I have a custom component Comp that gets its position changed as a result of interactions with other components, etc. I check for changes in its position by constantly checking its position at fixed intervals. I'm looking for a better solution (maybe an event-based solution) to monitor its position so I don't have to check constantly myself.

Is it a easy way to detect most used color from one jpg? I worked out a way to do this, however it seems like Flash cant handle large "for-loop" and it lead to calling abandon script during test movie...
I tired this:
1) Dynamic load in a image
2) Use Bitmapdata to register all pixel data into a array (call it A)
3) Convert A into Array B which contain no duplication of value
4) Run through Array A and adding count to see which color appear more than once or so, record it all to an Array C
5) Find out the Maximum number from Array C to determine which is the common used color from the image.
All the above did actually work in the code. My problem is, damn flash seems to handle well with image like 10*10 pixels (100 steps I suppose), swap it with 50*50 will call murder! Anyone come across issue with large "for-loop" and what is the best way to get around this?

I'd like to provide alternate content for my site (a basic blog for example) in case the user does not have flash/does not want to see the flash site. Is this possible? I'd like to do it without creating a splash page that requires input.I would also like this to work for a mobile device like the ipad. I know ipads/iphones cant read flash files, so is there a way to detect that it is a mobile device and route the user to the alternate content?

Ideally, I would like to auto-detect the current environment so I know where to look for the data to be loaded, either from the filesystem or from a URL. As of right now I have the content working, as well as the automatically moving text. What i'm trying to do now is repeat the text as soon as it goes off screen, so it will be constantly scrolling. I created a auto scroller which works fine but I would like to change it so that I can reuse it without changing different values each time. The movie consist of a scrollmc and a maskmc (just a rectangle)
So if I write,
right = 150;
150 being the _x position of maskmc
why wouldn't it work if I change it to
right = maskmc._x;
I have a text document which is several pages long and will use scrolling capabilities. This text document will be contained in an external swf. There will be 6 buttons on the main timeline which will all load the external swf with the text document but I would like the text to autoscroll to a specific postion/part of document that relates to that topic/button. Also, i would like the scrollbar to move in relation to position/part of document in case the user stays in the external swf and reads and scrolls through the document. Is this possible? I have searched for a tutorial on this but have found nothing. I have tried different things but nothing has worked.

I am replacing the mouse pointer with a custom graphic in an .swf that takes up part of a web page (.swf stage is about 350px wide, total layout is about 1000px). My code is all working fine, except that, if you move the mouse fairly quickly -- as you might do to get from a point on the .swf to the opposite side of a large monitor -- the .swf loses track of the mouse, and thinks that the ._xmouse/._ymouse values are still the same as the last point that that Flash saw the mouse, which is usually somewhere in the middle of the stage, thus "orphaning" the custom cursor. If I have a setInterval or something tracing the mouse position, the .swf still thinks that the mouse is sitting on top of it, even though the cursor is actually far away somewhere else. hitTest also still returns true as though the mouse was there (as you might expect, given that it's based on _xmouse/_ymouse).
The workaround/hack I have going now is that, once the pointer switches over to the custom cursor, it starts a setInterval, and then if the mouse appears not to move for a few seconds, it reverts back to the default cursor (i.e., Mouse.show). Obviously, this is not optimal, because that means that the custom cursor disappears if you don't move the mouse for a second or two, and it doesn't really solve the problem anyway because it still looks like the custom cursor gets stuck for a second when you move too fast.

I'm making an interactive film. At certain points within the film, the viewer has the ability to select from a few options that will direct them to an external video clip (they are flashback scenes). The main story pauses when the user selects a flashback scene and I'm clear on how to achieve this.
However, my issue is that once the flashback scene ends and the external video closes, I'm not sure how the main story will resume. Is it possible for it to auto-play (resume) in some way? My last resort would be to have the viewer select a play button - this is only because I do not want a break in the narrative and want to limit the amount of clicks the viewer has to make.
We'd like to have an app autorun when our clients put in our info CD. Is it possible to do this using Adobe AIR... We were thinking of using the Flash Projector cause it compiles to an .exe which is easily launched, but there's no way to get rid of the ugly window chrome is there?

I have two .fla files (preloader.fla and portfolio.fla) which I both published as .swc and loaded them into my ActionScript project in FB4 (build path). When I hit debug, FB4 automatically generates a .SWF in bin-debug folder called Preloader.swf, but in my Preloader.as I have

and this Portfolio.swf isn't being generated by itself. Now the real question; how can I tell FB4 to automatically create both .SWF files for me? Or isn't that possible,
I have a datagrid. How can I put the focus on a particular row (ie row #5) of a datagrid via actionscript? I'm partially there, but not quite:

View 2 RepliesI'm using Flex 4. Have PHP backend and mysql database with one table consisting of multiple rows. I take the raw data from the result event and decode it using JSON. I then dump the data into an ArrayCollection that I use as my datagrid's data provider.
My question is how can I tell when someone inserts a new row into the mysql table so that I can automatically refresh my ArrayCollection, thus seamlessly updating my datagrid one element at a time? Right now, it's just a one time call and the connection is closed. If someone inserts a new row into the database my program doesn't recognize, unless I restart it. I'd like to auto-update the AC whenever a single new row is inserted into the mysql database. Is there a way I can "listen" for this change?

Not sure if I am doing this the best way but I want to create a mobile app that has a home menu screen much like the facebook iphone application(with out all the fancy button moves etc). The FB app has a 3X3 set of buttons that allow you to access things like news feed or friends.In order to keep my layout consistent across different device screens I was trying to user the TileGroup with an image as a button for each tile.but while I can specify the tilegroup to use 100% width and height and set the number of rows and columns to 3. It does not appear to autosize the height of the rows and columns to fit the screen. and it won't let me specify the with/height as a percentage.
