what I would call "core libraries" of AS3 (yes, that might not be the exact term in this case, but what I mean nevertheless). So for instance, when I type:

what exactly happens in the graphics-object? I assume that it will be calls to a rendering API of the AVM2, but how does this look like? Is there any way to look at it, or are these sources completely closed for anyone outside of Adobe?

I'm coding an XML photo gallery that displays thumbnails on the stage. But only 9 of these thumbnails can be viewed at a time. So I created a multidimensional array that groups my XML image nodes in groups of 9. The array is loading flawlessly but my thumbnail display function is having a few issues. First, only one image is being displayed instead of all images in the array. And I tried tracing the array in the output panel and it lists all the image files just fine. So I don't understand why the loadClip function is not rendering the images on stage. And secondly my grid repositioning function is not arranging the images as I would like it to (3x3 matrix).

I've been playing around with ABC bytecode and was hoping someone could clear up a point of confusion for me. I have a simple flash file that places a clip on the stage and has a tiny script to update its position on each frame. The code looks something like:

My question is how does the 'getlex' operation work (I've marked it with ###1). It is passed a multiname which references the 'moveit' method of the class. Unfortunately, the 'name' field in method info seems never ever to get used by the compiler. All methods have the empty string as its name (Shown above as the unnamed function at ###2).

How does the flash player link the multiname to the unnamed method? There appears to be no provision for this in the AVM2 spec. I know it's possible because commercial decompilers like sothink manage to determine the method name. I'm just not sure how they do it, or how the code could ever work.

Let's say we have a directory with 10,000 SWF files.There is a great need to determine what SWF files are AVM1 (AS2 or earlier), and what SWF files are AVM2 (AS3).Can anyone point me in the right direction to determine the AVM version for a large amount of files?It seems like I could write a script that loops through every file, checks some magic hex value in the file's binary data, and records the result somewhere.

Flash :: Unloaded AVM1 Swfs Trace Out As Unloaded But Memory Is Not Freed For The AVM2 Machine

I have a large project built in as3. Part of its main functionality is to load and unload various as2 swfs. The problem is that the memory ins't free up once they are unloaded.

I have access to the as2 swfs code base and destroyed all objects, stopped and killed timers, listeners, removed from stage, destroyed all the MovieClip.protoypes that were created. They look to be clean as far as the AS2 debugger show no remnants of the object after the destroy function is run. In AS3 i've closed the local connection, cleaned all references/listeners to the AVM1Movie and ran Loader.unloadAndStop(). The trace out in flex says the swf was unloaded but looking at windows task manager the memory usage never drops to when it was before the as2 swf was loaded. Each as2 swf can take up to 80 megs each time it's run so memory gets eaten up fast and loading and unloading a few as2 files.

At this point if the AS2 swfs are unloaded the only thing that I can assume that could be left is MovieClip.prototype and/or _global, _root variables add during the AS2's run time. But i've gone through those and can't find anything else that might be sticking. Has anyone ever seen problems before with the AVM1 machine not freeing up its memory?

Why is it that the mx.core.Container uses its contentPane sometimes, but doesn't at other times?Or, in other words, how come the children of Container are only put into the contentPane if some complex logic decides that they should be put there? This is giving me major headaches! I'm having trouble even describing the problem in words. Basically, I want to be able to manage a core library (coreLib) of Actionscript classes with the following requirements: latest version is checked out when a new project starts. a dev can make changes to the coreLib and then commit them back into the repo as project is written (maybe bug-fixes, added features, etc.) the project contains a 'snapshot' of the coreLib so that, if returned to months later, it (as automatically as possible) has a copy of the coreLib that has guaranteed compatibility with the project.

I tried using externals but this can break compatibility going backwards. I'm currently exporting the coreLib into the project and its VC'd along with the project. I can't figure out how to get the changes back into the repo though, without just copying over the top and losing history.

I'm developing a p2p mutliplayer game using adobe rtmfp server on facebook using flex 4. I have box2d for physics engine and the hardware acceleration is on. In 60fps, Average cpu cost for 6 players room is %40 for 1.86mhz intel core 2 duo. But in 8 and more players rooms, the cpu usage increases to %50 and fps drops to 50. I'm guessing that flash player uses only 1 core in full performance and resting the other. However I need all cores for 8+ rooms to simulate 60 fps smooth game. Is there a way to make flash use multiple cores at once?

I'm making changes to this website i didn't build everything was going fine with the xml. I have to make changes to this file called content.swf but i don't know how this file was created, i'm assuming it was created with a file called Main.as When I try to export Main.as a swf i get this mx.core error. I know this is a flex package. I download flex sdk 3 and 4. When I try to export Main.as in flash CS5 it tells me I need to locate the flex path, so i choosed flex sdk3 and flex sdk4 on two different occasions it still wont work.

Here is the window that pop ups:"You have used a feature that requires Flex SDK:"Embed" metadata set the Flex SDK path if necessary and add it to the library path for this file. The Flex SDK folder contains the bin, frameworks, lib and other folders:

I am trying to create a large flex project. This Project consists of a CORE application, and other sub-applications.The CORE application should contain information that will be shared by all other projects (e.g., link to database, data manager which loads data from the database, application information like height width colors fonts... etc.).

The sub-applications each has a certain task. Each sub-application is a large project by itself so I don't think its a good idea to put all code inside one HUGE project.The CORE project should run the main application, and through a navigation menu, I should be able to click and run other sub-applications.Is there a way to created the CORE application to reference those sub-applications so that I can run them inside of the CORE. At the same time, those sub-applications should reference the CORE applications to get the NetConnection to the database and other important information that they might share?

Is mx.core.* something in the flex sdk / framework? I am trying to get the unserializer from [URL] to work with flash CS4, and I am getting the compiler error: 1004: Namespace was not found or is not a compile-time constant. The lines called out in the package are: use namespace mx_internal and mx_internal static var c:uint;

I don't know the first thing about namespaces, but does anyone know how to get this package/class working in CS4 AS3? It might be something simple I am missing. I have attached the .as package file (uploaded as a txt file) if anyone wants a look... I am having to get a lot of lists from a mySQL database and it is becoming a real pain urlencoding them all manually. If I could just urlencode(serialize($result)); in php and send that file to AS3 to be decode it would be so much simpler.
