Professional :: Incorporate "find A Location" Functionality Using The User's Zip Code?
Jan 27, 2010
I'm currently working on a project where I want to incorporate "find a location" functionality using the user's zip code. Basically, the user needs to be able to type in their zip code and once they hit the submit button, they are then taken to a page where it lists all locations available. Mind you, the website is ALL Flash. Currently, it's in ActionScript 2.0, but I could (at least with these pages) convert to ActionScript 3.0 if needed.
I've created a map of Montana counties. Each county is a seperate MC withing the larger parent clip (allcnt_mc). When a county is clicked on, I'd like to center that county on the stage and zoom to its extent. The challenging part has been telling the parent (allcnt_mc) where to tween to. Since each individual county is a child of the parent, they have their own coordinate space referencing that of the parent.
Is there a way I can query the location (x,y) of a child in the parent's coordinate space? With this number, I could calculate the distanct between the parent's current reg. point and that of the child, indicating the distance that the parent would have to move to be centered on the stage. I was trying to use localToGlobal but could not figure out how to use it.
I created a simple button that displays an error messeage: "error opening 'url" when I test the movie, but does play and opens in browser after publishing. However, it won't open in the browser in a different location. I pasted the html code in a web page but it doesn't work there nor opens in the browser in a differnet location from where it was originally published and saved. Why is that?
I have been tasked with adding button functionality for a fence companies flash application. Specifically, the buttons will be in a drop down horizontal menu. They will have to display (and hide) certain accessories that will be placed on the fence or are a part of the fence itself. For an example of something similar, please check out the design studio at this site -[URL]. It is the application about halfway down the page and after hitting the APP MENU button, it is the top most option.note that as the fence moves (by scrollers) the accessories always stay with the fence. So, I am guessing that the whole thing is a movieclip and that the buttons are referencing?, showing?, hiding? certain aspects of the movieclip.
I had the core of my site down for me, I believe in Flash 8 using AS2. I took over the site and attempted to learn everything that they did, so I could update it myself. The one thing that I can't figure out... is where they put the customized scrollbars they made for my site. There are some scrollPane components in the library, but I can't see where he put the custom scrollbars. The homepage link is here:The blue scrollbars are what I'm trying to find. When I add more content I want to be able to use the same scrollbars. If you need the FLA, I'll send it to you. I am pretty sure there is some default location that they're stored in though, and I'm just not seeing it
I downloaded a tutorial fla file and it contains 2 images of cars which seem to be under a folder called "bitmap assets" seen in the library panel. Now, since i have not created them, is there a way for me to somehow access them directly?
I'm working on a build script in the Flash Builder version of Eclipse. This build script needs to import launch configuration .launch files into the user's workspace. However there doesn't seem to be an available ANT var for determining the workspace location. While stepping through the available vars with intellisense I noticed that ${osgi.instance.area} does point to my current workspace but when I tried to echo it back in a running ant script it just spat out "${osgi.instance.area}" and not the path.
given an arrayA = [a, b, c] and arrayB = [a1,a2,a3]
by using array[0].name, it will return "a", is there any function that i can get the number "0" when i do something to "a" ?
I hope i make it clear here Xp
because i have 2 array here, i wanted to do something when the position of an element in an arrayA is same as the position of another element in arrayB.
for example trace(array[0].name); -> output = A trace(array[0].?????); -> output = 0
I would like to have a map of the 50 U.S. states. I would like to click on a state and have a small pop-up window that displays the temperature of the capital of that state. After 5 seconds the pop-up closes. Behind the scenes I would also like the clicks being tracked by a database. I am digging around weather.com trying to figure out linking RSS feeds to Flash and I am thinking MySql to count the clicks. Does anyone have any tips or a quicker, easier way to set this up?
I cannot publish anymore my Web site. When I do "test animation" I got no error and my site is Cool! But When I try to publish is, it stop at the middle of the bar and say that the police should be incorporated with "Texte -> Incorporate the Police". I did it many times, saving the doc and tring to republish my doc with no result. Everytime I try to publish I got the same mistake! I cannot compile my server anymore and make any progress.
I am trying to save user location in a course. I am looking for the a simple way for a new Flash CS4 and Actionscript 3 user. The program will be copied to the users hard drive. I am creating a course that has 3 topics each with about 8 sections. The user can go to any of the topics in order and when they complete can do a final assessment. I am looking for a simple way to keep track if the user has finished any of the topics, then to keep track of where they are in a section, so when they return to the program they can pick up where they left off. Also, wondered if their is a next label command like the nextScene command?
Underneath the playing video (of a building) I have an image of the floor plans of the building.When the video .flv file is clicked, i want a "red dot" or some sort of pointer that will move, or appear on the area of the floor plans, in comparason to which video is being played when clicked. - something that runs like a mini map inside a game, where it shows the user where they are in relation to their environment
I am doing a project on an interactive website that contains flash animations. I have to incorporate a voice that explains what is happening in the animations. I am using my own voice for this. I have recorded my voice and saved it as .mp3 files. between each animation there are about 6-10 audio files. I am pretty sure I can import the sounds into the flash library and drag the sounds on the timeline and sync the sound with the animations that way but is it possible to control the sound using actionscript as I have to incorporate buttons that allows the user to play, pause and stop the animation and the audio. Or can I only use actionscript to achieve this.
My question is how do I incorporate playback controls to a Embedded Video that plays with the timeline? I saw how easy it was to add playback components when you import video externally. I figured that I probably need to start by creating my play back components, but then I need code to tell the swf what to do?
I'm using the Google Analytics library (AS3 mode) .swc to track some click statistics.Now I'ld like to get the users location. Does anyone know if it's possible to do that with the Flash Google Analytics library?
Where do you put your code in flash? Do you put it all on the main timeline? Do you put in on the objects ? Where is the best place and why ? I followed a few tutorials where all of the code was on a layer in the main timeline (for arrangement). I kind of liked that but as I advanced in flash I started having problems with specifying the hole path for every movie clip (sometimes 7,8 embeded movieclips). I find it much more easier to just put the code on the movie clip itself. What is your method and why?
PHPCode:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at sound$iinit()[sound::sound:2]Cannot display source code at this location.
Here's a sample code I tried to create an instance via AS:
PHP Code:
var a:MovieClip = new ball();a.name = "test";addChild(a);a.x = 200;a.y = 200;trace(a);trace(a.name);
It works fine, the ball shows up on the stage. Nothing's wrong with it until I try to debug (Ctrl + Shift+ Enter) to understand it clearer and here's what I got"
Code:
Cannot display source code at this location after the line
ok how do you find out if the user is scrolling the mouse?? like you can tell where the user points there mouse, with a onRelease, is there like an on scroll also i am gonna start upa flash web site bussines thingy, any tips on how much i should charge for a web site? i might cahrge between 50dollars to 200 dollars depending on how tricky it is, is this good or bad?
I have an FPS monitor running and notice that I am getting choppiness here and there, bringing my game from 40 to 27 fps and back and forth at certain stages. I have an idea of where it is happening, but do not know for sure. I looked up quite a few memory monitors but haven't found anything decent yet. Is there a memory monitor that allows you to see the memory leaked and find its location? If not, how about just he memory leaked?
Is there a way to find the radial distance using the zipcode? My task is to search the all the users residing with in a specified distance. I know the zipcodes of the users. Eg, users between 25 miles from the current location. I have other search categories, for which i am using mysql queries. I am unable to figure anything out for the distance issue.
My backend is in php and frontend in Flex.
The best option for me would be something like that of www.zip-codes.com/zip-code-radius-finder.asp. ie, if I should be able to get all the zip-codes available in the specified radial distance. So i can compare this zip-codes to the users zip-codes in my database. And select the ones with a match.
