In Flash CS5, none of the align buttons work (in the align tab, in modify > align, or with ctrl + alt shortcuts). Right now I have to take the stage width and object width and put in the x and y coordinates manually to align objects.

I want to align objects to the stage, so that after the browser window is resized, the objects/MC's are still in the same places (top middle, right middle and so on...).[code]But this has to be loaded from an external .as file as far as i'm aware.I need the above code to work on frame one of the flash file. View 3 RepliesI've been putting off asking this question and have tried to resolve it myself since it would seem to be so basic; however after much frustration , here goes:Can a display object (ie an instance of a class loaded from the library such as a filled rectangle {trying to keep this simple} be positioned on the main stage by using the following syntax:myrecTangle.stage.align = StageAlign.BOTTOM;I have created a fairly simple class to load objects to the stage by class type (recTangle) and name (myrecTangle) and all works fine up to the positioning. The objects are created and named properly and are placed on stage; however, they are all placed on stage at 0,0 stage coordinates. I can postion them anywhere using x. and .y values but when I use syntax similar to that above they are still positioned at 0,0. There are no errors thrown. I have also tried to create a sprite for each, load them into the sprite and addChild the sprite to the stage. They are still positioned on stage at 0,0. Is the stage.align/StageAlign syntax peculiar to absolute main stage positioning or am I allowed to use it also for object positioning.

Does anyone know how to align objects (movieclips) to the stage, let's says I have a logo and menu positionned on left side and collection of pictures in middle of stage.
I want that after the browser window is resized, the objects are still in the same places but moves dynamically to left side without hiding to user view.
When I do Publish settings (HTML tab), I would like to set it the way that my swf would be floating in the middle of the screen.However, I always end up with my website being "stuck" on the left or right side of the screen.These are the settings I have done, which result in the site being placed on left side of the screen:
TEMPLATE: Flash Only

I used the publish feature of flash but it does not seem to center the SWF in the browser. Why is there a centering feature on the publish settings under HTML tab if it does not center the SWF? It only works if you set Dimensions to Percent but that exposes the area beyond the stage and i don't want it to be seen. In addition that causes some movieclips to be improperly positioned. The Flash Alignment should have been disabled if the Dimensions is not set to Percent. Perhaps a simple script that centers my swf file in a browser..

View 4 RepliesI have a button (a simple rectangle) and I create a new layer and place text on the first keyframe while in Button Symbol Edit Mode. I now want to align the text in the center of the button. I drag over both the text and the button to select them both and than I open the Align Panel and I choose to align in the center. However, it is not aligning the text in the center and it is also moving the button to the left.

View 10 RepliesI am having a problem with my text alignment and I can't figure out a way to correct this. Unfortunately, I'm using a mac with CS3 and a Windows computer with CS4, so it could either be an OS difference, a version difference, or a software bug which I can't figure out.
Update: I downloaded a trial CS4 and the problem persists. This seems to be a mac issue. For some reason, the text on my Mac with CS3 are not in the vertical center of the text fields. This causes a problem with my "align vertical centers" alignments, meaning I've had to do the alignment by hand to get it to look right. When I moved my file to my laptop to keep working on my project at home, I noticed that the text alignment was correct on my laptop, causing all of the text placement throughout my document to be off. This means that I can only work on the one computer and can't bring the project home to work through the weekends. I have made an image showing the difference of how the text is aligned on the two versions, and a sample of how it affects my project when i bring it between computers.
I made the file on the mac (CS3) first, and so the alignment is designed to look correct on there. When i bring it to the PC (CS4) the text shifts down, placing it back in the center of the text boxes and ruining the alignment. When I publish the file it keeps the formatting of each system. IE - publishing on the mac makes the final product look like it does on the mac, and publishing on the windows computer makes it look like it looks on the windows computer. The file published from the mac has the mac alignment on both computers, and the file published from the pc has the alignment of the pc on both computers.
Just to clarify, the way flash handles text fields on windows / cs4 is how I imagine it should be. I made the file on mac/CS3 however, and so when i said "ruins the alignment" I should have said "fixes the alignment problem, but breaks my alignment which was made to compensate for the problem I was experiencing."
Interestingly, I could find no solid data on what "align to stage" is in the built-in Adobe Help. What is "align to stage" and how does it work? I thought maybe it was a thing to align a shape to center on the stage, but no. I can select the shape, select "align to stage", and the shape doesn't move.

The dimensions are 675 px wide and it doesn't matter what the length is as the scroll text box should be able to scroll down as much as needed, but the width is important. This is my problem:1. I group a drawing or I create an object (movie clip, graphic,button...)2. I double click the object/group on scene to edit.3. I go in to the group.4. I go back to the scene by double clicking somewhere empty.5. And object is gone. It's invisible. I can only bring it back by clicking on something NOT GROUPED on scene, or by clicking the red line on the timeline.Note: This problem seems to be not occuring when I go back to the scene via the blue arrow icon pointing left at the top or by clicking the scene name.

It does'nt need any navigation like this example, but it's going to just an animationmovie.This animation is going to be viewed on a widescreen tv. How do I make the animation fit the screen? I'm not sure which resolution the animation must be. I guess this has to match the resolution of the tv. But is it just as simple as changing the flash file settings in 1920 x 1080?
How can I implement this? I tried to use: (this.numChildren - 1)But it doesn't work. I want to use this code because I have 8 boxes, each are 100px X 100px. You hover each box and they flip over but the "backside" of these cards are larger in both length and width than the front. When they flip over they overlap the neighbouring card. I'm looking for some sort of script so that I can tell each card to align itself above the other cards on the stage.

To do that I activated onion skin tool, selected all objects and all frames and resized by using the transform tool.

View 2 RepliesI am preparing a navigation (using panning) movie in Flash. There is very big (6000x4000) image (area photo from top) on the stage and it's position moves once user moves his mouse. Thus, user can navigate on the area.But flash really drives me insane while working on this movie. It usually suddenly stops and quits with error.I'd like to ask what can i do? should i use a different method???It seems, Adobe becomes stupid on large files and there are bugs in somewhere Flash. For example; how can i use a method like Google Maps (it loads an another image when you move another position. Not loads all images together and doesnt consumpt large amount of resources.)?

Eg I draw a circle and use the mask function to mask an image, works fine, then i draw some more geometry (in the same layer) and it will not mask as the first object did. Is there any way I can 'Join' them togeter to act as one big mask?

Rather than change existing XML data, how do I add completely new data? ie, if the above var held two "mediaFile" lines of XML, how do I add or insert a third?
I'm taking a snapshot from a webcam and adding a frame around this snapshot.I add the snapshot before to load the frame from a file. How can I swap between those objects? because the frame appears at last and the snapshot appears infront. I wanna swap those in the way that the snapshot appears at last and then the frame.
