Variable Stop At 0

Ok, in the frame i have var Number = 100;and i have a button that says on (release) { Number -= 10;}.I also have a dynamic texbox with the variable Number.Now when i try it it takes -10 of the 100 that is in the box... BUt how do i do so it stops at 0?So when you come to zero you can click more?

I've got a list in a flash app that when an item is clicked it should add a number to a dynamic text field, my problem is that the variable I declare to store the number in either always resets to 0/ doesn't add the numbers or returns NaN.

The variable in question is

var totalNum:Number;

What I want it to do is add the numbers when a list item is selected, e.g. totalNum starts at 0, if item 1 is selected totalNum should now be 1, if item2 is then selected totalNum should be (1+2 = 3), instead the label just displays 1, then 2.

I've tried declaring the variable outside of the event, but that resulted in the label showing NaN, unfortunately (as far as my understanding goes) declaring it inside makes it a local variable which resets each time the event is called and I'm not sure how to get around this (I can't seem to get the syntax for global variables right)

I am creating a simple game for kids.  On the first page, I added an "input text" field for their first name. I called the variable firstname.When they move to the next page, I used a "dyanamic text" field so I can call them by name on this page. It works. However, When I test the game, on the first page, where the firstname is input, it shows_level0.firstname  instead of just a blank space for them to input their name. I know I fixed this in the past and it was something simple, but I can't remember how to do it

I thought I had a handle on the timer class (even just a beginners understanding), but I'm having trouble with it.I have an event listener for the timer and it starts fine i get a delay, then a tween,but when I place a myTimer.stop();in the fuction the listener called (to stop it) it dosent stop.it will repeat placing the first image, and then call the first function again

......Wait its placing the first image in (a couple of lines before the start), so Its restarting the whole movie, not just the function?

I have a contact form for which I have a tween. That contact form consists of two keyframes, first the form, I tried putting the code stop(); in the first keyframe but it didn't stop. I then changed stop(); to _root.stop();, which didn't work either. I have to stop it because otherwise users would see a thank you note before they even enter their details. What can I do? Converting to movieclip didn't work either, besides it puts a funny character when I press AltGr

f you know PHP...then you know that you can create a string variable...and then use the value of that variable to declare another variable. like this:

and it would display "success"...or like this:

and it would also display "success".

ActionScript 3.0 :: Get Main Timeline To Stop In The Beginning On Button Press To Play And At The End Stop Again?

I just got Flash CS3. I'm trying to get my main timeline to stop in the begining, on button press to play and at the end stop again. In AS2, you would just put stop(); on the first keyframe and stop(); on the last key frame and program your buttons accordingly.

The stop(); does not work!!!! It's driving me crazy. What am I missing? I've gone through the tutorials in Flash and they don't work either.Also, if you have MovieClip that contains an animation and you don't want the movie clip to be on a continuous loop how do you stop it from playing. In AS2, I would put a stop(); on the last keyframe of the movieclip's animation. This also does not work in AS3.

Actionscript 3.0 :: Movie Doesn't Stop At Any Of Stop Commands And Keeps Looping Through Itself Over And Over Again

Im attempting to make a preloader. I am very new to action script so this is what i have.

as simple as it gets, right? Wrong, the preloader works however is get this error 1087: Syntax error: extra characters found after end of program. The preloader it self works it plays and when the movie is loaded it begins the movie, however the movie doesnt stop at any of my stop commands and keeps looping through itself over and over again till i exit the window.

I've tried a couple dozen things to try and stop this movie clip, even down to the bare bones basics and its not working.I have an imported TIFF sequence that i imported onto the stage of a movie clip. Its 73 frames long, i want it to stop on frame 73.So i add the usual stop(); command but it doesn't stop, it keeps looping.On the main layer i put this movieclip in i have an AS layer that also has stop(); and moviclip.stop();But it doesn't stop at all. it just keeps repeating.I put it down to this bare basic setup just to see if i could even stop it. I have some bombs like this :

Each movieclip sjunkBomb contains an animated movieclip. When the bombs reach the bottom I want to stop the inside animation.I guess it's better to stop them so they affect the rest of the game if there are a lot of bombs. I know how to hide them with sjunkBomb[x] .visible = false; but if I want to stop them? sjunkBomb[x].stop(); doesn't work!?

my reverse button causes the timeline to ignore the stop() function on its keyframe and play backwards all the way to the start. Since it keeps trying to play the previous frame, it's frozen at frame 1.

When my animations are playing in the flashplayer and you rightclick and uncheck the play command only the animations in the main timeline stop playing. All the child animations continue to play. How do I make it so they all will stop playing when play is unchecked?

On a recent project I am working on, I created an event-based sound engine. Different components within Flex will be registered, and then the controller will listen to events and handle the information correctly. So, it just takes a custom SoundEvent or ChannelEvent to alter one of the channels, or play a sound.
 
I can not quite figure out what is wrong with my code, and I am finding myself snow-blind to the issue at hand. At first, I was going to rewrite it but I figured it would be better to learn from my mistake. Also, I realize that this is not correct for streaming sounds, but I am working off a local sound library until I get it up and running smoothly.

I have an interactive flash application that I'm building, but it's gotten kinda large (~200k) because of one large png file. So, I want to build a preloader for it, but I seem to have some difficulty getting it to a) stop looping back to scene 1, or b) look good if I use stop();

for some reason, the folowing scene's moving elements look crappy if I use stop(); in it's first frame in order to stop it from going back.

I don't want scene 1 to continuously reappear, but stop messes with the moving elements in scene 2.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Can't Stop A FLV With MyFLV.stop();

I have my Flash piece with three tabs...HOME, VIDEO and PHOTOS. If you go to VIDEO I will have several buttons that you can choose to play different videos. Right now I just have one setup. Once I click the button I jump to a new frame where i have the FLV player ON THE STAGE. The video runs great.....until I go to another frame label like Photos or HOME. The FLV player is NOT on the frame where these others are but yet it still keeps playing.

When I started to try and stop the movie I put "myFLVplayer.stop();" within my button code for the PHOTOS button. This stopped the FLV ONLY if I had went to the VIDEO section and started a movie. If I click the PHOTOS tab before the movie was played I get an error message "TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.at fish_2009_AS3_fla::MainTimeline/photos_clicked()"

Here is my code on Frame 1 of my file with the code in each button...this DOES NOT WORK....why?

In the old days when I did this I would have one FLV player on the stage spanning several frames. I wold then jump to specific frame and just load the new FLV into the player. Once I left that frame the movie stopped.

I want to declare a variable on the main timeline that can be called from anywhere in my movie. So, _global var should be the right approach. I want to declare a movie clip 'MC1' "open", or "closed" so that when it is revisited, my flash file knows the user has been there before and performs a different task from the one it does when 'MC1' was first encountered. So, i need a 'if' statement to run from the variable, when the playhead encounters the movieClip.
