Flex :: Importing A Subversion Repository?
Sep 22, 2011
I'm having problems: I create a new repository in Subclipse that points to a URL. When I check out the code and it creates a Flex Builder project, I am getting errors that relate to issues with the .actionscriptProperties and .flexProperties files. So, I was told to just create a new FB project and point the src folder to where SVN is on my machine.
I'm guessing that until I do something like import my repository....it's nowhere on my machine. But when I imported it, it appeared to try and take every existing FB project I had and add it to SVN. That's not what I want. How do I do this right? What am I missing?

I recently started working in FDT (used to work with FlashDevelop) and I encountered a very strange problem. When I make a new project everything is fine, I can code without problem in as3 and also using the flixel engine is no problem. However, as soon as I checkout a project from subversion, the code assist breaks. The code still works, the program executes without errors. But instead of giving me a few option when I type "FlxG." it just gives me a lot of options regarding 'metadata'. I have looked at a lot of places but I can not find the answer anywhere.

I have been working on a charting flex document listing repository statistics for work and it can be seen here -http [url]...orialJorum.swf Unfortunately,my hard drive died last week and the MXML source files were wiped(I know I should have backed it up). As I cant really afford paying $80 to decompile to get the MXML script, I wondered if anyone could do it for me as I put many hours into that piece of work. I have tried using the demo version of SWF Decompiler and Trillix but unfortunately they only give you the component code and not the <script/>

I recently I followed this great guide to integrate the subversion revision into exe/dll files generated from my c++/c# visual studio projects. Now I can easily right-click on an exe-file to find which revision was used to build the binary (see image below). I love this feature.
Is this possible to do the same in flash/flex when building air/stand-alone applications? I would like to tag both exe file and dlls.
Update with solution: Although the ANT-based solutions provided here aren't as smooth as the one where the svn info is burnt into .exe/.dll files (in my opinion), it has solved my problem and is now implemented in our productions. My setup is based both on Kevin's and frankhermes's answeres but uses SubMCRev.exe instead of svn.exe or jar files. In our implementation we dump the svn revision to the logfile at startup. The output from the SVN target below looks like this: Built with SVN Revision: 1.0.0.1181 (local modifications found)

I am having a lot of trouble while syncing my Flash Builder Actionscript project with Subversion. I have read that the output folders bin, bin-debug and html-template should not be checked in to the repository. The project bin folder contains a lot of XML files and assets that other project members needs to access. The problem is that Flash builder ignores it.
Is there a way of setting up Flash Builder to override the ignored bin folder? If not, what other approach should I consider? Different folder structures?
/src (commited)
/bin (ignored)
/swc (commited)
I would really like to override the default "DO NOT COMMIT YOUR DEPLOY FOLDER" setting. Bounty it is.

This is giving me major headaches! I'm having trouble even describing the problem in words. Basically, I want to be able to manage a core library (coreLib) of Actionscript classes with the following requirements: latest version is checked out when a new project starts. a dev can make changes to the coreLib and then commit them back into the repo as project is written (maybe bug-fixes, added features, etc.) the project contains a 'snapshot' of the coreLib so that, if returned to months later, it (as automatically as possible) has a copy of the coreLib that has guaranteed compatibility with the project.
I tried using externals but this can break compatibility going backwards. I'm currently exporting the coreLib into the project and its VC'd along with the project. I can't figure out how to get the changes back into the repo though, without just copying over the top and losing history.

I use CollabNet's Subversion Edge to manage a repository for a PHP/ActionScript based project I am building in the Eclipse IDE. In my project's root folder, Eclipse included several configuration files that aren't directly related to the project. How can I set up my repository to ignore these files/folders via CollabNet? Would it be through the "Repository Access Rules"?

Have recently started to use Subversion to version control projects. Am a bit unsure how best to structure the storage of projects, internal libraries and 3rd party libraries (eg. greensock).

I am importing a picture in flash and i found out that there is a difference between importing to the stage, and importing to the library... [URL] I've placed both picture close of each other and if you look closely, you'll notice that one of them is losing some resolution. Both picture come from the same file, a png. The picture imported to the stage is sharper than the one imported to the library. is there a way to import that picture to the library without losing any resolution?

I've built a form in Flex. When I run the flex project, I get a html file with some js, css and swf files (NOT A SINGLE FILE), swz files. When I run the main swf file alone, many things are working perfectly except at places where it needs to send a HTTPService request. When I use the html file, all works fine.
Now I want to do the following.Import this form made in flex into a flash site (actionscript 3)This form has various ViewStacks, where the user will be travelling through these. I want to reload the form back to its initial stage when the user wants to fill the fields again. Can there be any request sent to the Flash Site from this FORM, regarding the form submission success Can I compile the Flex Project to one single swf file, so that I can use this swf file without any Browser? Can I convert the webpage application Flex Project to an Adobe AIR application [URL]..

I'm currently trying to move from flash CS4 to flex 3. When I create an AS class and want to use a component in CS4 i import a component: import fl.controls.Button; and make sure that the button component is in the library of the .fla file which calls the AS class. Now I'm trying to do something similar in flex 3. I can import the component in AS: but when i try to add it to the display it doesn't exist. Is this because it's not in the library? It doesn't throw an error, but doesn't get added to the display. Is there a walk-though about adding a component from within AS3 in flex 3?

I'm trying to get a movie clip class from Flash into Flex Builder 3 (movie clip and external .as file). I used the Flex Components Kit for Flash cs3 and exported the swc into Flex, but was unable to instantiate the class because it wasn't a valid IUI component? So I took all the class code and moved it into the first frame of my movie clip. This allowed me to instantiate the class fine, but it tells me that all of the functions are null references.

I am facing a really weird issue while trying to use an "swc" file imported from Flash CS5, that I am trying to use in Flex Builder 3 (by converting symbol to "Flex Component"). The errors are coming in files which are not even remotely related to the "swc" file that i am importing. Now, I know that the automation stuff has come as a part of FB4, but I don't really have an option to migrate to FB4.I have tried to change the flex sdk settings in Flash CS5 (steps given below), but that has not helped.Edit-->Preferences-->Actionscript-->"Actionscript 3.0 Settings"-->"Flex SDK Path" (pointing this to flex3.5 sdk instead of Flex4.0 sdk)I feel that the issue is most probably a compatibility issue b/w Flex 3 and Flex 4, but have not been able to find a workaround for the same.[code]

I'm using Flex builder 3 for my main application (web-based), and I need to load multiple swf files built in flash cs4 (AS3) at different times. The flash swfs import assets from a separate flash swf used as a shared library. I'm using 1 swf loader in flex to keep 1 flash swf loaded at a time.Loading the first swf works fine, but loading subsequent swfs generates an error in importing from the shared library swf.
Here's an example of an error:
"ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable sharedApps is not defined."

I got a XFL file, its library files and AS files in a directory.I would like to use Flash Builder 4(FB) for editing AS files, running the compiled SWF and profiling. When I created a New->ActionScript project in FB, I could edit the AS files but didn't know how to link the XFL file and run them. When I created a New->Flash Professional Project, I was prompted for a XFL file, and although the chosen XFL file and the AS files are in a same directory, the AS files are not automatically included in the project. I couldn't find a way to add exiting files in the project either.

I spent the day making a really neat (my opinion only) animated button that I want to use as a common component on a web site I am working on. The button is isolated in its own FLA and SWF file(s). The plan was to import the common button, add a text label, and position it appropriately on the page. Then move on to the next button or whatever. That's the plan; now here's the problem: I'm completely at a loss as to how to go about doing it. I've tried to follow a couple of tutorials, but, I keep getting lost.

I've always been able to import dwg/dwx files into Illustrator, edit out layers I dont need, export to swf, and import into Flash MX. I just got some new CAD files that wont open in Illustrator and am kinda stuck without a solution. Purchasing new software is no big deal I just want to be sure that it will open these new files and be able to export to Flash in a usable format.

Is it possible to import a swf file into a Flash file with a transparent background so you can still see the main movie underneath? Also, I would only want the swf file to play on a certian number of frames. By the way I have the original flash file of the swf I want to import.

I've masked out the backgrounds around some photos (of people) in Photoshop, and I'm importing them into Flash CS3 (Mac). When I import them in, they appear to have a color shift...they look lighter, more washed out than they did in Photoshop. My color space in Photoshop is sRGB, and I've tried importing the images as PSD and as PNG files, but no difference.

I have been searching on this and from what I have read in some posts I found through google it seems that it is possible to import an .mp4 file to flash.... I am unable to do this so far and wondering if it is in fact possible to do this.. if so, does anyone know of any decent .avi to .mp4 conversion software that will allow the mp4 to be imported to flash as the ones I have tried so far are not allowing the mp4 to be imported.

I'm importing a swf file with on/off buttons into Captivate, and the sound is not playing. I'm not sure if this is a Flash issue or a Captivate issue. I have posted this same question on the Captivate forum and have not received a response. The swf file seems to be playing fine, however, when I import it into Captivate the sound will not play anymore.

I have a .flv file which I would like to import into my stage. I use the import video option, select the file location, select progressive download from webserver and select the skin. However when I export my swf, the video doesn't appear. I have been successful in the past doing this but for some reason it doesn't appear. I have looked at the publish settings and compared files and everything seems to be ok.
