I'm not sure if this is at all possible, but I've been trying this for hours with no prevale. I can only presume I'm over complicating things.

I've generated a awkward looking string using variables, and arrays:

Code:

var myArray:Array = new Array("test0", "test1", "test2");
var myString:string = someVar+"World_"+myArray[2]);

ActionScript 2.0 :: Images - Dynamic Loading Into Array And Displaying

Apr 11, 2005

I'm trying to create something that will load a bunch of images into an array and then be displayed whenever needed via using the attachMovie() function.

Code:
for (var i=1; i<list.length; i++) { //list is an array full of urls to images
_root.createEmptyMovieClip("img"+i,i);
loadMovie(list[i], "_root.img"+i);
}

I dont think this is what I want because I don't actually want the images to appear right here (this is the loading part). What I want is each image to be in a separate symbol with a unique identifier so that I can create them dynamically during runtime.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamic Slideshow - Loading Images Using XML Info From Array

May 25, 2009

I've constructed a dynamic slideshow using ActionScript 2.0 and PHP/MySQL. The reason for this, aside from update purposes, is that the slideshow will eventually display over 200 images. Thus, to save loading time and bandwidth, I decided to use PHP to pull ten images from an SQL database, formatting the output in XML. The slideshow itself works fine. Unfortunately, there are a couple of issues I need to address; my ActionScript is extremely rusty, so much of my work's patchy.

The code's displayed below:
import mx.transitions.Tween;
import mx.transitions.easing.*;
var myShowXML = new XML();
myShowXML.ignoreWhite = true;
myShowXML.load("getData.php");
[Code] .....

The code in red is my main focus. It's the loop which loads all images as movie clips using the XML information from an array. The loop loads all of the images, making them transparent before the presentation begins. What I would like to do instead, to save loading time, is to load the next image while the current one is displaying. The function "moveSlide" controls the transition of the images, so I'd imaging it'd be best to plade it in there.

There's already an incremental variable being used, with _root.target_mc, for removing transparency from the current slide. The code in blue is also nagging me quite severely. I retrieve the next chain of slides by simply contacting the PHP script again. The only way I could think of doing that was to refresh the slideshow (this is done COMPLETELY in ActionScript, with nothing on the stage). Unfortunately, I could only work out how to reload the whole video.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Calling A Function With An Array Variable As Arguments Is Resetting Array?

Oct 12, 2006

I'm going to post the full code of the two functions, disregard the "fluff" unrelated to the two functions as it is all working flawless, I've tested this HEAVILY and cannot understand why it keeps setting the entire array to undefined!

Code:
// processReplace Function
function processReplace(transferFiles) {
var processArray:Array = transferFiles.slice();

[Code]....

Basically it's supposed to check to see if the file exists and return as true if it does and add it to a replace array, then the replace array is processed into a single string and put into a dialog box through the flash wrapper prompting them to "replace the files or not".

It makes the replace array just fine, it actually even has the right "count" in it but it's setting all the "filenames" to undefined because of the exists = processSearch function.

I even tried to make a new array and run the search just from that one and set the values from the old one and it's still failing.

Is it because of the "break" or can anyone figure it out? Iknow it's hard because you can't use the code

Actionscript 3 :: Calling A Variable Given Its String Name

var notMyvar = "this is some other variable";
var thirdVar = "this is some third var";
var nameOfVarToCall = "myvar";
//print the content of the var name specified, in this case "myvar"

I have a string which contains the name of a variable I need. What I want to do is find out the name of var (in this case "myvar") and use the name to access the value of the var (in this case just print out the value). Is this feature available in Actionscript. I know it's available in PHP and can come in very handy.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Calling Object With String?

Feb 15, 2011

my library is filled with a movie clip for each letter in the alphabet (26 movie clips). I also have a blank symbol on the stage. When the movie starts, it generates a random 8 letter string from an array of letters. The next part is supposed to take the first letter of the newly generated string, pull the corresponding movie clip from the library, and display it in the blank symbol on the stage. After that, it moves to the 2nd letter, and so on. Ultimately I'm trying to have 8 random letters from the alphabet array set the corresponding movie clips on the stage.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Attaching Sounds To Movie Clips In An Array

Jul 22, 2009

Bit of a problem with trying to attach a sound to a series of movie clips stored in an array. I miss attachSound from AS2, it was so cool. Background first. I'm making a simple pairs game where the aim is to match the 2 cards that have the same sound attachted to it. I'm storing my card movie clips in an array to build the grid (obviously lol) and I have 18 audio files in my library with the class names s0 - s17. Code breakdown below. Apologies if this doesn't appear in code format,[code]I have two issues.

1 - how would I add a sound to each movie clip in the for loop in preparation for adding another function which is called when the user clicks the movie clip and the sound plays?

2 - the grid is 36 tiles long , so to make the whole pairs game work I need to attach each sound twice, and then again I will create another function which will then shuffle them randomly.
