View 1 RepliesI have created a video, gone through the steps in flash cs3, and made the corresponding .swf and .flv files. I publish preview - html and everything works great, the video plays, the skin shows up and functions flawlessly. Then, I put the .flv, .swf, and skin.swf files on my hosting server put the html in my site code, and the skin won't show up. The video plays on its own, and the space is blank where the skin should be, just the skin is not there. I have tried most anything I can that I have found scouring message boards, etc, but none of the solutions are working for me.
View 23 RepliesI have encoded the Flash movies with the "ClearOverPlaySeekMute" skin and uploaded the swf to the same directory as the main video swf. The skin does not display. (in any of them)
I thought that the skin had to be in the same directory as the swf, althought I have read that some say it should be where the html file is. Since WP is PHP is is less clear where it should go. I have uploaded the file to the WP folder, to the theme folder, and to the include folder but it still does not display.[code]...
first I tried to install the NewGrounds Ad component for AS 3.0 which delivers as an .xmp file. I doubleclicked it and in the Extension Manager it's listed as active under Flash CS5. I restarted flash, but the component does not show up in the components list.I then tried to install the minimal components fromwhich are delivered as an SWC. I went to the ActionScript 3.0 settings in flash, went to the "library path" tab and clicked browse to swc to select the SWC file. but these components don't show up in the components list either.

I have a couple of video clips loading to the stage via loadExternalMovieclip. The video clips were imported FLV's, given skin styles, and exported as SWF's. When I open the SWF's directly in FLash Player, all is well -- the controls appear and work fine. But when they are loaded into an empty, placeholder MovieClip, the skin does not appear![url]...
View 10 RepliesIn order to set a background image for my Desktop Flex application, I created a custom skin class, setting the skinClass property to my custom MXML skin. The host component is SkinnableContainer. I use a bitmap image for the custom MXML skin. Everything works fine, except that it's drawing over all my components. How do I get the skin to draw in the background? Should I move the Bitmap markup to somewhere else in my skin file?
View 1 RepliesI'm doing a kind of PowerPoint presentation (to give a very basic idea of the whole concept) and there are a variety of dynamic content in there. Videos, audios, quizzes, etc. What I'd like to have, is components that the designers will simply have to drag on a slide and the component would then handle much of the work without needing any code at all.
The problem I have, is that I'd like to use SWC-based components, and then have a skin that can be applied (a bit like the FLVPlayback component). I have no idea where to go from here though, because most tutorials I find use FLA-based components. And I could turn to that if what I want to do ends up being too much trouble for what it's worth, but the division of the skin and the actual component is something I like a lot. Designers will only need to do a skin and tada, everything will (in theory :P) work.
I want to use a Spark ComboBox with numerous MX Components but the Spark ComboBox does not look the same as the MX Components. Is there a skin I can use to Skin Spark components like MX components?

I created a class in actionscritpt that extends the spark.components.Button, as I will be loading a bunch of buttons at runtime. I have a SkinnableContainer.mxml file that the spark buttons will be loaded into.When I use the addElement() method within that mxml file like so my custom skin for my button does not show.

For example the spark ComboBox.Where is the default skin?Is it generated (at compile or runtime)?If it was in fact written by someone how does the compiler/Virtual Machine know where to find the skin class? I didn't see a location specified in the ComboBox source.
View 1 RepliesHow do I get my Elapsed/Total Time dynamic text boxes into a flash skin template. I put the boxes in the skin and have the code to make it work on my main stage yet it doest do anything. When i put the text boxes on the stage it works...
View 3 RepliesI am willing to do something like this in flash. Just 2-3 clocks showing times of different countries will also do.
I figured out that it has to be done by GMT, Time Zone but don't know how. I don't know php or jawa or any other language. Just basic flash scripting.
I'm using an mp3player skin, but the running time won't work (bottom of code)--it stays at "0:00" when you hit play. Everything else is working fine.[code]
View 1 RepliesI have built a basic theme for my Flex app. I would like to add support for additional predefined themes. By default, app has a theme and I would like it to change when user selects a theme from dropdown list. This can be done by loading a swf file using styleManager. However, all the skins have colors hard-coded in them. So, in order to achieve this I would have to duplicate skins and change value of the colors.
Is there a better way of doing this? Can I just have a skin that will change color values dynamically based on user selection?
I want to separate the time_txt inside the counter_mc into two objects. One displaying just the displayheadTime and the other the totalTime. I want to do this on the skin file. What my problem is I can't seem to find the part where the text is being set at all. I am using CS5/FlvPlayback 2.5.
View 1 RepliesI have a general question about AS3. I recently purchased a piece of code - an image scroller - as a component. I like the component, and it works well - except for one issue. When I first addChild the component to the display list of a Sprite, it works well, and the images begin with image 1. However, when I removeChild the component, and then later addChild it again, the images display at a seemingly random point along the image sequence. The component has a settings file and an images array which are xml files, and I have three separate pairs, one for each instance. My question is this: is their a way to force components to re-evaulate ("re-set") each time they load? I'd like to component to move to first image everytime.

I'm trying to use fl.controls.Button under Flash CS3 to replace some "classic" custom button symbols with resizable ones with a consistent look and feel. However, I want to apply an icon to the button when authoring the layout of a particular frame on the timeline - but the only way I can see to set the icon style on a button is at runtime with myButton.setStyle(). Is there no way to customise style properties of AS3 Components when authoring on the stage, such that the preview in the IDE vaguely matches the end result? The 'Properties' inspector only provides 'emphasized', 'label', 'labelPlacement', 'selected' and 'toggle' inspectable properties - how do I assign style information at authoring-time?
View 7 RepliesI am created a dynamically adding a VBox, that contains two images. Into a Custom Component that is derived from UIComponent. The problem is the Vbox that contains the two image is only a really tiny size. I would like the VBox stretch to the size of the two images. This is how I am creating the Vbox....

SkinParts are a great way to add event handlers and logic to an object that is instantiated in the skin, away from any business code. Often, though, I find myself wanting to do the opposite, and define parts that will be used in reusable, skinnable containers in the parent mxml files which will be inserted into the skinned containers.
What's the best practice for when you want to be able to define a control and a skin which can be reused with different controls inserted from outside the skin? Edit: A better way to put this might be that I want to use something that works a little bit like a SkinnableContainer, but that isn't limited to one area where content can be placed.
I'm using the default CS4 FLVPlayback skin, mainly the SkinOverPlayMute.swf. I know there's a skinAutoHide option, but because I don't want it to auto play, I want people to see a play button when they first encounter the video (so they don't think it's just an image). But the skin needs to hide when the video is actually playing (so the video doesn't get blocked by the controls).
In other works - when video isn't playing: skin showing; when video is playing: skin hide.
I extend Button to create ImageButton, and I extend ButtonSkin to create ImageButtonSkin. But, when I define hostComponent like this:
public var hostComponent:ImageButton
I get an error that there is a conflict with hostComponent:ButtonBase inside the ButttonSkinBase. How do I extend a skin AND provide a new hostComponent for it?
In my application I want to show 5 clock. In the clock shows international time depend on country based But Normal clock time I will get sytem time (getmintues and gethours) and show. How can show all country time? I tried below code for animation.

_global.styles.rectBorderClass,
DepthManager.kBottom, { styleName : this });

If the user navigates away from the screen its on, and come back, the text field cant take input anymore. Flash says the field is there. That its a input field. The pointer changes alrigt, but i cant type into it? and the bug fixing text i put into it disappears. When navigating to another page i kill the movieclip its in with:

View 1 RepliesI'm absolutely new to AS and wondering why this doesn't move the way I'd like it to...Logically, shouldn't the x increment display each time it happens, showing a constant animation? Instead, the x increments 50 at a time, so the rect is at 0, then it's a 50
Code:
var container:Sprite = new Sprite();
var item:Sprite = new Sprite();

I need to do a countdown time coder showing minutes, seconds and frames (25fps). I've searched a lot but w/out a fish The only similar thing I found is the Kirupa's tut, but I think it's too much graphical (I'd like it only w/ fonts) and actually I'm not so AS skilled Does anybody know where can I start or a good tut?
View 2 RepliesI'm new to Flex and am using TileList bound to an ArrayCollection. The array collection is empty at load time, and then updates with the results from am HTTPService call. The problem is that the item renderers aren't being rendered as expected, I'm guessing because there was no data when they were first rendered at load time. Here's simplified example:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" >
<mx:Script>
