Jan 31, 2009I am looking to convert a 2007 MS Excel file into a XML output for my AS3 project. I have tried to save as XML data and it errors stating that XML mapping is required. I also have an option to save as 2003 XML worksheet, which works but it provides its own tags and I cant get the order right. I have also attempted to add VB code to the macro screen, but I am lost in the MS world. I just need a clean consistent XML output, no formulas just cell info.

Oct 6, 2009I just upgraded to Flash Builder 4 (beta 2) from Flex Builder 3 which I have been using since it came out. Problem: All the projects that were in my workspace from Flex Builder 3 did not carry over into Flash Builder 4 (e.g. in the "Flex Navigator" view if FB3). Flash Builder 4 now uses the .FXP format to manage projects, but Flex Builder 3 did not. Is there an easy way to get all my projects back into Flash Builder 4?

Dec 19, 2011I was trying to convert global coordinates to local coordinates of a UIComplenent in my flex project using below code using below code
var gp:Point = new Point(e.stageX,e.stageY); //global point
var lp:Point = uic.globalToLocal(gp); //local point
uic is UIComponent in which I have subclass of Sprite for drawing something I have set the sprite's mouseEnabled and mouseChildren to false to not interrupt the mouse event. above code is within uic's mousemove event where I was tracing the gp and lp gp was giving correct value and suprisingly lp was giving negetive values. when I move the move to the top left corner of uic i expect lp to be 0,0 but it is giving the -width of of uic. I broke my head for hours and ended up finding an alternate by using offsets. Infact my original code was much simpler like this which was same issue

I am not sure what exactly is causing this problem. the workaround had lot of issues and it creating a mess in my rest of the algorithms.Just now I found even more interesting thing (which is actually weird). for some reason I went and create a new lp2
var lp2:Point = new Point(e.localX,e.localY);
now surprisingly it was giving correct values as expected and I went back and changed the code as
var gp:Point = new Point(e.stageX,e.stageY); //global point
var lp:Point = uic.globalToLocal(gp); //local point
var lp2:Point = new Point(e.localX,e.localY);
var lp2:Point = uic.globalToLocal(gp);
now it is expected to have all the lp, lp2 and lp3 variables to be same but weiredly lp two is giving wrong value and lp2 and lp3 were giving correct. I am suspecting using the variable lp has something to do. I am not sure about that but above proves it so right now I am using lp2.

Installed Created a multi-modular webapp project using flexmojo:

with following options

Parent pom has swc, swf, war as modules.
Dependency is war->swf->swc.
With parent artifactId of swf, swc, war set to swf, swc, test respectively.On executing mvn on test folder(for that matter clean or anything) I get this following error.

Looks like its trying to download the project from maven's central repository instead of building it.

Jan 29, 2009I have a "Loader.exe" that loads a bunch of external swfs. Ideally, I would've liked to be able to give my client just 1 exe, so that they wouldn't have to deal with multiple files/directories etc. However; each of the external swfs have audio, and in some cases video, which makes trying to combine everything into 1 .fla prohibitive because the file size of that .fla shoots through the roof. Even just trying to navigate through graphics to edit animation becomes a sloooow process.
So, I was trying to come up with ways to bundle/package my Loader.exe as well as the external swfs into a single file (almost like a .zip file). I know there are 3rd party programs out there (Flash Jugglor) that can do this... but I was hoping there may be some built-in feature. So, I thought using a Flash Project (.flp) might be able to accomplish something similar, but I could only find the following couple of sentences about FLPs:
"Create a new Flash Project file (*.flp). Use Flash Project files to group related files (*.fla, *.as, *.jsfl, and media files), set up publish settings for the group, and implement version control options."

Jan 24, 2011I have a user with a brand new image including Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and the Adobe CS5. When creating a project in Flash CS5 and then trying to view it in Safari & Firefox the plug-in crashes which then brings down the browser with it.I went and installed Flash CS3 (as this is what he is used to using) and the problem still persists.

Apr 7, 2009I'm new to flash mx 2004 and I'm having a problem publishing and playing my finished project. Every time I try to play or publish the project I get a 'The Flash program is out of memory. Please increase virtual memory on your PC' message. I was originally working on a 1 gig RAM PC and thought this was the problem. I've since borrowed a 2 GIG RAM PC which allowed me to do a little bit more work before I got the same problem. I then got a 4 GIG PC and was able to finish the project but if I try to play it or publish it the program crashes. Any Ideas. This is a college project which I need to publish as a windows exe file and I can't do it. I don't know what's wrong. The project is about 280 meg in size. I tried to 'save and compact' but it still crashes. I also tried to debug the flash project and it crashed again. I'm baffled as I think a 4 GIG PC should be ample and I no longer think that this is entirely a RAM problem anyway.

Dec 3, 2009I will be doing a band's website to promote their music, and the idea is to make a 3D render of a circa 1960's Ed Sullivan Theater stage, where the Beatles had their legendary Television performance.
The difference is that it would be slightly modernized for the 2000's... so there would be a large screen at the back ala U2.This is the Ed Sullivan Theater Stage when the Beatles performed on it:
Instead of the beatles, there would be 2D cartoonish cardboard cutouts of the band I am doing the website for. (The idea is that the cutouts are stand ins for the actual band)In flash, clicking on a navigation link would perform a camera weave through the cardboard cutouts to a jumbo-tron type of television screen at the back of the stage, where relevant information would be displayed.
The render doesn't have to be photo realistic. the band has a running cartoonish theme going on 3 of their album covers. I would say something akin to how the Gorrilas videos look would be appropriate. I have a friend that is a cartoonist that will be a consultant on this, and do the drawings of the band members.
Again, it's just the stage that needs to truly be in 3D, as the band members will be 2 dimensional. The band members will be carboard cut-outs on the stage. They're placement on the Sullivan Theater stage will be in 3D, though.I don't have much money set aside for the development, so I need a cheaper solution than using Maya or whatever the big boys use to render 3D models.
Stop Flash Builder 4 Actionscript Project Launching Flash IDE?
Sep 15, 2010I am trying to create an Actionscript project in Flash Builder 4. However when I debug or run it always runs in the Flash IDE. I want it to run in the standalone flash debugger without the Flash IDE! This is driving me crazy. I'm on Mac if that makes a difference.

Sep 25, 2009I am having trouble transforming pure as3 projects written in flash into Flash builder projects.
I have a series of simple tutorials covering basic elements of actionscript 3. These were written in flash using the document class.
I would now like to switch over from using Flash to using Flash Builder.
Is there any way to import each of these working as3 files into new FB projects?
When I try to import using either "import > other > existing projects" or "import > Flash Builder Project" or "import > General > File system" I am not able to complete my import because (obviously) I am not importing a valid Eclipse project.
Is there no way to load a directory of AS3 into FB, set one of the classes as the "default application" and have FB build a new project around it?
I could create a new project in FB and then move the assets in manually, but I have over a hundred of these! It would be nice to be able to move from one environment to the other without difficulty.
