So that the subclass will trace 'Event from document class received' when the 'customEvent' event from the document class is listened by the eventlistener. However, the output is only 'customEvent dispatched', meaning it wasn't heard in the subclass.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Reference A Clicked Object From An Event?

Feb 22, 2009

So ive made the switch from AS2.0 to 3.0, and like many fellow casual flashers, I'm having a bit of a tough time

I understand that below, the first trace works because the mouse event comes from the clicked object, and that the second produces an error because the ENTER_FRAME event is attached to the stage, so e.target is the stage. i realise i can attach the listener to the obj, but i need it on the stage for what im doing

How can i reference the clicked object from run() ?

ActionScript Code:
obj.addEventListener( MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, doMouseDown );
function doMouseDown(e:MouseEvent):void {
stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, run);

Is it possible for the mouse to somehow activate the ROLL_OVER only when the mouse cursor moves over a portion of the overlying movieclip when it's over top the underlying movie clip? In other words, the ROLL_OVER event should be triggered by the mouse cursor as through the overlying movie clip wasn't even there, when the mouse rolls over that area.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Passing Mouse Event Through An Object?

Mar 23, 2010

I have isometric tiles that are put together to form a map. Because the graphics are isometric, and the images themselves are rectangles (with transparent corners) I was wondering if there's way to pass a mouse event through image being clicked if it's being clicked at a point that is transparent onto the object that is layered below it. Using the bitmapData class I already know how to check if the position being clicked is transparent or not, just not the second part.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Run Event Listener Through Dynamic Object Call?

Apr 27, 2009

I have a movie clip being dynamically added to the stage via an AS3 linkage call:

gameOver_mc = new GameOver();
stage.addChild(gameOver_mc);

The movie loads as required.But when the movie has been added I want the user to be able to press spacebar and a function to run.So in the GameOver.as class I wrote the following:

Code:

package
{
import flash.ui.Keyboard;

[code]...

But as soon as the movie clip tries to load I get the error message: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.I would have thought this would work fine. When I trace the statement in the Constructor function is works. Its only when I try to add an event listener that I get the problems. So am I not allowed to add event listeners from a dynamically loaded class?

TimeBlock and TimeHandle are really just classes that draw rectangles. My script (as seen here) will move the last instance of timeHandle added. If I un-comment the other new TimeHandle() section though, it will only apply it to one of them.

Ordinarily I would use event.target, but I have to use the stage as the listener for MOUSE_MOVE and MOUSE_UP. If I was doing this in PHP or even AS2 I would just pass an argument like reposition(clipname).

ActionScript 3.0 :: Disable Click Event When Object Is Hidden?

Nov 8, 2011

I have a game where "targets" hide behind trees and when they pop out from behind, you click them and they are destroyed. For some reason though, when you click the tree they are hiding behind, they still get destroyed. I want them to be safe from the user clicks when hiding. Here is a sample of the code I am using:

Code:

stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClickHandler, false, 0, true);
function onClickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
{

[code]....

I tried adding an else if statement like so:

Code:

else if(bullet.hitTestObject(backtrees)) {
poof.x = bullet.x;
poof.y = bullet.y;

[code]....

but that did nothing as well. As you can see, it is not the click of the user that causes the target to disappear, but the hittestobject that causes it to disappear.
