View 1 RepliesCurrently my flash file will insert an object onto the stage when the user clicks onto the stage. each object will play and loop a sound (the user can select sounds and time before the sound loops for each object) but when I have many sounds playing at once, the sounds will suddenly stop and briefly come back before stopping again. Now I'm guessing there must be a maximum number for sounds simultaneously playing for a flash movie? If so, I'd like to know if there are any workarounds?At present, a sound playing about 2 times a second will be able to repeat roughly 30 times before it sound cuts out.
I added in functionality to stop a sound if it is attempting to trigger again in my play function to which I had a "cannot access a property or method of null object reference" output on the function and the sounds all started doing the same thing again. This happens the same as above, after 30 times playing 2 a second.Unless I've assessed the cause incorrectly, the only workarounds I can think of are to restrict the sound length and restrict the time before a sound loops - but this would ruin some of the aspects of what I wanted to create
how to limit the maximum number you could put in an input textbox? I want the maximum to be 10 and the minimum to be 0.

View 5 RepliesI have an app that has text appended to a TextArea (TA). It automatically scrolls to keep the recent line added in view. Over time, this could be a lot. Do I have to worry about this? Is there an upper limit? And, if so, how can I prune the oldest lines of text?
View 1 RepliesSo, I'm just starting a bigger AS3 project. I'm still learning AS3, transitioning from AS2 and I keep getting caught up on dumb stuff. I'm creating two variables to store a maximum and minimum value for a random number generator. Here's my code.

I believe that my question here is a little hard, or maybe impossible. But here it goes:
How can I, in Flash, get the levels of volume (peak levels) of multiple sound frequencys from an audio file, so that flash would recognize them?
Basically I have this portfolio website with 6 tabs. I am trying to make the slides glide from left to right.each slide is a movie clip and i have put all six movie clips inside one long movie clip with the instants name of content_mc.The problem is my long move clip is way too long in width I have offset the last slide about 5180px of the 0 position.When I test it and click on the tabs nothing happens and I get this error in the output panel"TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference."Here is my action script code.
stop();
//Animate in the profile_mc from bottom to top using the Tween class..//
import fl.transitions.Tween;
[code].....
I am trying to test it. I am loading swf's into movie clip with XML stacking each other vertically. I found out that after movie clip is reached the height of 65000 px the other loaded swfs will not be loaded correctly. They are loaded from the 0 point again overlap previously loaded swfs.

View 1 RepliesI want to control elements and movie clips from deep within an another movie clip
for example I have a button inside of a movie clip So
_root > Symbol 1 > Symbol 2 ( Symbol 2 is the button )
Now I have another MC on the main stage that has an animated MC in it.
So
_root > Symbol 3 > Symbol 4 ( Symbol 4 is the animated item )
So now lets say I want to be able to click ( or rollover ) on the button ( Symbol 2 ) for the animation to go to a specific frame and play
I have this all the time where I am struggling to control stuff deep within from other stuff deep within an MC.
I have a movie clip that allows the user to select certain colors for certain sections of a boat so that they can design their own boat. When the user selects whatever color they want for whatever part of the boats what's happening is they are just loading different movie clips that live on levels 1-6. I can print each level on separate sheets of paper but what I'd like to do is print all of the levels on one sheet of paper.
I was thinking that I could achieve this by duplicating everything I want to print into a MovieClip that lives off the stage and print that but I don't know how I would do this.
i've got a movie where i'm attaching a MC and trying to get a variable from the main movie--i can't seem to pick up a variable from the main movie using 'myVar=_root.myVar' or 'myVar=_level0.myVar' inside the MC--any ideas on what i'm missing here?
View 5 RepliesI have 5 photos which are separate movies that enlarge and then decrease. I have them arranged in a line, slighty overlapping with movies 1 and 5 underneath then 2 and 4 then 3 on the top level. I would like it so that when you roll over each movie it comes to the top level then when you rollout it goes back to it's original position. I can't seem to get the code right however and they keep going back in the wrong position. Here is the code that I have placed on each invisible button over each movie:
on (rollOver){
laugh.swapDepths(1);
laugh.gotoAndPlay(2);
}on (rollOut){
laugh.swapDepths(0);
laugh.gotoAndPlay(8);
}
.I've downloaded a template, which I'm modifying to get working the way I want. You can see how far I've got by going to URL... My question is regarding the 'About' page, where on the right hand side you'll see a pull down menu, with two images on it. The first (says Myrtletown Films) loads and links correctly - The second doesn't link correctly.I'm almost certain its a coding linking issue - As if I were to load the same movieclip as the first one (only telling it to load image2, it loads fine - but then wont link to a separate location).Ok, its starting to get confusing; so here's the FLA. When you open the FLA don't go looking around for bits and pieces. Everything you need will be in the 'action_ content' movie clip. You will find both instances of the images (which are labelled 'Previous_Work_Item_1a' etc)[code]The first image is linked to page '6', the second image (which is failing to load) is linked to page '7'. What's confusing is that Previous_Work_Item2a/b/c are just duplicates of Previous_Work_Item_1a/b/c
View 8 Repliesim using a load targetscript to load external swfs into the main timeline of my movie, however im keeping much of the other layers/mc's loaded, and the external swf is loading over them, the level the blank movie clip is created in doesnt seem to be working propperlly?? whats going wrong?

I'm having a little difficulty getting to grips with the getBounds() Movie Clip function. I assumed the getbounds() method simply got the boundary coordinates for the movie Clip, that one could use to draw a rectangle. This is what I'm trying to do;I'm trying to get a movie clips coordinate bounds, and use the min and max values of x and y to draw rectangle around the object. Simple right? But in my case, I'm getting some unexpected results. I wonder does ther registration point of the object determine the coordinate values? Also are the coordinate values local to the clip instance or global to the stage?

What I want to do is to get the movie to display random images (from a selection) for random amounts of time (subject to minimum and maximum times).

View 1 Replieshow to get a movie clip to loop a specific number of times in Flash? I know how to stop a movie clip from looping by using the this.stop (); command by placing the command in a separate Action Script layer, in a keyframe, inside of the movie clip's timeline. This allows the movie clip to play through once and then stop. But I need for the movie clip to loop more than once, maybe 2 or 3 times, and then go back to the main timeline.
Also, is it possible to place a pause (I'm guessing, maybe by using a timer of some type?) between the loops, so that the movie will pause a couple of seconds before it loops again and then stop? Please note I do not need the movie clip to stop when there's an event like a rollover or anything. I just need it to play a couple of times, pause between plays and then stop and go back to the main timeline.

I've been doing some rapid prototyping for a game I'm thinking of building. one of the main things i want to do is map generation for a tile type map. While generating the map i end up using large amounts of ram. I'm building the map as an array of random integers for my test. When i try to generate maps of a large scale flash gives me the out of memory error:
Error: Error #1000: The system is out of memory.
I've already figured i could write to a file instead, to solve that problem. but does anybody know the actual maximum size? I've tried searching around to no avail.Activity monitor reports that ADL is using around 500MB "real memory" and around 700MB "virtual memory". The System.privateMemory property seems to match the "real memory" value.as a side note i'm developing in OSX Snow Leopard (64) with 8gb ram
EDIT:
Here the example test i am running
var ba:ByteArray = new ByteArray();
for(var i:uint = 0; i<100000000; i++)
{
ba.writeInt(int(Math.random()*100));
[code]....
When i run this script from a browser, stand-alone debugger or AIR i get roughly the same memory usage readouts (which i know vary anyway). What is constant however is the final length of the byte array:
Browser (Firefox): TM: 540413952 FM: 19116032 PM: 562573312 BALENGTH: 13421778
Stand-alone: TM: 540577792 FM: 1810432 PM: 545361920 BALENGTH: 134217728
AIR (2.6): TM: 5410816 FM: 1159168 PM: 551464960 BALENGTH: 134217728
My testing methods might not be perfect, though i dont know how to do deeper profiling.
I'm making an action game and I'd like to know what should be the maximum size of the stage (mine is 660 x 500).Also I'd like to know how big a game-sprite should be. Currently my biggest sprites have a size of 128 x 128 and I read somewhere on the internet that you should not make it bigger because of performance issues. If you want to make e.g. big explosions with shockwaves even 128 x 128 does not look very big. What's the maximum size I can definitely use for sprites?
