Flash :: How To Methods Found In AVM2 Bytecode

Nov 3, 2010

I've been playing around with ABC bytecode and was hoping someone could clear up a point of confusion for me. I have a simple flash file that places a clip on the stage and has a tiny script to update its position on each frame. The code looks something like:

[Code]....

My question is how does the 'getlex' operation work (I've marked it with ###1). It is passed a multiname which references the 'moveit' method of the class. Unfortunately, the 'name' field in method info seems never ever to get used by the compiler. All methods have the empty string as its name (Shown above as the unnamed function at ###2).

How does the flash player link the multiname to the unnamed method? There appears to be no provision for this in the AVM2 spec. I know it's possible because commercial decompilers like sothink manage to determine the method name. I'm just not sure how they do it, or how the code could ever work.

Actionscript 3 :: Flex - Methods Not Found On Date Objects?

Jan 15, 2012

I am trying to compile some example actionscript code. In Flex (Flash Builder 4.6) I imported a project folder (happens to be the PurePDF examples). In a few places, I have yellow "?" icons when looking at the source files - though there are no warnings or errors showing up for them yet (I do have other errors I am addressing). This is an example - when I hover the "?" icon, I see access of undefined property getTime:

[Code]....

I cleaned up the errors I mentioned, and these yellow "?" marks still appear when viewing the code. There are no warnings or errors in the 'problems' window, but these question marks I describe are still there. Even if I close the file and clean the project and re-open the file.

Flash :: Localy Execute Actionscript Bytecode

Nov 24, 2009

i want to execute a piece of bytecode so that it will run in a specific scope ? for example i want to be able to run this code

label.x = 100+label.width

and have it react to a label instance that is somewhere inside the compiled swf. i want the code have the 'this' keyword of my abc code to point to the parent of the label instance. as i understand the eval library at [URL] will convert AS3 code to abc, which has to be loaded in as if it were an external swf. so the this keyword would always point to "global"

in the examples at hurlant the only way to access anything in the loading swf is to create a top-level class without packages i also found this page [URL] actionscript to be usefull. it has a class that allows you to pass data from the scope of the evaluation.

that is something, but what i really wanted is to actually execute it 'directly at' the scope of evaluation anybody know if this is possible ? i just want to create a command line from where i can execute code and also trace properties of the running swf. for example i want trace(label.x) to work, and set properties by doing label.text = "bla" etc...

Flash :: Saving Bytecode Of A Class (to SharedObject Or Database)

Mar 11, 2011

NOTE: I want to save the actual bytecode for the AS3 class, NOT an instance of it! A class is being loaded in externally and extracted via a URLLoader and then Loader.loadBytes. A single Class is then extracted out of that Application Domain and used in the project. Now, rather than saving the entire Loader (either via SharedObject or other means of storage) is it possible to "extract out" the bytecode of the needed class and all dependencies, which can then be "injected" back into an empty shell or something to be reused when needed?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Reading ABC Bytecode With A Hex Editor?

Jul 7, 2010

I have tried to learn a bit of the way AS3 works behind the scenes by skimming the surface of the AS3 bytecode. I started with this document, and so far I'm at page 25 of 278. [URL] I tried following along a bit, opening a SWF I had laying around and exploring the header. I was able to read the first 4 bytes until I got to "FrameSize". The data type for that was RECT (found on page 16) The problem is, the first value of the RECT is stored as 5 BITS (not bytes). Since it doesn't round up to an even 16 bits per "chunk of data", it throws the "offset" of all bits off.

This means that unless I manually copy down the SWF hex values into binary data, reading this information simply with a Hex editor would not work, correct? Or is there anything I have missed such as some form of padding to offset this etc?

Flash :: Unloaded AVM1 Swfs Trace Out As Unloaded But Memory Is Not Freed For The AVM2 Machine

Mar 29, 2010

I have a large project built in as3. Part of its main functionality is to load and unload various as2 swfs. The problem is that the memory ins't free up once they are unloaded.

I have access to the as2 swfs code base and destroyed all objects, stopped and killed timers, listeners, removed from stage, destroyed all the MovieClip.protoypes that were created. They look to be clean as far as the AS2 debugger show no remnants of the object after the destroy function is run. In AS3 i've closed the local connection, cleaned all references/listeners to the AVM1Movie and ran Loader.unloadAndStop(). The trace out in flex says the swf was unloaded but looking at windows task manager the memory usage never drops to when it was before the as2 swf was loaded. Each as2 swf can take up to 80 megs each time it's run so memory gets eaten up fast and loading and unloading a few as2 files.

At this point if the AS2 swfs are unloaded the only thing that I can assume that could be left is MovieClip.prototype and/or _global, _root variables add during the AS2's run time. But i've gone through those and can't find anything else that might be sticking. Has anyone ever seen problems before with the AVM1 machine not freeing up its memory?

Flash :: Selenium Calling The Wrong Methods?

Dec 13, 2010

Seems like sometimes when Selenium should call a certain method, it instead calls another, as pointed out by the following log

[Code]...

I've tried both Selenium server 1.0.3 and the 2.0 alpha 7 versions, they both display this behaviour. FlashSelenium is involved so I'm not sure where along the way lies the bug. Furthermore it's hard to reproduce as it doesn't happen only for some methods, and doesn't always happen.

I've tried searching for issues similar to these but couldn't find any remotely similar... Anyone experienced the same behavior? And if so, is there a fix for it? Edit: I doubt FlashSelenium is at fault for this, as the log tells that the command arrives correctly at the server... But I can't seem to be able to follow the path of execution from the moment the Selenium server gets the command and passes over to the browser, to the moment where it gets the response.

Actionscript 3 :: Methods That Flash Apps Communicate With Each Other?

Feb 3, 2012

I'm developing an interactive system where two client flash apps will talk to a third server app. The clients will be sending some status information to the server. I think I need two way communication...haven't decided whether the server needs to send back any acknowledgements yet.

These will be applications and not .swfs that run in a browser.So far the only method that I see are to make the server an AIR app (b/c AIR has a Server Socket class) and make the clients Flash projectors (b/c Flash has a Sockets class).

Are there other methods that I can use connect my apps together? These 3 machines will basically be living a few feet from each other and they will be on their own dedicated network.The machines will live within their own little private network. They won't be accessing the outside world.

Flash :: Swf Files Have Inbuilt Methods For Interfacing With Javascript?

Feb 5, 2011

I don't work with Flash and consequently know nothing of it, but I have the task of embedding a swf film into a web page. I know nothing about the swf's internal design, other than it plays a short film. I'd like to control when the swf starts playing, rewind it (it will be played infinitely), and possibly even cache it in the browser. It will be part of a Javascript-powered rotation of images, in which the <img> element will be temporarily replaced with an <object> for the swf.

My question is do swf files have an interface for Javascript built-in when compiled (Actionscript I think?), or would this entirely depend on the author's decision to include such code? If it is dependent on the author's inclusion of the code, are there any possible tests I can run to see what methods might be available?

Flash - Access Methods Of MovieClip Inside ScrollPane?

May 9, 2011

I'm using a movieClip inside a ScrollPane to show a list of CheckBoxes. The amount of CheckBoxes shown is dynamic, it depends on a SQL query. After the query is done, I add as many CheckBoxes as rows in the result set. What I am trying to do is to access some methods I wrote in the MovieClip inside the ScrollPane to get the length of the CheckBoxes, check which ones are selected and the label they have (their label is also defined by the SQL query).

I've tried this
valueINeedToGet = Object(root).scrollPaneInstance.source.functionINeedToRun();
But it returns error #1006
How can I access the code inside the MovieClip inside the ScrollPane?

Flash :: Use Graphics (for Ex) Methods Without Prefixing An Instance Variable?

Jun 28, 2011

I'm new to AS3 and HaXe, but was hoping to find a way to use methods from a final class (Graphics) without always prefixing an instance variable.Instead of something like this:

var gr:Graphics = flash.Lib.current.graphics;
gr.clear();
gr.beginFill(0xffffff, 1);
gr.drawRect(0,0,400,400);

I was hoping to get something that works like processing.org, but I guess a lot of the convenience there comes from the preprocessing. I looked at the HaXe reference on advanced types (http://haxe.org/ref/type_advanced), but I haven't been able to make anything work so far. This probably isn't possible since Graphics is final, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. It seems it would be easy if I could extend Graphics
