Actionscript 3 :: Kick Start Template Based Flash Website?
Apr 28, 2010
I'm very new to flash and as3 design patterns. But I can read and write as3 quite ok, i've created small widgets with that. I've developed several web sites using php and also python.
Now for a educational cd-rom project i'm working on, i've basically designed all templates (A home page, a generic page with navigation and a sidebar - kind of like a wordpress blog). I have all the data for the cdrom on word files, which i intend to place on xml files.
My question is what is the best way to start a project like this? Can anyone guide me to a template or something that can be used for kickstarting this? kind of like a wordpress (without the admin)? Or am i on this all wrong?
I purchased a template from a website (Dreamline Studio) and have downloaded the included files. I have Adobe Design Premium CS4 loaded on my computer. Now that the files are saved to my computer, how do I actually start trying to make edits to this template? I tried to open the file(s) in Flash but it keeps saying that its an unexpected file type. I downloaded all recent updates from Adobe to make sure I had the latest releases for CS4 but this did not . I'm sure this is simple and I am excited to actually begin learning Flash, but for the life of me - I just can't figure out how to GET STARTED
So I have basic flash knowledge but not to much. I'm editing the majority of the template perfectly. When I want to test out how the changes are I export the it into a flash movie, than click on the index.html (which is linked to the flash movie) everything works fine.
Here is where the problem comes in, on one of the pages the template had a bunch of link that I do not want so I delete the links layer. When I do that and export the movie agian, everything gets screwed up it like flips out when I open the file and runs everything double speed than shuts down.
I have a test site up here and as you can see, the Flash movie plays fine. But when you navigate to an inside page it does not. The flash movie has an action in the native file that references an xml file to list the images. So why wouldn't the inside pages do the same?
Completely new to Flash CS3, Photoshop CS4, Adobe Dreamweaver, but looking forward to learning about them.My question is this. I'm putting together a horse website and was going to use this templateQuestion 1.All I want to do is change the images to horse photos and change the layout of one of the pages. Considering that I'm a complete novice, is it straight-forward enough to be able to do basic editing of these type of templates and change the images?? Question 2:It states on some of this templates that the requirements for flash are Flash MX2004. Is this the same as Flash CS3. Can I use Flash CS3 for this
I downloaded a XML based website flash template and made some modifications to it. With this template there was few fonts included in separate folder (I had to install them to view swf and edit fla correctly) after all my mods done I published it to swf file and opened local file with browser, everything was working perfectly at this moment. Then I asked my friend if it could upload it on his server to check if this website looks the same on the web. I noticed that text (which is written with custom font that was included) is either missing or misplaced
I am using flash website template and editing with Flash CS4 and Dreamweaver. There are subwindows that open when clicking on menu buttons that have dynamic text elements. I am trying to change the text in these windows.I changed the names of the menu items that open these windows but the dynamic text is still displaying the old menu names as well as a numbering system(I.E. Services #1, Services#2, etc..) . I've looked through the content.xml, index.html, and of course the main.fla, How do I change the text displayed in these dynamic text elements?
ive got this problem, i downloaded a website template and now im changing it to what i want. The 5 menu names are inside the same movie clip called Menu01. however its the same movie clip in each place of each menu so when i go to edit in place each menu comes up with home. Yet when i play the file they all come up with what there suppose to?
I just started using Adobe Flash CS4. I am a newbie and do not have flash experience other than teaching myself how to do it. Problem. I have a website template that allows full customization and has 4 flashing text buttons on the header. Everything has been working flawlessly until this....When I go to change the text for any one of the text buttons it changes the text in all of the other text buttons regardless of what I do.
Does anybody know a way for a swf file to communicate with the site its placed in. What I mean is I have a flash file with a start up screen in it, which has a tick box saying "Don't show this screen again" which skips to the sites content when tick, the same as what some adobe applications have when first started up. I think this might be able to be done using sharedObjects? But what I can't do is re-activate the start up screen from outside of the flash file. Is sharedObjects the way to go?
I'm creating a whole website with one .fla file. I'll attach the flash file to a html page in dreamweaver and that'll be that. But something has occured to me and that is if anyone presses the refresh button, the whole site will jump to the frame just after the preloader. Which would be fine under a normal circumstance if the main page were on that frame but in this website there is a movieclip on that frame which forms into the main page on the frame after.

Or should it be done using javascript?
I'm looking for a way to have an .mp3 file play in a website without relying on a flash-based player. I've searched w3 schools and every forum I can think of, but every media player I've found so far has been some sort of proprietary flash player.
Doesn't HTML support some sort of native player? I've found some that rely on Windows Media Player which is close, but I want the player to work on an iPhone and something tells me WMP won't get that done.
I have a website template in which I am trying to change the header text words and menu text words to customize the template. How do I do this in Flash CS4?
Suppose you have a view, which contains three control A, B and C. The control A and B are in a HGroup, which itself is inside a VGroup with C.
Based on user interaction, I'd like to re-arrange the controls to new layouts. For example all three inside a VGroup. Or for example a layout, which hides A and B and maximizes C in size.
While I could hand-write the code, I'd like to use something like a layout template. A template, which contains placeholders for A, B and C. Give the current view, I'd like to pass the new template and the view should rearrange.
This is not an issue with action scripts it's regarding the privacy and secureness in a flash based website. WIll it cause any harm by giving someone the websites' FLA (just for checking purpose)? Can that person do any harm to the web in future? If yes, what are the possibilities? (online transactions, database info, virus, etc...)
I need to run a webservice from a webpage that is based on swf, the webpage is hosted localy on the same computer with the webservice, and is browsed from remote computers. I wanted to knoe thw proccess that runs on the page, if the page is run localy and localy it runs proccess of the swf or is loaded to the browser amd from there it performs opperations.
I've done my fair bit of HTML coding and work fairly well with CSS but i've never ever done a mouseover in flash.. Now, the website's text, all of it, is simply located on a text.txt file that the flash file reads and incorporates onto the website.. All text and images come from this text file. This is what I want to do.
Click on Enter site, then when it loads, click on the "Selling" tab at the top of the site. On the "My Listings" section is where I want to have the mouseover text and the "Market Analytics" section (which we'll be renaming) is where we'd like the image to actually appear. My question to you is can this be done within this environment and how so?
I can edit JavaScript somewhat, though its been a while.
If you make multiple flash files from the same template and then edit that template, will all those files have those same changes? If not, is there a way to make the same change on multiple files at once? Basically the same idea as linking HTML files to a single CSS file...
I'm using a Coldfusion Dreamweaver template with cfinclude tags. The header contains a flash movie where I'd like to pass 2 variables via a query string to load the correct image and menu button based on the variables in the ActionScript.
pic variable can be 1 - 3 and button variable can be 1 - 7 depending on the each pages body element id. So the logic would be something like this for my flash movie:
if body id =home, then pic=1 and button=1 if body id =about, then pic=current variable and button=2 if body id =page3, then pic=1 variable and button=3
[Code].....
What's the best way to pass these variables depending on the current page body element id?
Is it possible to make the flash content go back to some previous frame when the user clicks on the back button in the browser? Similarly, can the the refresh button be used to refresh to the same frame and not go back to the starting frame?
I have a bit of Flash experience, did a full featured movie player, other stuff in AS3 and got plenty of programming skills in other languages, BUT now I need to create a multi paged website. Quite easy, a few pages, some animations here and there, nothing fancy, got all the graphics.
But time is short on this one, so I need some advice about good practices (pack everything into one main MC or make separate swfs and load them in, etc.), where to begin, or what kind of book should I grab to make the job pretty.
So I have a Flash CS3 based website and I am trying to add in a Flash Gallery.I designed the Flash Gallery as a seperate file and tried to copy the library items into my site file. I got it in, looked ok but when I ran the test it goes crazy and I get 7 actionsript

Jesus Christ - I thought I was really good in flash.Got this template and I can't see S***. WTH - is it supposed to be this difficult to manipulate a template or am I stupid??? Go into project explorer and can't see much AS so how the hwll are they getting the images and text into the flash swf. By the html??? I don't think so.
I have a fieldgoal kicking game that I am making I have the basic game done, but I have some things that I want to add but I dont know were to look to the resources. 1. I'm looking into producing a relatively basic augmented reality web app where a user can print out a pre-made marker, which when held infront of their webcam and viewed through the app will display an object on top which the user can move around and explore. Something very similar to this: [URL] but with a simpler model. I have absolutely no idea where to start and am struggling to find any decent sources online.
