Actionscript 3 :: Flex - Methods Not Found On Date Objects?
Jan 15, 2012
I am trying to compile some example actionscript code. In Flex (Flash Builder 4.6) I imported a project folder (happens to be the PurePDF examples). In a few places, I have yellow "?" icons when looking at the source files - though there are no warnings or errors showing up for them yet (I do have other errors I am addressing). This is an example - when I hover the "?" icon, I see access of undefined property getTime:
[Code]....
I cleaned up the errors I mentioned, and these yellow "?" marks still appear when viewing the code. There are no warnings or errors in the 'problems' window, but these question marks I describe are still there. Even if I close the file and clean the project and re-open the file.
I've been playing around with ABC bytecode and was hoping someone could clear up a point of confusion for me. I have a simple flash file that places a clip on the stage and has a tiny script to update its position on each frame. The code looks something like:
[Code]....
My question is how does the 'getlex' operation work (I've marked it with ###1). It is passed a multiname which references the 'moveit' method of the class. Unfortunately, the 'name' field in method info seems never ever to get used by the compiler. All methods have the empty string as its name (Shown above as the unnamed function at ###2).
How does the flash player link the multiname to the unnamed method? There appears to be no provision for this in the AVM2 spec. I know it's possible because commercial decompilers like sothink manage to determine the method name. I'm just not sure how they do it, or how the code could ever work.
I'm kind of new to AS3 and I created a blur effect for 6 text object. I got the result I wanted, but I thought there has to be a better way of doing this. When a mouse is over a text, other texts get blur. Now, I had only 6 object what if you have 10s of objects on the stage.[code]...
my date of string like (2009-12-03 21:05:00) date with time . so i used to store var newdate:Date=new Date(Date.parse(startdate)); but shows some errors.and also i tried to split string(date) used date function likevar datenumber:Number= (new Date(Date.parse(startdate))).getDate();
Does anyone know how to get actionscript to render a null date value '000:00:00T00:00:00'? I am calling a web service that expects date fields in the SOAP xml. I need some of these dates to serialize as null and I can't see how to produce null. The closest value I can get is '1899-11-30T00:00:00Z'. Below is the code I am using:
i have created an object called plane with the bellow methods. I have not defined them anyway on my script file but i am curious to find out why flash does not respond by giving me any errors telling me that the methods i.e pitch to say that they have not been defined? This is something that i would have expected flash to tell me. This results in a successful build and as a result i am able to still run the file. Why does it not notify me of any erross even though clearly they have not been declared anywhere i my script.?
var plane:Object = new Object(); plane.pitch = 0; plane.roll = 5; plane.yaw = 5;
I am experiencing a very strange behavoiour of Flex Date object. My web service is written in .Net 3.5 and all object which I am retriving or updating have Creation Date (Date Type) in .Net code.
But when I am calling .Net web service and displaying data in Flex, Flex displaying a different Date than what stored in web service. When I update my object using Flex UI, every time update time is very different than actual update time set by .Net code.
there is a movieclip named movie with instance name movie.Inside this movie there is a textbox in frame 1.I want to give properties and methods to that textbox.
I created a script that will rotate a different ad every day, based on a comparison of the current date & the ads assigned day. The bug in the script is that the number of ads vs the number of days may be odd, so the last one or two ads will miss a (days) rotation every month. Is there a way I can get this to work so every ad hits its rotation.
var displayAdOne:Array=new Array; var displayAdTwo:Array=new Array; var displayAdThree:Array=new Array;
Obviously the two date objects are somehow subtly different, and that difference somehow gets overlooked when they're parsed out as strings, but how are they different?
I have a multidimensional array where the items have Date objects. I 've tried to use Array.sortOn(myDate) with no success. Do I have to convert the Date to a string (like 20070731) to use sortOn correctly?
I have to validate that 1) the end Date is not less than the start Date and 2) the difference between the two UTC Dates is not more than 12 months. To do this, I need a monthDifference function:
public static function monthDifference(start:Date, end:Date):int;
Since partial months can be confusing, this is how month differences are supposed to work:
The month difference between January 1, 2010 and January 31, 2010 is zero (0).
The month difference between January 31, 2010 and February 1, 2010 is one (1).
The month difference between January 1, 2010 and February 28, 2010 is one (1).
The month difference between January 1, 2010 and March 1, 2010 is two (2).
How can I calculate month difference in ActionScript 3.0?
I am attempting to set the propreties of a navigation button (movie clip) that has been built dynamically. The button contains a text field that I want to format and a movie clip that I want to adjust the alpha. I find the object using getChildByName(), however do not seem to be able to set the properties using the code below.[code]
I am working on an application that is near the end of its development cycle and has mostly passed user testing. We recently realized that having flex convert dates to the client's local timezone is not desired, as all of our dates are in EST and contain no time data. Since BlazeDS sends dates in UTC, this results in the dates being converted to the day before in timezones west of EST.
The best solution is to go in and refactor all dates to adjust for the timezone offset, but that is just not doable at this stage. Since all dates in our application don't care about time, I would really like to be able to intercept all Date objects that come across BlazeDS and adjust for the timezone offset.
I've read in the flex developer guide that you sometimes need to override one of the lifecycle methods like: commitProperties and updateDisplayList but I've written a few flex apps without ever needing to implement them.when do I need to override them?
I am encountering a problem in my app only when it is run in flash player 10.1.85.3. Some earlier player versions I have tried are working fine.From what I can tell it seems related to the following:

When searching for objects (not strings) in Dictionary objects using the 'in' operator, if the object is not found in the Dictionary object, it will be searched for in the delegate objects. With 10.1, the toString operator will be called on the Object if not found in the Dictionary. This can cause problems with Proxy objects who need to define the callProperty function or it will generate a RTE. ...what it means "it will be searched for in the delegate objects"?
Like java, you can specify that method you are calling throws certain exception. For e.g.- public void getListOfAssessments() throws SQLException; So, is there any way we can achieve this in ActionScript (Flex)?
I am still very new to Actionscript and have an okay working knowledge of Flex. I am working on an AIR application that runs a SQLite database underneath. The database is only 3 tables (projects, items and types). I was wondering if Actionscript best practices are to use a data access object or layer to store all of my database functions or to just run them inline as needed. I would assume an access layer would be best for interacting with the database for usability, but I can't seem to find much documentation for SQLite in AIR.
How would you go about calling the public properties and methods of a SWF you load in actionscript?
I have been using stackoverflow for years to answer my programming questions so I wanted to give back by writing a guide to an issue I had a lot of trouble figuring out. This is my first user guide so tell me if there is anything I can do to improve it.
Looking for some ideas, strategies, tools, etc. on creating reports from Flash Builder / Flex 4. I have a flex application that allows create/read/update/delete of client information from a back-end database. It uses web services (zend amf -> mongo db or mysql). I already have the client data IN flex via the web service as a collection for example. A user requests the ability to generate a report - to display a list of clients under a certain age in a tabular excel style grid (datagrid most likely).
It will be sorted and subtotaled by a demographic such as "insurance type". Ideally the user would like to be able to select the insurance types allowed on the report (or in the datagrid/pivot table). I know one option would be to present the user with a series of check boxes or a multi-select list to choose the insurance types. Then, present them with a data grid or advanced data grid component to display the 'report'. What other techniques, options or components are available / have people used?
My question is Should above logic go in updtaeDisplayList or remain in set data() itself. The output is smae from both. Whats the performance impact difference if we consider it from lifecycle perspective.(The heavy computations should be pushed towards the end of the frame rendering)
i've been struggling with this issue. I need to load a flex swf into a flash as3 shell and then call its methods. I can see the flex swf no problem - but calling its methods - nothing works. Now considering LocalConnection or even ExternalInterface to communicate between the two.
Internally Flash obviously keeps a list of the primitives drawn using Graphics so I wondered if you have many such primitives in a Sprite, can you re-position/remove/alter individual items rather than clear and re-draw everything? Or is this deeper into the bowels of Flash than you're allowed (or recommended) to go?
I'm using Zend AMF to send my remote objects to Flex. I've defined a Constant class and created getASClassName() method. Then I've created Action script class in flex.
Objects are send successfully, but they are deserialized to generic Objects in Flex instead of specific ones. EDIT: On network monitor in Flex I can see that AMF value is set to com.my.project.valueobjects.Constant. Although array from event.result contains Objects.
