I cannot recall where I go to specify the path direct to the FLV file from within Flash after placing the PlayBack component / skin over the movie on the stage. this is the last step before publishing the movie (in order to have embedded in an HTML page)?

View 1 Repliesthe same class is passed to the mxmlc compiler in SWF library as a symbol linkage class and again in a source-path. But the compiler uses the definition from the source-path so creating new instance of that class won't create new instance of the library symbol. How do I tell the compiler to prefer the definition linked to the symbol (the one dfrom SWC)?
I have my design assets in an FLA file and they are linked to classes (e.g. [URL]. Then I export those assets to a SWC library and pass it to the compiler. Now when I create an instance of the class (new MyAsset();) it will be a new instance of the library object.
But there are other classes too in the source folder (e.g. "com.myproject.model.*" so I need to pass the source folder to the compiler too. And that is the problem, now the compiler will use the MyAsset.as definition from the source path, not from the SWC where it is assigned to the library object so if I create new instance of MyAsset now it won't duplicate the library object.
Is it possible to draw out a path in the flash editor, set its visibility to hidden, and use this path data to animate objects in AS3?

I create in CS5 a flash film using some motion-tween elements. This works fine in the flash-player. If I export it to an avi-video there are the motion path shown in the Film. How can I remove this. The move format is not a solution, the motion path is not shown, but there is a strong jerking in the replay

I am one of a team of designers/coders and the team are a mix of PC and Mac users. The Flash version we work in is 8. We all take on each others Jobs from time to time and it's
becoming a problem when we need to update media in the Library as the FLA can't find them. Is there a preference or system file that we need to change etc etc? I know we can manually locate the files but at present we are designing a JSFL that automatically updates, sizes our media within the FLA and the path issue is causing a problem.

after I create a motion tween, why is it that I don't always see the path of that tween? It seems that I've got to shuffle stuff around a bit before I actually see the colored path. Is there some trick to this?
View 5 RepliesI'm trying to write a plug-in for Flash CS5 that will display the "instances path" for a selected object. I'm trying to work with JSFL.I manged to get all selected objects using fl.getDocumentDOM().selection. I iterate over the array I get and look at the objects. I am able to get each of the objects' name. What I need to do is construct the "path" to that object (e.g., scene.scene.instance4.myText). Can anyone think of a way to do that? Is there a way to get the object that contains a certain object?
View 5 RepliesI realise that I need to keep all my code on the main timeline, so now I need some serious help with targeting movieclips and buttons, when I use the target path tool (the little gun sight in the action script panel) it lets me navigate to the thing I want, but when I use it's suggestion it very often doesn't work, and I am left using trial and error to work it out. Give it an instance name.Then I look for the Parameters that used to be in the properties panel in CS3. Not there anymore.I find that the Components Inspector has Parameters in there now.OK.I need to use ContentPath to tell the component where the .xml file is so it can find the images for the scroller.Can't find 'ContentPath'.How can I point the component to a .xml file?Is there a way of getting Parameters back in with properties - it was so much easier.
View 5 RepliesI'm trying to use a motion path to make an object move around an arc, but for some reason if the path animation lasts for more than about 200 frames, it breaks the Orient to Path function.When it runs for more than 200, if you select Orient to Path, the object just retains its orientation while travelling along the path.

Is it possible to trace the path a symbol takes and create a shape(or shapes that appear as a tracing)? Very Simple example: The letter C, without serifs. Basically an arc. I would like the C to be "drawn" in the animation. I hope to simply motion tween along the C and trace it's path. I did a shape tween, and wasn't happy with the results. Plus complex paths would be very hard to shape tween.

How I should get started to achieve two things. I am creating a map with places and routes between those places.
Objective 1: When a visitor hovers over a place name, I want a tooltip to show, which they can select to be taken to another html page to display information on that place.
Objective 2: When a visitor hovers over a line or path connecting two places, a tooltip shows to identify that route, and again when the tooltip is clicked, the visitor is taken to the route details html page for further information. I want the tooltip to show up anywhere along the path which is hovered over.
I want to know, how I should start to design this and what elements will be required to achieve this, especially the tool tips. And how easy is it to make a path highlight, like a button, when hovered over, can a path have different states?

Here is an odd question, can I tile a graphic symbol in my library along a path or apply it as a stroke somehow? In Illustrator you can select an item, go to the brushes palette, select new brush, new brush pattern. Is the same functionality available in flash (even programmatically)?

View 1 RepliesI have motion tween of 100 frames. The motion tween path on the stage shows me Keyframes at every 5 frames i.e. it shows keyframe of 5,10,15,20 and so on till 100. No issues with that at all. But when trying to motion tween the duration to 99 frame or even lesser the entire motion tween path shows me each and every Keyframe on the stage which becomes so cumbersome to handle as then I have to manage all the keyframes on the stage. Whereas, when it is 100(just a frame more) it starts showing a different display. How can I have to same display if I were to reduce the motion tween to 99 or less, in that instance it is much easier to ease the frames in my animation. Is there any setting which controls this? I am using Flash Professional CS5.0
View 2 RepliesI have spent many frustrating hours trying to figure out why this is happening. It is totally broken. I need to use a motion path using 3d in a symbol. Because of the way the project is put together (for Flex) there are several FLAs that need to be converted to symbols.
So when I convert the FLA that contains a motion path with 3D, the object moves away from the path in the symbol (the 1st frame remains in place, but everything else is off the path), even though it remains correct in the main timeline.
And once I start editing the object in the symbol, the object returns to the path ok, as if it had been some strange display issue, but the 3D is all wrong - the vanishing point relative to the object has changed. The same thing happens whether I create the 3D path using "global" or "local" tool settings.

This is a head scratcher. Why would a root relative path cause a Security Sandbox error.. but an absolute path to the exact same path work fine..

View 3 RepliesI am looking to create the appearance of a shape being drawn. I need a few shapes, but for the example think of a simple U. I have tried several different approaches. First, I tried a shape tween at 45 degree increments. That was a wrong approach. Then I tried using After Effects, but the movies lacked flexibility and were laggy. Currently I am building the shapes using two shape tween MCs(an arc that goes 11.25 degrees and a line that goes 21px), and repeating it.
This seems to be working, but is very tedious, and lacks flexibility. i.e. if I decided I want the shape just a bit shorter I have to remove the MC incident from every frame. Also I have no possiblity of changing the speed without completely rebuilding the shape becasue I'm doing a frame by frame animation.
I am displaying some flash content on a fairly standard page. This works really well when the flash, xml file and html page are sitting together in the same directory.url...However, I want to display that same content in another page which is deeper inside the site but outside of the directory that houses the .swf and .xml files as well as the assets.[code]The js files are loading properly but the flash content is not, so I could use a little help getting that sorted out.

View 1 RepliesI am coming from flash to flashbuilder I have a directory, AS3_classes_dir, on my computer that stores all of my classes, including my greensock and papervision packages. In every flash app that I make I include that directory in the Source Path, so that I can import whatever I may need. Compiling in flash (using ctrl/enter) takes very little time; only the classes that are specifically imported are compiled.So today I did that in flashbuilder, included AS3_classes_dir via Flex Build Path/Source Path ... but now the compile time are a couple of minutes, even though I am not even importing ANY of the classes from within.
