggered immediately later in the program. I do this by building an array of NetStreams (within a single NetConnection), then playing each of the streams I need to pre-buffer and immediately pausing each too. This is successfully causing them to buffer in the background, so that they're ready for immediate play when I need them. When I do this with just one NetStream, it works fine. But with more, the streams are behaving unpredictably. They are successfully buffering, but when I need to actually play them and I go to unpause them (Netstream.resume), the NetStreams are generally NOT playing back correctly. Their behavior is not consistent, and they mostly play with no video, or no audio OR video. The one exception is the FIRST NetStream that I started pre-buffering, which is the only one that's consistently playing back fine with its audio and video. Again, if I unpause any of the other NetStreams, they play back with just audio, or not at all.

Media Server :: Streaming Vid Skips After Buffering

May 26, 2011

When my streaming videos start they will buffer and begin to play as normal. However, as soon as the vid starts buffering again a problem arises. Basically what is happening is that Flash is buffering the video to a certain point, but instead of resuming playback from the point where the vid paused it now jumps instantly to the end of the newly buffered area without playing the vid portion in between. Which essentially means that it skips merrily through the video and never stops buffering. That said i'd prefer to get to the root of the prob, particularly if this is a codec/keyframe issue, since i could then re-export the vids appropriately.

Media Server :: FMS Static HD Video Playback Buffering

May 18, 2010

I have downloaded and installed the Flash Media Server (FMS) trial version. Just purchased the software today and waiting for the activation serial number. I created a video gallery - [URL]. My goal is for these videos to stream just like vimeo. I am only using HD 1280 x 720 video. All videos are between 25 to 125 MB in size, originally .mov files converted to .flv using FFMPEG. Videos are between 30 seconds to 58 seconds in length.

I am using ColdFusion to upload and organize my videos and I have configured FMS to work with CF. The Issue is that these videos buffer the same way they did when I didn't have FMS installed. Press play, the video buffers, the video plays, then stops to buffer again. Stop and Buffer, Stop and Buffer. I can understand if there is buffering at the start of the video but not throughout. When I start the video over from the start, it has to buffer all over again!

Media Server :: Dynamic Buffering Based On Bandwidth And Datarate?

Jul 13, 2010

I'm trying to determine an initial value for NetStream.bufferTime based on the client's calculated bandwidth and the video's bitrate. As far as I can tell you can't do this, because you must have an initial buffer set BEFORE you call NetStream.play() (or use the default 2 seconds) and FMS does not call NetStream.onMetaData, where one would normally find the videodatarate, until after NetStream.play() is called.Even if you modify NetStream.bufferTime during the onMetaData call back it doesn't effect when the video starts playing or when the NetStatus event registers "NetStatus.Buffer.Full".

How do I find the Video Data Rate BEFORE I call NetStream.play? How do how do I reset the initial bufferTime before acctual play back begins and the NetStatus event fires with "NetStatus.Buffer.Full"

Media Server :: NetStream.time Jumping Ahead When Buffering Playlists?

Dec 14, 2009

I am streaming a playlist of multiple mp4 video files with flash 9 and FMS 3 and have been experiencing strange netStream.time values when the buffering is set for an extra long time on slow connections. When I have my buffer set to something like 60 seconds I'll start experiancing this problem:

the NetStream.time value will return 0 on progress events while buffering, but the moment the buffer is full, instead of reading 0,1,2 +++ it jumps to a really high value, in this case 53.5 seconds, and sticks there until the video (which seems to play correctly from the beginning) catches up to that time and then the netStream.time starts incrementing as it should.

Another relevant fact is that the time the netStream.time gets stuck to always corresponds to the end/begining point between two streams in the playlist. For whatever reason this usually seems to be the third video in the playlist. If the connection is relatively fast and the buffer is set to a smaller value,

Media Server :: Clearing Application Buffer After A Live Stream Ends?

Mar 16, 2012

I'm sure this has been asked and answered a million times, but searching for "application" "buffer" "cache" "live" and "hls" isn't giving me any answers, so let's get to it. After I end a live stream (which I do using FMLE 3.2 and FMS 4.5) and I then start a new live stream with the same application name, the HLS stream just loops the last 30 seconds of the old stream. To prevent this, after I end a stream, I have to go to applicationslivepkgstreams\_definst_ and delete the buffered data there. Only then can I start a new stream with the same name as the old stream. Now... that can't be normal, can it? Is there a switch somewhere I can set to tell FMS to cut it out and stop buffering old streams?

I'm trying to use SharedObjects to manage some state between my server and clients, and am having a lot of trouble understanding the documentation and can't find any examples that work. Here is what I'm trying to do:

1. Create a shared object on my server in an application instance running on my FMS.

2. Allow clients to receive updates to the state of this shared objects.

1. Create a shared object on my server instance.

2. Set up the proper calbacks so that a client can receive updates to this object.

I suspect that the number of lines involved to accomplis this is < 10, but the examples I've found in the documentation produce compilation errors.

Media Server :: FLVPlayback & FLV Multibitrate?

Oct 26, 2009

Our QA department ran into an issue when testing dynamic streaming with multple encodings in the FLV format that results in a stream cannot be found exception thrown by the FLVPlayback component. An interesting note is that dynamic streaming works when we use F4V files. At first I thought perhaps this was a limitation with Flash, but when I traced the code inside the FLVPlayback component I realized that the video delivery using NetStream should be supported by the Flash video player. So I'm a little confused why this error is happening. We're using the SMIL playlist format to supply the FLVComponent with the videos. I've also tested each video with a direct RTMP connection and they playback fine, so there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the server or the files.

Media Server :: Akamai FMS And FLVPlayback Component?

May 27, 2009

I have a couple of lessons that I have created in Flash CS3 for Flash Player 9 with AS3.In the main timeline of the lessons I have an flvplayback component setup to connect to our instance of Akamai's flash ondemand application to stream down several videos.

I have a customer who is behind a client side proxy server that is having an issue where the first 10-15 seconds of the any video plays then the video drops out and it appears that the flash player attempts to make a connection on another port which causes multiple audio streams to play but the video never comes back. From the network sniffer read out that their IT send me it appears that the flash player initially attempts to get out on port 80 then attempts port 1935 then attempts 443. if there is anyway to stop the flvplayback component from attempting multiple connections?

I created a stripped out application that just has a flvplayback component in it and when the end user opens that one it streams the video fine. I can only assume that my lessons which are using scorm and webservices to make database updates are reaching some bandwidth limit that the end users proxy doesn't like.

Problem starts to happen when i want to jump to movie position that haven't been downloaded yet. My question regards this situations. Can I tell FLVPlayback component to start buffering from different position?

In other words do it always have to be starting from begining of the movie. Can I start buffer movie for example from the middle of it?

FLVPlayback And Cookie State Check

Aug 30, 2009

I have been at this for 5 hours and I'm about to pull all my hair out.I have a seemingly very simple problem that I can NOT find any reason for why it's happening.I built a simple flash doc that has three distinct pieces in it (2 frames):

1) A FLVplayback component on frame 1 - (working)

2) An AS listener that checks for end of Video and progresses to 2nd frame - (working)

3) a cookie script that checks to see if the video has been played and if it has skips frame 1 and goes to frame 2 (also working)

The video successfully plays the first time and moves to the 2nd frame. But, when the document is reloaded it checks the cookie (finds it) skips the 1st frame, moves to the 2nd BUT it does NOT display ANY of the elements in the 2nd frame. NOTHING!! There is a simple graphic and button that allows the users to replay the video (by simply clearing the cookie and going back to Frame 1) but they do not show up. (However, they DO show up if the video plays first and moves to frame 2 via the listener, just not via the cookie).I have placed traces in each frame to show if it is indeed arriving on frame 2. It is, but NOTHING shows.I have rebuilt the FLA step by step testing each time and have found that it works perfectly, right up until the FLV Component is dropped in. Then it moves to the 2nd frame and shows NONE of the 2nd frame elements. URl...
