I want to have a custom class tempSelection with a Dictionary as a public accessable property of that class. If I use this code, the compiler tells me:

Which translates to:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash OOP - Add Own Custom Property To The Flash.display.Bitmap Using A Public Static Method?

Jan 3, 2011

Is it possible to add my own custom property to the flash.display.Bitmap using a public static method? I'm trying to write a bitmap utility that does something to a bitmap, and stores a Number property onto it afterwards.

[Code]....

I'm still learning AS3.0 OOP, I think that this can't be done with this method. I think I have to make a new Class that extends 'Bitmap', add the prop there, and then in the Main.as make a new instance of that class, point to the target Bitmap, and run the method in the extended 'Bitmap' class (?).

ActionScript 3.0 :: Specify A Custom Event In An Instance?

I have a button which is an instance of a "button1" class. The button is instantiated by an instance of the"introScreen" class which is instantiated by the "screenHandler"class. I'm not sure how to attack getting an instance(the "button1" instance ) to dispatch an event heard by its grand parent(the "screenHandler"instance). My main confusion is getting an instance to transmit a specific event like the name of the screen to switch to. Can I specify a custom event in an instance?

Actionscript 3 :: Prevent Flash From Blurring An Image After Zooming With The `z` Property?

Sep 1, 2011

I'm currently testing various ways to zoom images (or rather, whole DisplayList hierarchies). Using scaleX and scaleY works quite well, but when I use the z property to zoom the image (by placing it further away) the image gets blurred when returning to z=0. The image is put in a Sprite ("groundLayer") and that Sprite itself is put in another Sprite ("zoomLayer"). Whenever I'm zooming I'm manipulating properties of the "zoomLayer" only. This image was taken right after returning scaleX and scaleY back to 1.0: This image was taken right after returning z back to 0.0:

I've tried searching for information about this phenomena but couldn't really find anything useful. Can anyone explain what's happening there? Why is Flash blurring the image after manipulating the zproperty? Is there a way to prevent that (well, other than obviously leaving z alone)?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Access A Class Instance Property?

Jan 15, 2010

I have a problem with the piece of code that's been annoying me for a week. It should be very simple but all my attempts at a solution somehow seem to get thwarted by an invisible hand that wants me to fail.Here is the scenario: I am trying to create an image strip consisting of image thumbnails. When one mousovers each image it should print its information (say a name) in a textfield.I created an image container class that loads the images through a url request, then an image strip class that receives an array with image names and urls and displays them in a row. So far so good.

However when it comes to showing the info I have no clue how to address which image is being pointed at. I put a variable called imageIndex inside my imageContainer object, then put all the created containers in imageStrip's for-loop inside an array called mgContainerArray. I created a for loop in my fla that goes through this array and assigns all those containers a mouseover event listener. What I'm stumped with is that there is no way I can access the imageIndex variable from my function to tell the code which image is currently being mouseovered. It keeps giving me an error.Here is the code:

Code:
for(var i:Number=0; i<myImageStrip.imgContainerArray.length;i++){
myImageStrip.imgContainerArray[i].addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,

ActionScript 3.0 :: Defining A Property Without The Instance Being In The Movie?

Dec 16, 2009

I'm a bit on the novice side of AS3 and am struggling away. I have one major issue which I cannot fathom.I have two swf's which I am loading into a flip book. They will both on the stage at the same time one on each side of the book. I want one to control the other. The issue is when I try to set up functions in one to control objects in the other I get and error about undefined properties. I assume this is because the objects I am referencing are not in the movie where the function lies. And vice versa, when I set up the functions in the movies when the objects are I get an error as the buttons are not defined as they are in the other swf.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loader Instance With Custom Properties?

Oct 14, 2009

Through searching the various forums I have found that Loaders are not dynamic and hence you can not apply custom properties to each instance of them. I miss the old way (as2 way of attachingMovieClip) that you load dynamic content, at least you can apply custom properties, and you can always reference them for each object.What I'm trying to do is load a group of Images via XML. Each one of those images have a set of information that is associated with them (name, description, etc). I have the images loading in and positioning just fine, however when trying to have a tooltip show the name on Mouse Over, I'm not able to achieve this.

In short. I want to be able to store information for each item so that I can access it. Is there a way to do this in AS3 with a Loader or is there another route I can go? If I do this with Arrays, how do I store the Index of the specific item so I can use that in reference to the position in each array?** Should I use getChildIndex() in the function for the Event Listener to reference the data stored in the arrays for each item? If so, how do I do so? ***

PHP Code:
num = 0;var titleArray:new Array();function createImage(){ var thumb:Loader = new Loader; thumb.load(new URLRequest(url);

Now I have created a custom class for a movieclip in library and instantiated it in the document class (also a public instance).

I need to access the component instances in the custom class. How to do this ?

Also, Is it a good practice to use ENTER_FRAME event frequently ? because if I can't access the above components instances in the custom class then I will be left with no choice but to use ENTER_FRAME event in the document class every time I need to change some value in the components...
