I am building an AIR application where I receive UDP messages from Max/MSP using the Socket class. When testing in an internal loopback environment ( messages sent from 127.0.0.1 at port 7400 ) I can see the UDP messages being sent, as in: I can receive the messages I'm broadcasting in Max/MSP by listening to port 7400.However, the AIR app throws IO errors when trying to connect ( via the Socket class, using Socket.connect ) to aforementioned IP and port and I for the life of me can't find out why the app has no access to the internal loopback sending UTP ( if for instance, I start a Apache server at the same IP but at different port, the Socket class connects immediately to that IP - it won't receive data of course, but at least it can establish a connection )I am thinking the problem lies outside of the AS app and is an internal networking issue, I'd like to know if someone has experienced a similar error ( I'm on OS X, btw ) as I don't think it's a security sandbox error ( as the event isn't thrown, and the application type is trusted ).

I need to develop client server application that involve gaming. I have no experience in flash and I was reading about the AMF3 protocol that is compact and fast, is it better than xml/json for data exchange? Also I need it to be on port 80.
View 2 RepliesI'm currently trying to communicate between java and flex by using sockets and AMF serialized objects.
On the java side I use Amf3Input and Amf3Output from BlazeDS (flex-messaging-common.jar and flex-messaging-core.jar).
The connection is correctly established, and if i try to send object from flex to java, i can easily read objects :
FLEX side :
protected function button2_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
{
var tmp:FlexAck = new FlexAck;
tmp.id="123456789123456789123456789";
[Code]....
I am trying to pass object to the server through socket connection in actionscript 3. What is the best way to do that?
is serialization better? or should I encode it first and then sent it as string?
When I send number (int)52 s.Send(BitConverter.GetBytes((int)872415232));, flash show me trace(socket.readInt()); 872415232 If i send 872415232, flash show 52.Why? And how it fix?

I'm new to flash and following a tutorial on how to make a small game. I've made some subtle changes, namely I imported .png's and made them into shapes and now am trying to move them. Here is the tutorial:

I'm doing a flash game to go with this song on a band's website (sweet band, by the way (url...)), and the song would be playing during the game, and I want certain events to go with the beat of the song, and that would be so much easier if I could get a metronome on my flash project, and I'm running into problems with that.
I can't get an object to flash exactly 154 times every minute, because the song plays at a constant rate of 154 beats per minute. It's always a little bit off, so that after about 30 seconds, it ceases to be on beat. The object that I want to blink is called "blinker." Here is my actionscript:
Code:
var beatTimer = new Timer(60000/154); // A timer for how often I want it to appear (154 times every minute, or 154 times every 60,000 milliseconds)[code].......
I am trying to store my Application.application.parameters to my local variables
For example: var myVar:Object = Application.application.parameters;
So here is the tricky part, is I do ObjectUtil.toString(myVar)
I can see all the values and properties. However if I do myVar.clientName or any other properties I always get null or undefined.
i filled an array with some objects, i want to be able to call a random object from that array, for instance:i trace array[2] but i want the outcome to be random. Sort of like the shuffle function in PHP.
View 1 RepliesI have an app wer i drag and drop images onto a canvas and then move them on the canvas to arrange them appropriately. After that i shud be able to click on those images and draw connectors between them as the user seems required. But after dragging and dropping the images on the canvas and arranging them, when i click on the image i am getting a typeerror 1009 error, i.e, "cannot access a property or method of a null object reference".
Actually after arranging the images, i add an event listener to the image(proxy) on the canvas:
image.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, mouseClickk);
image.addEventListener(MouseEvent.DOUBLE_CLICK, mouseUpp);

i have created a character.as class that links to an object sitting on the stage.
This class i have initialize var name;
i have created a button that uses on(release){}
the problem im having is, my button does not change the value inside the object.
for example:
my object has a variable called 'name' that holds the value "ayumilove"
and the button on the stage (once click and release) would change that name to "123"
i did 2 traces, before and after. the before trace is "ayumilove", and after trace is "123" However, after i click again (the 2nd time) , it still shows "ayumilove" then "123" shouldn't it be "123" and then "123" ? This shows that the name is not renamed, but overwrite back by the default value in the object.
On my HTML page, I have <div> with an <iframe>, which references another page, that contains a Flash SWF object. If I set any of these:
display:none;
visibility:hidden;
opacity:0;
filter:alpha(opacity=0);
on the <div> that wraps the <iframe>, the SWF object sometimes remains in plain sight, while the <div>and <iframe> go out of view as expected.

This should work in the latest versions of Safari, Chrome and Firefox on a Mac and in the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer on a Windows 7 machine, and it should fail (no errors but the hiding behavior doesn't occur) in Safari on a Windows 7 machine.
It might be pertinent to note that one thing I've noticed about the SWF objects that have passed and failed are that the ones that have failed all revolve around video content whereas the ones that have passed don't. Granted I haven't tested more than a half-dozen objects, but that's quite a coincidence. :)
I am trying to use JSON decoded as a dataProvider, but no matter what I try I get errors such as the following: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert mx.collections::ArrayCollection@2a88ae01 to fl.data.DataProvider.

I've got an object that contains a dozen or so fields I want to bind to form elements, so that I can use that object to send the data back to the server to be saved.

I'm creating a client-server game. My client is a flex based game, and my server is erlang server. At the beginning, when I test directly my flex client in flash player, I can establish a connection easily to my erlang server through socket connection. And both can exchange data with no problem. The problem rise when I deploy my flex app at Apache http server, and running it using a browser by calling [URL] my flex socket sends message requesting for a crossdomain policy to my erlang server. So I create an xml message that represent a crossdomain policy, and send it back to my flex app as a response for that request.
Yet still I can't establish any permanent socket connection between my flex client and my erlang server. I know this because I add listener on my flex socket that will modify its internal state to CONNECTED, if a connection between client-server has established.
I'd like to decode a SWF file into its base FLA file and then recompile that back into an SWF. Can this be done using C#?
View 1 RepliesI am streaming flv file trough vlc media player running as http streaming server. So I am able to get the bytes but how to decode them?
Shoud I take float from the URLStream with readFloat() or plain bytes with readBytes()?
I had a php programmer write me a script to download information from a local real estate board, and it works great, but we had to have it download to an xml file using urlencode in php (there were characters in the listings that caused problems - ie. > < & "). Anyways, now I'm parsing the information in flash, and still left with a few "+" signs between street names (ie. Bear+Mountain Road).
I tried adding:
var loadVars:LoadVars = new LoadVars();loadVars.decode(i.attributes.street);trace(i.attributes.street);
In my actionscript, but I still end up with "Bear+Mountain Road."
I guess either the "decode" function doesn't work to remove "+" signs, or I'm using the wrong thing. Right now it seems to be ONLY "+" signs, so even if there is a way to search the attribute and remove them that would be great!
My AS3 Flash loads some file that is a JSON with some special characters : quelques caract\u00e8res sp\u00e9ciaux (updated) After using some str_replace('\\','\', myVar) i did get rid of the double slash, but it still won't display as an accent. is there a way to decode this string in AS3 (get back©, chars...)?
View 2 RepliesI have a problem with getting a string from server. When I get the string, it is encoded and I don't know how to encode it. In the string are normal characters and instead of special symbols are eg u010d, u011b and others. Are there some function to decode it?
View 1 RepliesIf I URL encode my flashvars, is there a prefered technique/method(s) for handling them inside as3?
During some of my testing, I recently url encode the = and & symbols, but my AS did not seem to translate them when using LoaderInfo(this.root.loaderInfo).parameters (Maybe I was doing it wrong... Hehe, it has been known to happen.) Question: Using AS3, should I decode the parameters? Or, does that happen automatically?
I assume I need to run some sort of url decode. What is the best way to handle Flashvars? Do you folks have any tips?
Simply said, I want to have an inputtextfield, a button that is linked to the textfield and a dynamic textfield as an display, to display stuff, which comes from the inputtextfield and the button.Then, I want to have items in the actionscript, like item1 = 5, or item1 = 1a, or 1a = item1. Just some code that equals to another code. But for now item1 = 5.For the button that is linked to the input textfield, has to calculate something when pressed and the dynamic textfield will display it. So if I would type in the inputtextfield 5 and press the button, it will be as example multiplied by 2, so the dynamic textfield will show 10.
Still following? The point is, I know how to set something like that up, but what I want is that when I type item1 in the textfield (which equals to 5) and press the button the dynamic text will show 10, because "2 x instance name inputtextfield" (in which intem 1 is typed, which equals 5) should be 10 right? But when I try to do this, the dynamic text will show nothing or some error. but when I type directly in the code "2 x item1" and press the button it will show 10. But I want it to double link, so "2 x (instancename inputtextfield which equals to what is typed in the field, this case: item 1 which equals to 5) and not that it stops to item1, so it will freak.
I want to know if it is possible to get the decoded frames from FLVPlayback, or if it is known another alternative to access the decoded frames from a flash player. What I want to do is to manipulate the decoded frames before they get rendered on screen. The video source could be an RTMP stream or a FLV (F4V) file.
