Flash has some serious problems with jagged edges on curved shapes. When adjusting a curve on a shape, flash shows that it is curved and then on releasing the mouse it turns into a sharp edge
View 1 RepliesI am currently working on a flash website that has several flv videos on it. Since the website layout has a slight tilt, I have had to transform the videos to slightly tilt as well. The problem that I am having is that when I do this the image becomes very pixelated and the edges of the video become jagged. I have somewhat fixed the edges issue by making a mask around it but i really dont know how to make the resolution better, or what causes it to loose resolution when slightly transformed. The size of the videos is the same as encoded. All I do is tilt them upwards on the right side a bit.

View 6 RepliesI have a file that dynamically loads JPEGs in two sizes (thumbnails and zoom). There is nothing in the AS concerning sizing, only loading and positioning.The site looked fine and now the pictures all have jagged edges to them (it's stained glass and the leading looks edgy instead of smooth). The photos that are loading look smooth upon uploading.I have them Publishing as, Flash Player 8, AS 2.0, JPEG Quality at 100, only Protect from Import is checked, I'm working in Flash CS4 on a Mac.
View 7 RepliesI have been trying to figure out a good strategy to perform a bitmap crop using Actionscript3. For example: I have a picture of a car and I want to crop out the car from the image alone and feather the edges so that they do not look jagged.
I am a flash noob and have only been using it for a couple of weeks. I've tried a couple of options and here is the last one that I have come up with it: I place red dots on stage that are draggable so that you can outline the object you want to crop and the dots are the bounds for a gradientFill that is used as the bitmap's mask. (I am using a radial gradient ... so the results are far from what I want, since the car is not an oval).

1) How can I fade just the edges of this custom-shaped fill outlined by the red dots?
2) I want to save the image out to a file once it's cropped. What strategy would be better for doing this using a BitmapFill or a GradientFill as a Mask (If it's possible with both)?
3) I may be using this strategy to crop faces later on.. anyone know of any good face detection APIs for as3? (also edge detection APIs)
Recently a client of mine decides he wanted rounded edges for his page vs. the typical square edges. This was after the initial design and at the point where it is almost complete.I told the client that in order to do this we would have to go to a full Flash web page meaning a full browser Flash page (everything is already flash).Now I told him that we could do this but because it was a new design and as you know that there is much involved in doing something like this i.e. all the paths will have to be changed because it will have to reside inside a mc etc.if there is an actual way to make the stage rounded only for future knowledge.I know I can make a round edge square or rectangle but it still has square edges at outer edge of the stage.

Right now I have done it in the distinct files but I want to do these both properties in a single file.

View 3 RepliesI'm having some trouble with my Flash Professional CS5.5. When I'm doing freehand drawing it shows the edges around every stroke I make. I have tried going to the menu, View -> Hide Edges and also pressing Ctrl+H. It does make the edges go away from the most recent stroke, but at the next stroke it reappears. Flash also started to crash from time to time, kinda randomly starting with not showing me the layers and then crashing completely giving me an error message talking about some file. This started about the same time as the edge thing. How to reset the settings? (I'm doing simple frame by frame animations in a ActionScript 3.0 document, if it's of any importance).
View 1 RepliesI have a question about shapes (i mean the flash.display.Shape class). Is it possible to import Shapes directly from the library as Shapes and not as Sprites/MovieClips? Shapes are supposed to be faster than MovieClips/Sprites, right? So why is it only possible to import MCs/Sprites from the library? I understand that generally shapes could be created solely by actionscript, but in my case the shape comprises of many points and is curved - so it's quite infeasible.
Is there maybe some sort of plugin to generate code that would draw the desired shape from a drawn shape in CS4? And a last one: Are there any benchmarks out there for performance comparison between sprites/mcs/shapes? How much performance do i loose by using a sprite instead of a shape?
I have a flash website template, Fla File as well as all the source files etc, I have some questions if anyone would be kind enough to help. I am new to Fla files so not sure what to do.
There is some text I managed to edit ok, but others I could not, it appears as if they started as text and have been broken apart and made into a shape? when i click you can only highlight each letter, but not change them. There are two of these, one flies in from left, the other from right.
So Ive been working with Flash Pro CS5 and it seems I cant get the converting right with image formats into shape symbols. A couple days ago I did convert it correctly but now I cant remember how exactly I did it lol.
What Im trying to do is convert an image into a shape symbol then into a .gls format. When I import the working shape symbol in my SoThink Flash it would show up in the scene but now I cant recreate a working one as it would show up as a blank image.
Ive watched and read through some tutorials but Im confused on which order I should do the steps into converting an image into a symbol.
Btw.. if theres an easier way to convert an image into a .gls format I like to hear it as well
I literally saved the file as a swf etc and when I viewed it, there were massive random red shapes all over the dynamic areas completely ruining it.how these were formed as I changed nothing in the movie.

Generally when we draw lines in Flash either vertically or horizontally or through exact 45 degrees on either of the sides, they come out as straight and anti-aliased. While if they are drawn deviated from either 0 or 45 degrees, they come out as jagged. I want that to be anti-aliased too

It looks great in the Flash GUI, but once I publish it, the image appears to blink or go jagged as it moves quickly across the screen. I couldn't figure out if this was a monitor issue, browser issue, or something I'm doing in Flash. It appears to show up differently, depending on what computer I'm using. View 1 RepliesI'm trying to create some MovieClips with a glow effect when you rollOver and the glow effect dissapearing on rollOut. But when the rollOut is finished my background movieclip to which I apply the filter (a simple 20 x 20 vector circle) all of a sudden appears jagged, when before rollOver/rollOut it appeared smooth as it should. What could be going on here? I'm pretty new to AS3, thus the example isn't working properly yet. For instance:
* when you roll over the item the first time it immediately shows the end phase of the glow in stead of animating. I thought I'ld circumvent this with Tween.rewind() in the constructor, but that didn't do the trick.
* also I'm not sure whether the addEventListener for TweenEvent.MOTION_CHANGE is placed in the correct spot. I tried putting it in the constructor, but that resulted in the event being recieved continuously by _onMotionChange.
But the most important part is the jagged circle after the glow filter has dissapeared. This is what I have so far (abbreviated example):

I'm trying to figure out how I would make a line grow or fade in basically, such as in a line graph how it shows increasing growth as the viewer watches the line move up and down and more up etc.

I need to write a 3 words sentence which will be placed above and below a circle. Circle contains a logo, but i need to write the text, but it needs to be rounded as well. I don't want to break apart and rotate EVERY letter in those 3 words.

I can hide it with hide edges, but as soon as I select them and let go, the edges come back. maybe their not edges since theyre dotted. maybe its flash telling me somethings not set up correctly? anyone?
